...no justice until The Passion gets more!

PS - it's a good thing you posted today, since I needed my "Mark Shea" fix.

As always, Billy Crystal was the star performer at the event.

Well, bully for Hobbiton! That's some wonderful news. I had to look twice to make sure this wasn't a parody piece -- shows how cynical I've gotten about the Oscars.

Pints all around on me!

The Oscars could have done better sans the idiotic political statements of a few winners (those few who weren't in LOTR). But I suppose you can't take moronic grandstanding out of certain actors/documentarians.

BTW, nice to see Michael Moore decorating an oliphaunt's foot.

But still, yes, justice has been served, the cosmic order is restroed and all's right with the world!

Yes! By the way, the woman who won best actress played Eileen Wuornos, a psycho killer. That was a TV movie 10 years ago starring Jean Smart. Why is it that best actor/actress awards go to those who play major nut cases or other "abnormal" people?

Peggy,

I suppose because the Academy thinks that it takes real talent to pretend to be nuts on screen (and do so convincingly). Of course it helps if the actor really is nuts himself (or herself).

R.W.
They come in pints?
I'm getting me one!!

Cheers,

Oh glorious victory! Now are come the days of the king. May they be blessed.

Cool. Though I do think that FotR deserved it a lot more...

Yawn! Didn't win any of the acting awards did it? If they had done justice to this story, things would have been different (sorry to be the t**d in the punchbowl here).

Every now and then, the Academy gets something right.

(I agree with Papist Girl, and I have substantial disagreement with several of Jackson's decisions, primarily as relates to characterization . . . but they're _still_ great movies.)

John seems unaware of the factors affecting Oscar nominations and didn't notice that RotK got the Screen Actors' Guild award for "best ensemble," a category not in the Oscars.

Sean Penn needs to get a grip and realize he reguritates dialogue and doesn't walk on water.

Sandra,

I will refrain from commenting on these movies in the future as there doesn't seem to be much point in my doing so. But some day I hope to live to see these books revisited by someone who has a clear vision of what Tolkien was trying to do and say in his trilogy. Until that bright day, I still have those wonderful books to go back to and the dynamite movie in my head.

Bill Murray deserved the Best Actor Oscar more than Penn...when will the Academy realize that comedy is hard?

All 11 nominations
Yes! The Passion of the Christ is out in theaters and Tolkien's work as portrayed as a movie (imperfectly though) is awarded and getting people to read the originals!

Ah, the world is good in the Shire if only for a moment!

I agree with Papist Girl and matthew Martin---I think the Fellowship of the Ring deserved more awards in 2002 but the academy begrudgingly saved it for the end to award the series and I have some problems w/the way Jackson portayed some characters but they're still *wonderful* movies.

Oops, that was me above--didn't mean to not sign. Must get some sleep

I wonder if the Oscars to RotK were really for the whole 12-hour work?

From what I heard, the concensus among Those Who Chatter was that if RotK won this year, it would be more a recognition of the whole than that specific film.

Yes, the sweep appears to have been a tribute to the whole project. All the production people have now been honored. There would have been several more Oscars for FELLOWSHIP except for the presence of MOULIN ROUGE and Hollywood's feeling that Ron Howard was "overdue" for an award.

(in case you missed it)

Sandra,
Do you think the sweep was a tribute to the whole project?

My e-mail was acting up. Sorry for the multiple posts.

Ok? So? Very very nice. So?

There were no good movies on this year anyway.

Great movie, but I think this is a been there, done that issue.

What's happening with the election and your views on that one? Let's not be escapist on that one.

Personally, I think the election of the Holy Roman Emperor should take place immediately. We've had enough of a delay as it is.
