Me too! But only if it can have my SSN#, my criminal record, my medical history, a full report of my tendencies towards disease based on my genetic background, and credit report on it and only if it can be read by any bar-code scanner!!!!

What victor said. Also, it's got to be fully compatable with that OnStar technology so my every move can be tracked by Big Brother.

Oh boy, can I get one? Can I, can I, can I, pleeeeeeeease?

(yeah right....)

I'm still wondering how our immune systems would react to such an implant. Anyone know?

In Jesu et Maria,

I saw Pat Robertson talking about this today. It's good to see he, I, and Mark agree on something. This thing is freaky scary.

Anyone surprised that RFID was born out of Miltary Technology?

Its not a question of wanting one, its a question of how long before they are required?

Oh, yeah, that'll happen.

Obviously no one at this company has any hard-core Evangelical or fundamentalist friends or they'd be finding a serious soft-sell for this. Not that you have to fall into either of those categories to find this disturbing.

The kicker: You've gotta pay to have it implanted (note the point about the "discount" at the bottom). Greeeeeaaaaaat.

Maybe you Catholics should start listening to your Fundamentalist friends like myself and noticing that things like the Mark of the Beast--"needed to buy or sell" are predicted in Revelation and coming to pass.

A fundamentalist Christian wouldnt work for such a diabolical company.

Yeah sure I want and need criminals to have a motive to cut my hand off. If they ever start forcing them on people I will cut mine out.. The End of Days people should be paying close attention to this and homeland security.. "Sure we have the right to to plant bugs on a human person I mean hell we have em in their telephones anyhow." Dear God I want that thing repealed. How long before the proaborts take the presidency and lable me a terrorist.

You may get your wish, Mark. I don't know if Rome is a, post or pre-mil, but St. John's Apokalypse -is- in canon.

I won't take it. Even if it is a "counter-terrorism, homeland security matter"

When they relocate us, we'll all be together.

Gaaaakh. So I click the link, read the article, and find out that the company I work for, in addition to its other ethical shortcomings, is also the actual manufacturer of these things. Oh, good Lord.

This is beyond creepy. And I think Steve has an excellent point.

I guess it really *is* time for me to change my job description to "overage freshman".

Victoria, forget the Mark of the Beast. These days, Catholics believe the Book of Revelation is a symbolic description of the Mass. The Beast and the False Prophet are just the protestors from ACT-UP.

Yes, Tom Round, but when you consider the lengthy and ever-changing list of candidates that looney-tunes Protestants have identified as "The Beast" over the centuries (Henry Kissinger, anyone?), you can hardly blame them for allegorising the Apocalypse. Even Luther doubted that it should stay in the canon.

First of all, the belief that the Book of Revelation pertains to the liturgy is not a new one; early Christian writers said as much.

Second, that fact does not cancel out the eschatological meaning of the book. It's not either/or, it's both/and. We do generally believe that the Antichrist will come toward the end of the world. We just aren't as enthusiastic as our Evangelical separated brethren about trying to figure out who it might be among current political figures. Hitler??? Kissenger??? Reagan??? Gorbachev??? Prince Charles??? All these, and many more, have been implicated at various times.

Third, we don't know whether this chip is/will be the actual "mark of the beast". For one thing, it's certainly not manditory yet. Whether it is the mark or not, I wouldn't want it anyway. But to claim that this microchip is a certain fulfillment of Revelation 13:16-17 is really jumping the gun at this point.

In Jesu et Maria,

Ya know-- would these things be that bad if they were only implanted in single males? The chips could hold precious information, such as length of last relationship, how many times he has dumped a woman, the history of his relationship with his mother. These things could be pretty useful.

Sophia, one doesn't need a microschip implant to give you that info. Buy a couple of drinks and he'll voluntarily unload/ download it all...
