..."Black purchasing power reached $913 billion, and by 2012, it is expected to reach $1.1 trillion..."
My point exactly, I have no doubt it was a struggle for them to stick to their commitment, but until blacks get an clear understanding that our dollars=power, we will always be dependent on others.
Everyone from white corporate Ameria to the Korean on the corner store understands the power of our dollars, when will we?

That's admirable they're buying black. When black establishments STOP running out of shit, give better customer service (they're either rude, gauche or condescending), gouging their communities etc...I'll go back 2 black. Until then Chad & Akbar will get my loot! *this exception are the stylists & barbers..there's a plethora of choices out there!

Right on point! How can black owned businesses succeed if the African American community doesn't invest in the black-owned businesses. We keep everyone else rich but us, and it's time that we rise above these setbacks! This article is well written as always!

You all make valid points and I agree. Lord knows I try to patronize black businesses and still do when feasible. The pickings are slim here in Central PA, but also often, the service and products are not great! If I'm going out of my way to hunt you down to give you my money (and I'm not asking for a "hook up"), then the least you can do is be professional, return my call, have the stuff in stock (or give me a reasonable the when it will be in), open on time (so when you sign says open at 9:00 a.m., I'm not standing at the door at 9:20 scratching my head wondering why the lights are out), etc. Also, if I need some work done around the house and I ask for a contract, don't look at me with an offended look like I'm being unreasonable! I demand the same from "white owned" business and have certainly taken my money elsewhere with irresponsible ones, so I hold black/minority-owned businesses to the same standards. Times are hard for everyone and I can't just throw money away.

Racist, absolutely, 100 percent pure racist. Think about it! What if whites said, "Only buy from WHITE vendors for a year". Wouldn't that be racist? You had better believe it!

Wallah,
Are you kidding? Whites "buy white" 24/7. How many white people actually buy from Black vendors? I'll guess to say ZERO!
No it would not be racist. We buy from "white" vendors 99.9% of the time, making white companies rich, enabling white CEOs and employers to buy big houses in the suburbs and to send their kids to college. Meanwhile, Black families and kids are stuck in poverty while financing these companies and lifestyles of their employees (in which a lot of them won't even hire us, but for low-wage positions) that we do business with. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with buying from Black vendors for a year and beyond to help uplift other Blacks out of poverty. That's how we survived before integration.
