Nobody asked me, but.... I'll accept your comments (please remain civil!)

Gravatar Watching all of this with interest. Especially watching the recent development in the Pacific. Keep us posted!

Gravatar I take some issue with your comparison with Obama's reaction to the events in Iran to Bush 41's response to the Shia in Iraq after the Gulf War. If you recall, Bush proclaimed support for the Shia to rebel against Saddam Hussein. But as we all know, he did nothing to follow up when they actually DID rebel.

Empty words would be worse than reticent words. Unless you are willing to commit our country to more American deaths, then the prudent course is as Obama is doing, to proclaim unity with the rights of all to free & fair elections and freedom from violence. As soon as we identify with one candidate over another, we are involving ourselves in the political processes of another country.
I don't think many would have appreciated the leader of another nation declaring that GW Bush had won by less than legal means and that our election process was a sham. Rushing headlong into condemning other nations is part of the reason we haven't been perceived in a very good light throughout the world.

In short, until we are willing to back our words up with action, the best idea is to keep our mouths shut.

Gravatar JoeBloe,

So by your reasoning, it is better to say nothing in the defense of freedom, and let things play out?

Is that what President Kennedy did when he said the US would bear any burden? You've ignored my previous reference to President Reagan... certainly, the US did not engage the Soviet Union's troops over Poland, but the US' position was clearly articulated.

Thanks for your comment.

President Obama has done a great deal of apologizing for the sins of America; no one disputes there has been wrongs committed by the US, but only jaded people won't acknowledge the spread of freedom has vastly outweighed our mistakes.

Gravatar Mrs4444;

We may well be seeing what happens when a President thinks he can negotiate with irrational leaders. President Bush (#43) had North Korea at a negotiating table, but now we have real threats. Where's the "big stick" philosophy when it is needed?
