what disturbs me about this is the similarity between the concept of "emunah" that what your rebbe says is the word of g-d and the concept of prophesy... isn't it kind of dangerous territory to claim that any man has the same sway over lives as the word of g-d? i thought the age of prophesy was gone.
This is one type of Judaism. it's called turn your mind off and listen to your Rebbe.
My Opinion: Think of how much stress you give up when someone else makes the choices for you. Pepsi? Coke?: the Rebbe has a deal with Pepsi. Problem solved. And look at all the time saved not having to listen to the commercials.
Is the current Chareidi obsession with Daas Torah and its wonderful elastic properties any different?
If anything, Chasidim, and Chabad in particular, have a leg up. They have ONE Rebbe, who they follow to the letter. Chareidim are busy running around like chickens without heads trying to figure out what DT to listen to.

Last time I looked, after the Churban, #1 that is, prophecy was given over to children and fools. If I believe that my Rabbi is a Talmid Chacham, that's fine. If I believe that he possesses the power of prophecy, I'm demeaning him!
