Furthermore Bishops have no jurisdiction over the Jesuits (or the Franciscans, Dominicans etc.). All a Bishop can do is kick them out of his diocese!

A bishop can, I think, have something to say about whether an institution gets to call itself "Catholic." (Also, he has a "bully pulpit," as Rod has noted.)

Again, I ask the question of our lawyer friends: If an organization tries to raise money (via donations) by portraying itself to be affiliated with an organization but consistantly acts contrary to the beliefs and practices of that organization, can it be called fraud?

Not if that organization is the Jesuits (ba dum pum).
Seriously. Is it fraud? Probably. Is it legally actionable fraud? Good luck. Although I would love to see someone take on JCU for false advertising (also ND after the queer filmfest/vagina monologues debacle).

The same sort of foolishness has been happening at Notre Dame. There, the skirts of academic freedom are being used to hide behind. I'd like to challenge these folks to place their argument in writing and post it on the web. Copy to Bishop D'Arcy who ought prescribe as penance to Monk Malloy, another reading of Ex Corde.

I'm shocked at Fr. Glynn's attitude.
Last year, when this blog publicized that JCU's website had a link to pro-abortion Planned Parenthood, and numerous e-mails were sent to Fr. Glynn, the PP links were removed in less than a week!
Keep sending those e-mails!

It couldn't hurt to alert the mainstream media in Cleveland.
Send an e-mail to the two "religion reporters" for the Plain Dealer (the local daily newspaper):
David Briggs:
dbriggs@plaind.com
Karen Long
klong@plaind.com
I look at it like this.
It's easy for Fr. Glynn to ignore a flood of e-mail from strangers. All he has to do is hit the "delete" button.
It's not so easy for him to ignore phone calls, bad publicity and pesky questions from reporters.

I used to attempt to appeal to these guys by quoting the teachings of the Church and appealing to their conscience.
Then I realized they could care less about the Church and its teachings.
The only things that work are public humiliation and concern over losing money.
