Yep, this is obviously being done tongue-in-cheek to make a point about the liberals' spying on conservatives' churches. Seems Elliot (or Mark?) didn't see it was a spoof.
Well, there is a history of that...
I remember Mark crying hellfire and brimstone over a website that purportedly offered designer babies...only to realize that it was a promotional website for a movie about cloning. 
Jonathan, as has been noted repeatedly on this Web site, it's hard to tell satire from actual fact in this Orwellian times.
Satire occurs mainly when someone manages to envision the ridiculous truth before it happens.
Mark H's Pessimistic Law of Unfolding Events: "Yesterday's silly satire is today's troubling development is tomorrow's happy status quo."
