Gravatar That skirt is so cute I could never do it even with your geat directions.I bet Aubry loves to twril and twirl .Char

Gravatar Wonderful tutorial! I have had almost no success sewing skirts for myself and this looks soooo simple. Too bad I don't have a daughter!

I hope this post means you guys are all feeling better!

Gravatar Randi,
So cute and it looks so easy! I have a sz 4 grdaughter. I think I may try this!

Gravatar Twirly skirts....brings back so many memories when my daughters were close to Audrey's age...they had "twirly" skirts with starts on them that matched my nieghbor's little girl's (her grandmother had made them). They spend hours twirling around the living room and outside...thanks for the wonderful memory....every little girl needs a "twirly" skirt!

Gravatar ....uh, stars them, not starts....

Gravatar I love it! Now if only I could sew.

Gravatar Randi, looks nice! You are a great visual instructor!

Gravatar Randi, you are the best!

Gravatar Looks great Randi! I made a skirt last year (was one of my resolutions and just happened to post a pic on my blog last night its very simple too. I accidentally sewed a straight pin in and had to rip and resew some LOL. Was quite a lightbulb moment. xoxo melzie

Gravatar Excellent! I cannot wait to try this out for my Wild Thing! She will love it! Will it work ok with a knit fabric or is that too hard to work with? I'm a very new/novice sewer.

Thanks for the tutorial!
chili

Gravatar Hi Chilihead,

I wouldn't use stretchy fabric for the skirt--I think it would be too thick. Try a 100% cotton fabric (kind of like a quilting fabric). At the Walmart by our house they have some cute $1.00 and $2.00 fabrics--maybe you could check there. I made another one for Aubry out of these fabrics and it only cost me $2.00. Can you tell that I love a good bargain???

RANDI

Gravatar You are just wonderful! I cannot wait to make one for my little girl. She will adore it. I think that we will make a special trip to the store just to pick it out. Thanks so much!

Gravatar Thank you for encouraging a simple skirt pattern. I know a couple of girls who would love a "twirly" skirt. :o)

Gravatar Randi, this is absolutely wonderful. I wouldn't even call myself a beginner when it comes to sewing and I can't even think of a word that describes a stage before beginner, right now. So, I'm not sure what you could call me. LOL!

However, your tutorial looks so simple that I'm going to try this. My daughters would LOVE twirly skirts. Thank you so much!

Gravatar Randi ... MUST YOU BE "SEW" STINKING CREATIVELY GIFTED ON THE SEWING MACHINE? Must you?

Okay ... because I don't feel like paying $80-some bucks for a skirt at JJill, I'll give it a try... soon. When I have absolutely nothing else to do.

And one thing I take from this post that I will treasure... using the pinking sheers. THAT is a tip I will take to my grave. Seriously. I have no idea how to do that ziggy-zaggy thing that store people do on their clothing.

Gravatar That is soooooo cute, I love to see little girls twirling in their skirts. I remember how much I loved to do it as a girl too. The yellow fabric is so cheerful, so cute.

You are such a great teacher!

Gravatar OK, now I think I can handle your tutorial! I will give this a try next week. It turned out so stinkin' cute! Love it! THANKS RANDI!!

Gravatar This is adorable! You have the most creative and inspiring web log

Gravatar Too cute - maybe by the time I get little girl grandchildren I could learn to do this too!

Gravatar I'm the only one twirling round here, but if I had little girls, I'd twirl with them.

That's adorable, Randi.

Gravatar Adorable skirt and material!! After watching you I want to do this too!

Gravatar Awe! You are soooo inspiring. Now I just need to get me a little girl!

I remember wonderful memories of twirling in a skirt when I was a kid! Your Aubry will surely remember this.

Gravatar Randi, I think I might be able to do this one if I can just get the machine threaded right. Now that I have my instructions manual next to the machine there is hope!!

Perhaps I can make one (well, two little girlies means two twirly skirts - egad, I sound like the Count on Sesame Street)before graduation (not for graduation, just before the chaos increases!!)

Gravatar Okay, here's a weird question. I have sewed since I was about 12 years old (150 years ago), so I should be able to do something like this without even thinking about it. I found some material I liked for myself and would love to make a skirt for me. Do you think your skirt instructions would translate to a grown up lady's skirt? I just hate the thought of getting a pattern and pinning it on and all that, if I could do something a lot simpler. This is actually close to what I thought I could do, so it would be nice to get another seamstresses thoughts on the matter.

Gravatar Hi Nancy,

Yes, I think you could just enlarge it to your size. The only thing I would do is add another 1/2 panel of fabric so that you would still have lots of twirl! Aubry's waist size is only about 15" so the two panels are almost too big for her! For my size, I would definitly add at least a 1/2 panel, maybe a full one!

Have fun!

Gravatar This is VERY cool! Probably won't work with my boys, though.

My mom used to make me skirts and shorts for the summer. How much nicer and more creative than "off the rack", too!

Gravatar Rosie would love this! She would twirl herself into the next county! *LOL*

Very good tutorial, but my favorite picture is the last one! *Smile*

Gravatar How fun! Thank you for sharing. I think we will give it a try!

Gravatar I want one for me!!! hehehehe totally joking....but really...my size...hehe...I might make them for emma G as she is so tiny girl I wonder if I can convert the measurements. Well for now everything remains packed and in the garage. So I have to busy myself with creating in my mind...So make those whirly twirly dresses and enjoy her since one day she will give you the look of death if you try to make her wear a whirly twirly dress....sigh..

Gravatar Thanks for the tutorial! I'm sure my almost 5 yr old would love one of these.

Gravatar good idea just i dont sow but i know some that can so might just have to share it with them!

Gravatar i love this and i'm going to try it. i haven't sewed in years but i just attempted to make aprons for my girls with only one small mistake.

thanks for sharing your great ideas!

Gravatar i LOVE the picture of her twirling!!

Gravatar Thanks for this wonderful post. I intend to make some of these for my granddaughters, two of whom especially LOVE to twirl!

Gravatar Randi, I haven't sewn in years, but the other day I came across several yards of fabric I'd originally bought for quilting and then, soon after, ran across this tutorial. It seemed time to dive in and give it a go. I started with your pattern here and made one skirt for myself. And then I modified the pattern and made one that was an A-line (fully lined, no less). Then I tried something else - using one panel instead of two, for a straight skirt. And somewhere in the middle of all this I finished curtains for the bathroom. Thanks for giving me the nudge to try sewing again.
