Side note: DeMille's backdrop painter for "Ten Commandments", Arnold Freiberg (sp?), was a devout Mormon. His artwork includes the paintings printed as frontispiece on the official publications of the Book of ~.


Small world: DeMille lived next door to my girl friend of college days. "Nice old duck" was her evaluation.

Courts - including Supremes - have ruled that a display of Ten Commendments is a promotion of religion. Even if not paid for by a public body. However, you can have a Nativity creche, if you include a Hanakkah whatever and Santa Claus(!) on the same patch of lawn.

Go figure...


If they fix the "Commandments" to say "Suggestions," would that make it acceptable?
