I'm not sure The Office will recover. I watch it because I want to know what happens, but I wouldn't go for it now as a new viewer. I don't know how long Michael Scott humor can be dragged out.

Michael is pretty unbelievable these days. I like Carell, but he plays him way too over the top sometimes.

It really can't be repeated enough:
Thank God that Mike Mussina spurned Dan Duquette and the Sox for the Bronx, and that we had to 'settle' for Manny. Remember how much the media mocked the Sox FO for that at the time? I recall that even Gammons (who was in his own McCarver-esque period of Jeter/Yankee worship at the time) pushed that angle during that offseason.

I haven't looked (because I avoid most of Boston.com because it really, really sucks), but do they offer RSS feeds for specific sections/columnists/bloggers/whatever?

Chad: The move to boston.com is a great thing for you and TATB -- and long overdue, considering that (a) newspapers are trying hard to pump up their websites, and (b) they had you sitting right there in the building all that time. But I'll miss the relatively tight community of commenters you've had on this site. On boston.com, I have to think that the average post will draw hundreds of comments, many of them along the lines of "Sox RAWK!" or "Francoma SUCKS!"
But things change, life goes on, and you really deserve to have a bigger platform. Indeed, boston.com is lucky to have you.
See you in the funny papers, kid!

Thanks, John, I really appreciate that. As it turns out, I do have complete control over the comments at Boston.com, so hopefully it won't change terribly. The quality of the comments here has been one of the most rewarding aspects of doing this, and I hope it doesn't get dumbed down too much.

Chad, Congrats on the move to Boston.com! You can only read so many columns from Carl Everett's " best friend." Foresight tells using the actual quote won't get this comment into " print." Just can't imagine the Falcons will spend that No. 4 overall pick on BC quarterback Matt Ryan. They've already had Joey Harrington once."
" Anyways, since I know how people like to be corrected; The reason you can't imagine the Falcons taking Matt Ryan 4th is because they have the THRIRD pick in the upcoming draft( insert a Mel Jr. verbal beatdown as punishment).

Jed may not be an everyday SS, but than again, how many legit SS's exist in MLB? I know one thing though, I forget the publication that tracks player "wins" (or whatever), but Jed today "won" the game. And, damn, he hasn't even been in the league for a week.
Jed > Lugo
Ellsbury > Coco

Prediction: If the Bruins stomp the French tonight they're going to the Cup.

Would Jed be any worse a shortstop than, oh, David Eckstein? Just asking. Not that I'm really hot to dump Lugo. He's not that bad, really; it's just that damn contract. And the Sox are on the hook for that, whether he plays for Boston or the Nippon Ham Fighters.
Say, can we keep the Rangers around for a while, as our very own Washington Generals? Those Yankee games are stressful; this is fun.

The kids are getting it done, two come from behind wins in the last two games and the kids are right in the middle of them. Absolutely loving it.

Interesting thought I just had -- Ortiz' hits, when they have come lately, have been when you needed them the most. And that is why I'm feeling a lot better about him.
6) If you're saying that he'll be like Jeter defensively, does that mean he'll undeservingly win 3 Gold Gloves, mostly all hinging on a play that basically wasn't even the play of the game, let alone the year?(I will argue until I'm blue in the face that Pokey Reese's catch earlier in the game was miles better than Jeter's running catch because he didn't want A-Rod to take his glory). I think Jed will do fine and I can't argue with what he's done so far.
And Manny Ramirez? He's just quite simply the man. 4 homeruns away from 500. I really hope if he is to hit them, have it happen when he's at home. And I kind of am intrigued at the way he's playing. He's like a kid again and combining that with the way Youk and Pedroia have been playing, I vote that the Red Sox players should all train down in Arizona next offseason because clearly they're doing something right there.

Chad:
When I saw the reference to Pickering, I thought you were reaching into your "obscure" bag of tricks and invoking the name of this guy:

It's not every day a former Black Bear hoop player (did he also play football at UM?) turns into an NFL player -- and grabs a single pass for the Pats in a storied career. I'm so ancient I saw him play for Maine against a Rick Pitino-coached BU team. From what I remember, he was a pretty good basketball player.

It's about time someone told it like it is about Matt Ryan. How exactly does a guy who throws so many INTs wind up as a first-round draft choice? And how exactly does a GM and coach go out and proclaim that they wasted a first-round pick on that notable power, Boston College? Please. Oh, and Todd McShay, it's not some sort of credit to Ryan that he didn't have NFL receivers. He was playing COLLEGE football, and his WRs were recruited by other colleges. Thus, the INTs are on him, period.

The sad truth (and I'm a BC alum) is that Ryan will not be a difference maker in his rookie year like Marino, Elway or even Rothlisberger. He'll take a few years to mature into an NFL quarterback, if he ever does. So do the Falcons spend such a high draft pick on a skill position that MAY develop into a good QB in a couple of years? The difference maker will be more of what's in his head and less of what's in his arm

I didn't know Elway and Rothisburger were difference makers their first year, and Ryan may not be either, but he sure as hell looks to be a very good pro, at least.
