Translation:

"Free speech for me but not thee."

The first commandment of the American Left in action.

Don't forget, Mark, you're the one who "smells of fear," not him... (:?

I wonder how many baby killers Verizon works with a promotes? Not that this guy cares.

Sounds like a good endorsement to me.

What a craven, small, insignigicant man...he sounds like a cat: if he was bigger than us, he'd eat us, but not before torture...

Hmmm, I bet Verizon and PayPal know how much traffic flies by this blog. Sleep well tonight Mark.

The truth is bothersome. It always will be.

Oooooh, he may have clout.

Yeah, right. Unless he runs a Fortune 500 company, he's got zero clout with Verizon or Ebay. And thank God for it. What a fascist punk.

The guy sounds like he's scared.

To paraphrase Hannity -- wow us with your superior ideas, Rich.

Instead, he tries to silence dissent.

But Dale, haven't you heard that it's the Left that is the Great Defender™ of Free Speech? You know, "disagree with what you say but defend to the death your right to say it" yadda yadda yadda ...

It's only those digital brownshirts in the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy™ who try to censor anybody?

Didn't you get your copy of the script?

peace,

Soooo Rich! Mark is presently buffing up his baseball bat......for yet another gay bashing! .....sarcasm off...This guy is so clueless he didn't even get the name of the site right ( that rhymes!) It's not called "Catholic and Loving It", but "Catholic and Enjoying It". Leftist academic?

From his vantage point on the extreme left, I suppose Mark's ranting *would* be viewed as extremist. But turn around and look the other way, Rich! There is no one on the other side of you!!!

Rich wins my loser of the week award. Only in the deluded, muddied minds of the left, can they hold the contradictory positions that toleration is the most necessary virture, and on the other hand that any disagreement with their views is considered "hate-mongering" and should be censored or even prosecuted.

From this vantage point, sir, *YOU* appear to be the bigoted hate-mongerer.

Richy-poo sounds ticked!

You're still my hero, Mark. That guy forget to mention the danger in your followers worshiping you as some sort of Holy Roman Emperor or something.

Also, for what it's worth, I find your news commentary less biased than that of the mainstream media. This is where I come to find thought-out approaches to all of the tough moral dilemmas facing the world and the Church, such as the war in Iraq or the sex-abuse scandal, as opposed to some self-righteous crap from another op-ed columnist who obviously has all of the the answers to the world's or Church's problems.

"Although Mr. Shea's rantings are likely to be viewed as extremist, I'm concerned that you provide a vehicle for it."

That 'although' at the start of the sentence completely messes up his point. :o)

"...and they rejoiced that they were found worthy of ill-treatment because of the Name."

What scary is that having an active faith is now considered to be "extreme".

Umm, okay, that's like saying I have a checking account at Bank of America - therefore I have some clout with them.

Give me a break. Who is this jackleg? Perhaps he can crawl back under the rock from whence he came...

So Rich finally got tired of trolling around the comment boxes and decided to descend into the uttermost depths of Usenet lameness: trying to get someone whose opinions you don't like to lose his ISP account. Can't say I'm surprised after his comment about Catholics being hypocrits for complaining about the persecution of Christians because of the crusades and Inquisition. Can't say I'm sorry to see him go, either.

"Marky-poo"?

Did I miss a memo?

Ah, so *that's* what "hate speech" means: any speech I happen to hate. Pfui, from this registered Democrat!

"Can't say I'm sorry to see him go, either."

Did he go? Really?? I can only hope we are so lucky. Seriously, I pray for Rich's soul. Life is too great a gift to waste on misguided, inane, or outright immoral causes.

re Kale's post,
And NOW you're allowing cat bashing, do you now how many cat owners there are in this country?

Probably has the same clout with Verizon as Mother Of Your Humble Scribbler. Visited by phone repairman this date. Who repaired damage to phone lines by mean vicious insensitive squirrels. Careful with that chewing on wires stuff, Bub. Bad habit.

Did he go? Really?? I can only hope we are so lucky. Seriously, I pray for Rich's soul. Life is too great a gift to waste on misguided, inane, or outright immoral causes.

I doubt he'll show his face in here, so to speak, again after trying to get Mark in trouble. Mark would be tolerant to a fault if he he hasn't already banned Rich.

I fear that Rich is guilty of excessive blithering.

Don't blame Rich for not replying. I responded to his subliminal plea to be banned after I got his email. Rich is free to start his own blog, if he likes.

Thus spake Richie:

"...Mark Shea's Blog, 'Catholic and Loving It',..."

ROTFL

Sheesh! He can't even get the name of Mark's blog right! As that great American philosopher Bugs Bunny would say, "Nyaaaaah, what a ma-roon!"

Well, on the free speech end, it would be within Verizon's rights to pull the plug on Shea, if it wanted to . . . that's part of Verizon's right to free expression. So we can make fun of him, and call him closed-minded, but this really has nothing to do with free speech on a legal level (only a cultural one).

