Wow! Some one can still be charged with "corrupting the morals of a minor"?

Mark change that headline pronto those young ladies attend St. Maria Goretti High in beeyootiful South Philly- one of four all-girl RC high
schools still in bidness in old Philly industrial neighborhoods or in The Hood. Although demographics are such that next year the young men of nearby St. John Neumann pronounced NOY-mann High will be joining the ladies as the schools merge thus turning the institution into a hotbed of impure thoughts St. Maria and Bishop Noy-mann intercede for us.

I'm all for mercy and stuph, but this particular instance of street justice seems to fit the crime.

To whom do we submit names for the "corrupting the morals of a minor" charge? Or is this a Philly law only?

I sure hope the guy didn't enjoy the public humiliation! You never know with those kinds of guys.

Can't believe no one has yet remarked on the name of the patroness of the school!

I'm not saying she got these girls together to beat the man up per se . . . but this incident had to be more than a little instructive to would-be Alexanders. After, what was it, seven incidents, they had to be rather annoyed, I certainly would be, and even nice girls aren't shrinking violets these days, just how it is. And I think this is one of those situations where, even if you think it might be cool to be chased by 20-odd riled-up teenage girls, well, as they say, reality is never quite like fantasy.

"...reality is never quite like fantasy."

Oy, is that ever the truth. But don't tell anybody- it would wreck the economy, the advertising business, the entertainment industry, etc.

OK MQ I'll comment that Maria was Italiano girl murdered by dude who wanted to have his way with her who converted and attended her canonization ceremony. Quite the heroine for the age of Britney/Christina/Pink/Madonna/Fill In Blank For Hottie Of The Moment.

Has anyone noticed the ad in that article? Societal schizophrenia?

Gerard E.
Your home patch - I'm surprised Homer hasn't had something to say.

Good on the girls - bet he doesn't feel so 'flash' now.

Don Kiwi- Homer doesn't hang out in that neighborhood cuz even he doesn't want a beatdown. Remember this is the neighborhood where the mob guy on trial for murder this week hid from the cops under the bed of Mob Leader's Wife while Mob Leader was/is a guest of Club Fed. And who hinted in his trial that Mrs. Mob Leader had an affair with a New York football player leading to what the more gentle call a termination of pregnancy. Mob Guy is still going to Club Fed. Don't mess with Goretti Girls.

Everyone knows South Philly is a tough neighborhood. That Susanto fellow apparently forgot that.

D-oh! Missed one more cool fact that Mob Guy has a store-bought leg. Must have been tough to store it in Mrs. Mob Leader's closet.

Mark - so should we buy them all t-shirts from the Homestar Runner shop? ; )

shame on those Catholic girls. To kick and beat him was not necessary,
Anyway, he will get beat up in jail probably.

I, like Gerald, am a Philadelphian, born and bred, though I now live in the suburbs.

Philly is a great city that I am proud to claim as my home. I hope folks around the country don't get the wrong impression from this news item and think that our Catholic diocesan high school girls are savage vigilantes (but then again, that might not be so bad after all).

While I am on the subject of civic pride, let me confront the common wisdom regarding our sports fans.

Yes, our Eagles football fans get a bit rowdy and we did have a special court to immediately arraign miscreants. But isn't the problem the same in other NFL cities as well?

The fans who booed Kobe Bryant at the NBA All-Star Game (well before the rape charges) were not all from Philly. Two-thirds of the crowd at the stadium were out-of-towners.

Yes, we did boo Santa Claus, but that Santa had a cheap Santa suit and was reportedly drunk.

And best of all, remember, we Philly fans DID NOT burn down our abandoned buildings when celebrating our teams' championships over the past three decades; take that Chicago and Detroit!

And besides, what other great American city has a mayor whose office in City Hall was bugged by the FBI in the midst of an anti-corruption investigation?

Philadelphia: home of soft pretzels, Tastykakes, cheese steaks, a great Archdiocese ... and blatant government corruption! What a city!

Bob- Nice summary of our favorite Big City With All Its Works/Pomps. It almost fits some great lines from a
Kris Kristofferson song- "he's a walking contradiction/partly true and partly fiction....."
