I voted early this morning and I voted Republican because I believe they best represent my ideas in government. I have not heard one program or idea from Democrats besides I'm not George Bush. Bush will be out of office in 2008, yet, this Congress can pass legislation now that will effect all our lives.
I also voted against Viriginia Amendment for Marriage which in effect prohibits all same sex unions. That is just one issue and I'm not a one issue person. Also, before you say but Republican...well the latest pension reform allows the owner to decide who should be the beneficiary which benefits gays and that was passed by Republicans.
One other thing if we pull out of Iraq it only demonstrates weakness that will embolden the terrorist. Look what happen to Somilia. After we pulled out they attacked our diplomatic corp in Africa, in Yemen our military, and finally our financial sector in New York. I for one rather fight on their soil than ours.
Response from Chad:
Masshole, thanks for stopping by and commenting. I suspect a lot of people are going to disagree with you, but you know what? This line, "I voted Republican because I believe they best represent my ideas in government," says it all. You voted how you see fit, and that is exactly what a democracy is. Ours, flawed as it is, is the only one we've got.
Now, if anyone here disagrees with DC Masshole, enough to make you want to start a flame war here in my comments section, please go to his website, where his email is posted and send him a message. I'm not going to tolerate sniping and uncivilized foaming at the mouth on my blog, as it's not a political blog, it's never been a political blog, and to be honest...I really don't want something like politics to divide everyone who visits this place. So play nice or I'll start blocking people from commenting, as I don't have the time, energy, or desire to moderate comments. I have way too many things going on to worry about something like that.
I've met DC Masshole in person, and he's an intelligent person with a good head on his shoulders and a big heart. He and I may not agree 100% politically, but sometimes when you're just hanging out, drinking a beer together, politics take a back seat and you end up focusing on things you have in common. Life isn't all politics, all the time. If you keep that in mind, you'll find you have much, much more in common with people than you ever realized, even if they are affiliated with a political party other than your own.

I don't know that it was a train wreck of a post. You made some excelent points. Nothing wrong with being patriotic. We've got a lot of clean up to do in the US and hopefully, it starts today. Wave your flag with pride.

Great Post!!
I was at the polls when they opened at 6:30am....and was amazed and proud to see the number of people standing with me in the rain for our chance to excersise our constitutional right to vote. And I totally agree 1000% with you.....if you don't vote, shut your friggin Pie Hole and stop bitching.
As always Chad, you have hit the nail right square on the head. Fantastic post!!!

Great post, Chad. When I was at your place for brunch a few weeks ago, I noticed your flag. I was a little surprised at first, because flying the flag all the time is so rare anywhere in the Bay Area. But then I remembered that you're former Air Force, went "aha", and thought no more about it.
I don't fly my flag every day, but it's out there today, because I'm hoping that today we start restoring some sanity to this country.
I'm going to go vote now.

I can understand both sides of the coin about the flag here in SF. For many marginalized groups the flag can be a symbol of oppression, but it can also be one of liberation. It's a symbol, and doesn't really have a fixed meaning. At least IMO.

Kalvin, those "marginalized" groups need to quit being helpless, grab that fucking flag and make it their own. I'm a member of several marginalized groups, actually...and instead of lying down and being a victim, I grabbed that flag because after all, I'm an American, it's an American flag, so I made it MINE.

I've always said, our government would be in great shape if it wasn't run by politicians.
(OK, maybe I haven't always said that, but you know what I mean.)
It's nice to hear from someone in favor of the country and not their "side" -- once again proving you are one heckuva guy.

We should all be proud and patriotic and fly the flag. It's a good thing. The problem,as you rightly identify, is that so many interest groups fight over the right to proclaim it as their flag only. Here's an idea - why don't you fly one of those nice rainbow flags next to it and pronounce yourself a proud patriotic gay American. That will really confuse people...

Terrific post. Today I have been subject to a barrage of e-mails about how each party is right and the other party is wrong, but what is most impressive to me is how little each side really spent discussing the issues beyond one line slogans and sound bites. This country is at its best and at its worst during this time of year, but the fact that we can participate, speak our mind, and disagree is what makes this the country I'm proud to call home. We just need to work a little more on listening to each other.

Nice flag Mr. Chaddy, I see you wraping your naked body in it and roll around your livingroom floor in front of a video camera? Ohhh sorry how did I get off topic there...

I think it's important to vote Democrat simply so Checks and Balances are restored. I would rather have a gridlocked government than a government that has no impediments.
Oh, and I have always liked a pole that resists corrosion.

Well said, Chad.
1) In regards to hurtling things at people in your alley who criticize your flag, wait for them to stand below before installing your next window air conditioner.
2) In regards to comment flame wars, I am glad you responded as you did to your first commenter. Althouth I don't agree with him, having someone respond with name calling and cruelty is something I am sick of on blogs.
3) I think we overanalyze our flag. It is a symbol that means many things to many people, so there is no right representation of it. That concept, my friend, is what our country is built upon.

I have a bumpersticker on my car with Old Glory on it that reads, "It's Not A Republican Symbol!" Fly that flag proud Chad, better or worse we're all Americans.

I think that every morning you should raise the flag while you BLAST the National Anthem like at the Olympic games. That should keep them quiet.
I rather agree that seeing you rolling on your living room flag draped by a flag would be a "tasty" sight.
Those who serve in the military are incredible men and women. My best friend is serving at this time. You remind us that serving ones country is important.
Thanks for the read, even if you were all over the place - it made sense to me.

Hey Darlin'
While I think the Japanese or Korean flags are oh so much prettier than ours, I love where we live, if for no other reason that I met you in this country because of this country's Air Force. OXOXO

Hey Chad, this was a great post. It made me realize that when I see a flag waving I would assume that a Republican or right wing ideologist would be nearby and I would reach for my mace. Hmmmm. You gave me new thoughts.

Oh... now I feel bad about that comment. I don't mace Republicans. I even have two gay Republican friends and I have never hurt them physically. I was just trying to be funny. Trying is the operative word here.

Hi, Sexy. You can raise my flagpole anytime, honey. Screw it to the side of my house. I will bake your enamel finish and with NO corrosion at all. I like your aesthetically pleasing ways, too so long as you don't sling any of your Monkey in Charge caca on me when you become MY dictator.
SO SORRY - I COULDN'T RESIST.
