Nobody asked me, but.... I'll accept your comments (please remain civil!)

Gravatar I love Kid Rock and I LOVE LOVE that song!

He's definitely got a place in country music - apparently a close personal friend of Hank JR also.

Gravatar As he sang in "You never met a ...."

I drank with Hank, talked blues with Billy
Rocked with Run, sang with Shotgun Willy

As I said, it's sort of biographical, so it's likely he does know Hank Williams, Jr.

I don't care much for rap, but this lyric from Forever is quite descriptive of his style:

I make southern rock
And I mix it with the hip hop
I got more money than Fort Knox
I'll forever be the Kid Rock
Forever!

Gravatar I've been noticing that song on the radio. It's not half bad... I'm just not a Kid Rock fan.

I'm amazed how many songs I grew up with are being "re-made" into "new" songs. Rhihana re-worked Tainted Love, Counting Crows made Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi new again....

I'm starting to feel my age when this happens!

Gravatar I, too struggled a bit when my own 12 year old son started to listen to certain artists. I then quickly remembered when I was a young teen, and Steve Miller's "...funky sh*t", Pink Floyd's "...f*#ked up old hag", Kiss' "Plaster Caster", Lou Reed's "...and she never lost her head even when she was giving head", not to mention countless others that I listened to had little or no adverse effect on my language, actions or thoughts.

I did get a simple thrill out of singing the lyrics and casting a sideways glance at my folks, to see if they had caught on, but that was the extent of the debauchery that these songs caused.

Personally, I let my son listen to whatever he wants to, with one caveat: If I catch him singing the lyrics in front of his mom or his little sister, his iPod gets erased. He's learning respect and decorum while willingly following the rules, and thus gets exposed to music (sometimes great music) that would otherwise be lost to him, if for the lyrical content.

I trust my son, until I have a reason not to trust him. Thus far, he hasn't let me down.

In the meantime, he gets to expand his musical horizons, listening to great musicians, and his musical tastes have become eclectic, like his old man's.

With him becoming an aspiring musician (concert bass and electric bass) I'm proud that his mind is open to all forms of music. Shielding him from anything would be a tragedy.
B.
