Don't you think, this enforcement by attrition, whereby 'illegals' self-deport actually supports an open-border policy? If people (ie labor) move to where conditions are more favorable (either economically or socially) doesn't this seems to support allowing labor to move freely without restiction?

You raise a good point; my philosophies are open-market, supply-sider, and I can see how you can morph that into an open-border theory.
However, as the Supreme Court has ruled the maintenance of the border is the Federal responsibility, and one that neither party in Congress seems inclined to seriously pursue, local authorities have to act.
If simple legislation - either new laws or old ones simply enforced - can make a state less attractive to illegal aliens, then they will either migrate to another state, or go back to their homeland.
So let's stop offering in-state tuition perks to illegal aliens. Let's stop trying to justify giving people who have broken federal immigration law the privilege of a drivers license.
Let's make a firm commitment to deport illegals who are convicted felons (after their prison sentence is complete), and do so with extreme prejudice.
The illegals will either move to a less-restrictive state (and pity those law-abiding tax payers!), or leave the country.
Sounds logical to me!