Ah, The reasonable, balanced, thoughtful objections of the left! I guess the line of thinking is, if you can't refute it, then an ad hominum attack is the way to go. I am surprised he didn't end his email with,
"Mark doesn't play fair!!!"

Mark an extremist? Ha! This guy should get a load of some of the real RadTrad extremists harrasing the peaceful priests and pilgrims at Fatima: http://www.oltyn.com/HindMay5.htm

Rich is obviously a Nazi.

Not only does M Rich get the name wrong, he gets the potential banishment wrong. If you find a site's content objectionable, you petition the hosting entity -- i.e. Blogspot -- to take it down. I don't *think* that blogspot is owned by Verizon.

Still he did succeed in getting *something* cut off, no?

Blogspot is a part of Blogger and is therefore owned by Google. You're absolutely right that Rich should be directing his juvenile efforts towards Blogger, but he probably knows that they don't pay any attention at all to what people post and so he'll be out of luck there. I seriously doubt he'll get anywhere with Verizon and would be very shocked if Paypal gave him to time of day.

Rich was a troll and trolls above all else want attention. Maybe he told Mark he was sending the email be he thought mark would post it and make him the center of attention again.

Maybe he told Mark he was sending the email be he thought mark would post it and make him the center of attention again.

That should have been:

Maybe he told Mark he was sending the email because he thought mark would post it and make him the center of attention again.

Sorry about that.

Don't worry, Mark. Under the Keilholtz Dictatorship I will see that he gets to know and love the taste of castor oil. Liberal scurregie like that drive me batty.

Hey Marky-poo,

Just so you know, I thought your Italy / anti-Muslim crack finally crossed a line. Please see the text of an email I've sent to Verizon. I also sent one to Paypal.

Everyone needs a mission in life. I guess Richy-poo's is to be the blog-police. Sheesh. Get a life. lol.

I'd venture a guess that both Verizon and Paypal are profiting greatly from FAR more objectionable material on the internet than Mark's blog.

Since I do business with both of them, I may have a bit of clout.

Hey. I make phone calls and occasionaly buy something from Ebay, so I do business with both too. I've got clout. Who knew? Better watch your step, Shea.

Cool Erik!!! Can I join in? I thought about establishing my own dictatorship, but found that I was too lazy. But if you take power, I'd be more than happy to ride on your coattails and enforce your every whim. It sounds like you agree with me almost all the time, so you must be a very fine fellow!

Nice of Rich to provide an example of a gay brownshirt.

I have no idea if Rich is gay. Definitely showing brownshirt tendencies though.

You're right. I jumped to conclusions. It may have been the "Marky-poo" remark.

That's just generic contempt.

Hey wait, I resemble that last remark.

They just can't shut you down. I mean my morning laugh just wouldn't be the same with out you.

Dave,

I see a future for you! How would you like to be a General? You show all the fine traits that are required!

Jody:

No wonder you're a frequent visitor here; Having visited your dreary blog once, I can't blame you for seeking an escape.

What Italy crack? Did I miss something?

Gerry, we can't all be as gay as you.

My, isn't he the clever thing! If it were me, I might think about contacting _his_ ISP.

Hate-mongering??? Didn't this guy ever visit The Lamb Report??? Mark, I'm glad you're here, even tho sometimes the discourse in the boxes gets wild and woolly. You've helped me re-discover my faith, which I almost lost, and have alerted me to many other blogs which I enjoy. Send that guy to Canada -- here in THe People's Republic of Maplegrad "ve haff vays" of dealing with dissidents like him (LOL). Seriously, tho, keep on keepin' on. I can understand why your sarcasm gets the better of you sometimes. It's a coping mechanism for dealing with all the garbage we as Christians face in society. "Illegitimata non carborundum"!

I agree with just about everyone here, including Dave - Erik, count me in too! Can I have a position with the Aesthetics Police?

But I really can't let this go by, even though it's a complete non sequiter from someone who's obviously obsessed:

"Mark an extremist? Ha! This guy should get a load of some of the real RadTrad extremists harrasing the peaceful priests and pilgrims at Fatima:"
http://www.oltyn.com/HindMay5.htm

Ellen neglects to mention that the "priests and pilgrims" were Hindus who had gone to the Shrine to perform Hindu rituals on a Catholic altar, and to worship Mary as a Hindu goddess - all with the approval of the Shrine rector. This is just plain scandalous, and no good Catholic should be defending it.

And how were those eeeevil and damnable RadTrads at CFN "harassing" them? As far as I could tell, Vennari was merely writing an article about the event.

Please. Let's not use Richy-poo tactics on each other.

Mark has, in the last two weeks, alternately taken shots at gays, protestants, muslims, jews, and pro-choice advocates, without provocation at times...

