when Fr. Judge is spoken of as being 'openly gay' what exactly does that mean? Does that mean he was like the "bishop" who was living with his boyfriend and calling gay sex sacramental (a visiable sign of grace?!?!?) or that he was simply gay but chaste?

I wish I could find the sources, but.... I recall some gay-PR at my university in the late 1980s stating gays were a wealthier part of the populatio....educated, childless, etc. Thus they deserve more respect from corporate America (at least) because they have $$$.

Then a few years ago I saw an article in the local paper describing how gays suffer job discrimination and earn less money than heterosexuals (like the male/female salary gap).

Which way is it? Are they wealthier or poorer than the average American? Or does it depend on how activists want to market themselves?

Last I heard there was serious doubt about the accuracy of the smear that Fr. Judge was gay. Unfortunately, this is the kind of "everybody-knows" myth that just can't be put down once it gets started.

Does anyone else remember the denial of this "fact"?

I do recall the denial. It is odd that this man came out with all this fantastic stuff after the priest was dead. I personally think he was just a nice priest trying to help a guy and that gave an opening for him to make his claim and have his 15 minutes of fame. I constantly warn my hubby about hanging out with the gay men at work. They have met me and hate me. It wouldnt be the first time a gay man pulled something like this. Marriages can fail because of a rumor started at work in the hope(of a gay man) of scoring with the husband while he is depressed.

Many women get AIDS from boyfriends or husbands who they did not know were bisexual. It is very difficult for a man to get AIDS from a woman: he gets it by having gay sex and should be aware of those consequences by now. It is in women's best interest to lobby for the criminalization of homosexuality as a protection to themselves.
