Just to let you know, you weren't the last remaining fan of Snyder in New England. I thought he was a good option out of the bullpen (for what he was) and really hoped he would get a chance to develop his game. Too bad he became a victim of the numbers crunch... you just know he is gonna pop up on Tampa or some other team and just destroy us later this season.

Chad, thanks for the link to the Guides article. I had never been able to find any substantial information on them and having grown up in southeastern NH in the 80's I had indeed heard of them. Good stuff. Only wish I had seen them play.
Is it just me, or is there a resemblance between the seats at The Ball Park and Hadlock?

Completely agree with you about Snyder. Sorry to see him go because he seemed to be one of those guys who just did what he was asked to do as best as he could.
As for the early season slide, as Warner said on WEEI, hey, we are 2-0 in the states!

Chad, congratulations on (maybe) your 500th. I've been reading you regularly for about a year, and I have cited your work (and linked to it) on Yahoo's Sports Filter. I've also heard one or two of your interviews on the local sprots talk radio (WGAM) here in Nashua, NH. One comment is in order about today's effort. Why does the name "Victor Hobson" sound like that of a doctor or a shady businessman in a soap opera? I have no real reason for it, it just sounds that way.

a long time since I've read the name Jordan Korbitz...Wonder if Old Orchard Beach has paid off The Ball Park yet.

Maybe it reminds you of Victor Newman, the business tycoon on the Young and the Restless (at least he was the last time I saw it, when Reagan was still Prez, or maybe Bush 41).

"I'm not one of those contrarian dopes who picked the Blue Jays to win the AL East"
Hey! I resemble that remark, although I'm not a contrarian. I just think they're a damn good team. If I had one bitch about them it would be that they are too much like the Yanks in how they disregard defense.
Could not agree more with you about Snyder, although I do think Tavarez is better, more useful. But what exactly did Snyder do so poorly that Boston fans, for the most part, are celebrating his exit? I bet he is picked up fast by another team.

Chad, nice job with the Larry Wolfe card.
I was unimpressed with the Red Sox pregame celebration today. I think it was too over the top. What the heck is up with the clip of DHL delivering the rings and the police escort bringing them into Fenway. C'mon! Give me a break with the free advertising for DHL.
Another complaint - the Boston Pops playing too loud, so we couldn't hear the fan cheers for the players well enough. Why ruin a pristine and pure moment. I was counting on the emotional moment of the fans cheering Doug Mirabelli's triumphant return to Fenway. I didn't think the Pops were necessary.
I didn't like the Bill Buckner first pitch. Was it me or was it a bit uncomfortable to watch?
When did Johnny Pesky become the team mascot? Don't we already have Wally? Seriously, I think it is nice they keep him so involved with the team.
I'm glad the fans booed that pooch Edgar Renteria. He's probably my least favorite ex Red Sox player. Besides his 30 errors and lack of clutch hitting in 2005, I also remember him dogging it down the line on several groundballs/double plays.
Nice win today. Two good outings in a row for Dice K.

I feel bad about Snyder leaving, but I do think he's the right choice.
I think Corey will do a better job of throwing strikes consistently, and Aardsma's ceiling is much higher. And then, even the Sox aren't willing to swallow Julian's salary over Snyder's.

Larry Wolfe was supposedly a gin rummy pigeon of Yastrzemski's for long plane flights. He was also born 5 days after I was.

I love the phrase "gin rummy pigeon." That's the kind of info I expect out of you guys.

If we're going to talk about the shortcomings of the ring ceremony and opening day at Fenway, can we PLEASE throw some hate in the general direction of "Sweet Caroline"? Not so much at Neil himself (the Bedazzled Sox satin jacket over the black pants and turtleneck was a nice touch), but Tom Werner and Wally dancing behind a karaoke-esque video, played in split screen? And THEN we find out Mr. Diamond is going to visit Fenway in person this summer? Hide your daughters, unless you want a dirty old man writing songs about them.

I know it's baseball season, but would you be surprised if Takeo Spikes ended up a Patriot?

Actually, I would. I remember someone asked Mike Reiss about it after Spikes got released by the Eagles, and he said he thought Belichick was lukewarm at best on him. He's not the player he was before the injuries. Of course, I wouldn't mind them taking a flyer, though, provided the price is right. The more candidates they have at linebacker, the better.

How about if the Pats get a young MLB who is on the right side of 30? Spikes is 31, with a lot of miles on him.

The Office was blah. Pam didn't look too scrumptious either.

Agreed. It was funny, but not the same show it was in Season 2 or 3. And Pam doesn't seem like the same character.