I. Isn't it deeply politically incorrect not to capitalise these names?

II. I can't speak for [M]uslims, [J]ews, and pro-[C]hoice-advocates, but I'm pretty certain I speak for all the evangelicals lurking around C&EI in replying: Go jump. We don't [always/ often] agree with Vulgar Mark.Sism but (unlike certain other Designated Victimological Groups) we are not interested in demanding that Verizon censor him. It's, err, contrary to the Tradition[s] of our ancestors. (Sancte Gutenberge, ora pro nobis!)

Perhaps what Rich didn't note is important; Mark has failed miserably as a hatemonger. Where is the mistreatment of Democrats, Supreme Court Justices, Sean Penn, Bill Clinton, John Kerry, Shock-Jocks, Teddy Kennedy, NPR, Jane Fonda, Martha Stewart, ...... the list goes on and on.

Rich is extremely limited in his vision. He's clearly un-mutual, anti-inclusive, bigoted and narrow-minded to not keep track of every slight to any group or individual. Shame on you, Rich!

Poor Rich Paules.
I will spare him the humiliation of venting my Kiwi vernacular spleen upon him - all previous comments say it pretty well anyway.

But did you check his e-m address?
crassbomb1005@yahoo.com
Now if I did business with Yahoo....

'crass' - yes, very.
'bomb' - yip, he's bombed out.
'1005' - nearly a thousand years out of date - no wonder he got so much wrong.

Please, Mark, don't ban him - we need guys like Rich to remind us how not to be
....or to have a bit of fun...

One thing in particular about Rich's email raised my eyebrows: Did anyone else notice that he included pro-choice advocates among such "protected classes" as gays, muslims and jews--three perpetually oppressed groups that we must all tip-toe around to avoid offending? Could this be a sign of things to come? Will it become taboo to voice any grievances with the actions of pro-choice advocates? I wonder how the leftist thought police is going to spin that one...

"pro-choice advocates are oppressed because [insert assinine rationale here]"

Of course, he did throw Protestants in there... Red herring, I say!

Is this same Rich I took issue with regarding the Army removing a bible verse from one of it's medals?

Please tell me this is sarcasm.

In the words of Casey Stengel: "Don't pay attention to him. Don't even ignore him."

I like the word "hate-monger." I wonder if it is like being a fish-monger but you monger hate. Monger? A funny word. I am a cynic-monger. A history monger. Funny word.

I could be wrong.

Is Jesus a salvation-monger? A mecy-monger?

I could be wrong.

I object to anti-cat comments no matter who makes them. Besides, clearly indicates a bias against Ancient Egyptian religion. For your punishment, read "Thomisina" and be enlightened.

I once read a fundie who referred to Catholics as "works-mongerers." I had to laugh.

Very well, Meredith, I name you Viceroy of the Peninsula. I always get lost down there anyway.

Are there any monger-mongers? People who monger for mongerings sake? Odd word.

I could be wrong.

In frank discussion with Mark, I mentioned that, in my juvenile/assinine zealotry, I didn't realize I was offending so many people until I saw the massive response in this comment box. Now I can breathe, relax, and get my blood pressure down into a nominal range, as I clearly have a tendency to hyper-over-react where my personal beliefs are involved. The responses in this comment box show that, if nothing else, at least I'm in good company.

I mentioned to Mark that a hiatus would do me some good. It would curb my overly snide mouth a tad (win more flies with honey than vinegar) and allow me to return to my initial reason for posting here - providing a dissenting, but sane point of view, which is clearly not where I've been going of late.

Mark and I intend to discuss our differences via email, like adults, heaven forbid (and privately, so no face-saving measures are called for). Perhaps we'll each convince the other of the merits of our position and I'll be opening a pro-Catholic blog and Mark will be posting assinine comments there.

Have a good holiday.

Assinine-monger.

I think we're about to enjoy the prospect of progressives trying to stem the growth of dissent to their establishment.....which is going to be absolutely hilarious like this letter.

We've got that in France : we are very tolerant. You know tolerance was Voltaire's virtue and we are no less noble-minded than this greatest philosoph of all . So, we are tolerant with every body who think as we do. However if you aren't a leftist in matter :
- of sexuality : if you're personnaly against condom, it's the same as if you were a tyrant wanting every one to observe chastity.
- of respect of life : how can anyone be against abortion? it's simple in France there is no debate at all ! La chose est entendue. A simple elected woman tried todo something : they injured her to the point she cryed at the National Chamber.
- on imigration : if never you have an objection on this point of if you express you don't agree with islam, you're an awful fascist, islamophob, etc ... (note that homophoby does exist; islamophoby does exist; antisemitism does exist; however anti-christianisme doesn't ???)
- etc...
And if you have this fascist and nazi-like habit to go to mass regularly, you are ill with non-curable-hatred to humanity. We can't tolerate that !

In a word we will be tolerant with you as long as you think and do exactly as you have to, that means exactly as we hink and we do.
(I'm french and trying to understand what can be the definition of this strange way of being tolerant ????)
