Randi, thanks for Lesson 2. We're ready to get started on it!
Quick question: will the extra 4 pinwheel blocks be used? will they end up in each corner with the border? or will they just be discarded?
Your pinwheels look very nice. The colors matched up great! Thanks again for all your hard work!

Hi Randi~
Your quilt top looks so lovely! We finished lesson #1 yesterday, and I've just posted a pic of our squares, which now await us. Thank you so much for your detailed instructions. I have so enjoyed sewing again, and am absolutely thrilled to be making a quilt!! I'm actually DOing it, not just dreaming about doing it! LOL My daughter is having fun watching and "helping" in the process too.

Beautiful piecing!
I love that you are doing this! It's a fantastic idea...do you know how to make an e-book? Your quilting tutorial would make a great e-book....
So cool!

Thank you for doing this! I got your site from a blog at homesteadblogger because I posted about wanting to learn to quilt. I am 2 weeks behind but my printer is spitting out pages as I type. Amazing and awesome that someone finally is putting together pictured instructions for the beginner like myself. I need basics and lots of pictures! THank you!! I will not be along with you but when I finish I will post a picture to you

Donna, I do not even know what an e-book is--I would love to know, though!
Melanie, Yes I took the picture this weekend when to took our kids sledding at Lake Isabal--it is a beautiful area!
Deb, Yes, there are 4 extra blocks that will not be used. I figured it would be better to end up with extra than with not enough. It also helps if you have some blocks that come out badly.

WOW...I'm jealous! I wish I could be doing this with all of you but life will not allow for it right now. I am going to print out all the instructions and try it out when things settle down a bit here. It's fun to read everyone else's comments and realize there may be hope for me yet! Thanks for doing this even if we can't all participate right now. The instructions and pic's look clear enough I have no doubt I can pick it up at a later time.? Thanks again!

Excellent lesson, again!
The four extra patches can be joined together with or without sashing to make a coordinating pillow or a small doll blanket.

You gals are doing so well! I'm following along, wishing I could join, but things are wacky at our house right now. And will be at our new house next week. LOL!

Kim in IL sent me. I think it's so cool that you are doing this online quilt instruction. So much better than a book because folks can ask you questions and actually stand a chance of getting them answered!
I wouldn't dream of attempting a quilt at this juncture of my life. It took me a year to do a log cabin and I think the experience did serious damage to some vital part of my psyche. Maybe when (if?) I recover.
Glad I found your blog!

Randi,
I'm having to save your directions so I can start my quilt after football season ends.
I always make grand plans for the end of January and on into March, since our football team is usually finished by then.
But not this year. No time for quilting with all of these photos to be made.
Crissy
P.S. I just love the colors you chose.

I am so excited - DD and I will start after her nap!
I also wanted to add that for the amazingly lazy most machine companies make a 1/4" foot with a guide the drops down so you don't even have to steer the fabric. I'll try to post a pic later. Must go cut!!

I'm really enjoying this quilt so far. Thanks for the very clear instructions. Quick question about this week's assignment...do we press any of the new seams?

Hi Cora,
I ironed after my blocks were pieced and then after my quilt was pieced together. I guess I forgot to put that info into the instructions--sorry!
It sounds like your quilt is moving along fine. I am glad to hear that! Maybe when we are done you could email me a picture of your finished quilt??? I would love to see what everyone comes up with!

I went ahead and ironed the pieces, as it looked like they were in the pics. Hmm, six days til the next lesson...perhaps I could cut a second set?...
No time for lurking,
Cora

Hi Randi,
Thanks for the second lesson. I'm afraid I have to admit that I am fairly behind. Well, I am still on the cutting step. So I am more than fairly behind... sorry. I am going to continue with my project, but I just wanted you to be aware that I will be a little behind the rest. With my new job this week and helping my sister, it's taken a lot of my time and energy. But I will let you know how I do along the way. Thanks so much for doing this and being so patient with us all. Blessings to you.

Cora,

This looks so fun! Alas, starting a new job is taking up tooooo much of my time, I don't know if I'm going to stick with it (the new job). My machine needs a tune-up, but I might just save the instructions and go extra-slow to make a hand-pieced quilt.

Hi Randi -
I have a quilt top photo posted. Would like your opinion on a border color. I have some yellow fabric from another project. Or perhaps a green or orange would work.
Your lessons are great. So far, I'm on track with #2.
Blessings,
