Wonder if he got a stipend from Caesar to produce this "art"?

I don't think so, craig. I don't see any form of animal dung on the artwork.

I think I remember reading about this. I believe the inscription makes reference to a soldier (pictured next to the cross) worshiping his God. I can't remember the name of the soldier, but further on in the barracks, the insulted soldier writes his name and "faithful" next to it.

(Is it just me or does this inscription imply that Jesus had the head of a duck?)

I remember reading (somewhere, long time ago) Christ's head in this graffito is supposed to be of a donkey. In other words: Jesus is an ass and His believers are fools

Senhor Jesus Cristo, Filho de Deus, tem piedade de mim, pecadora!

The ancient Romans used to make fun of the Jews by claiming they worshiped a donkey. One of their writers claimed the Israelites were led out of Egypt by a donkey and so this became the joke with them. That is what makes this inscription so interesting and points to it's early date. It shows an early understanding by the pagan who drew it, that the Christian was worshiping Jesus as divine.

JanJan:

Cool tidbit! I did not know that!

Somewhere there has to be a paycheck for all the random information I know...

What does Dan Brown have to say about this? This was before Constantine had the Catholic Church declare Jesus divine! How can this be?
