Are these guys for real?

Amen Mark!

May I say, at the risk of conjuring from the deep one of the more infuriating/entertaining and certainly long-winded trolls in cyberspace:

LOL!

I note that Benedict's picture has already been put across the top with the other false popes...

Honors upon honors for this blog and its minder, referee and head-bottle-washer...none, I suspect, more reassuring than, as you say, Mark, the scorn of such bizarre folk...

Marek,

Frankly, I don't see why they should be taken any more seriously than Andrew Sullivan. We've both seen the "ultra-orthodox" in action and know that they are at hear protestants whose own private judgement trumps that of the Church and her Lord. I don't think their hatred or contempt is however, something you should covet. Their embrace of such insane and quite literally damnable hatreds should be an occasion for fear and trembling on our part, because it is a sign of what advanced (devolved?) stages of the hell-bound heart looks like. It is easy to respond with contempt to contempt, particularly when one encounters real evil, be it the deranged ideaologues at Democratic Underground , pedophile priests or schismatic traditionalists (in the end all are showing a fatal attraction to roads that threaten to take them to the same place). I think it might be a good discipline to spend the time that would be wasted indulging in schadenfreude to read Cardinal Ratzinger's writings and meditate on what he, as Benedict XVI might call us to.

Pax,

David

Even as someone inclined to agree with some but not all of what Novus Ordo Watch puts out, I'm rather curious that Mr. Shea even cares two pins what such "disrepectable" voices from the margins say. Who cares what an insignificant number of "crackpots," having neither academia nor any other significant social institution endorsing and amplifying them, think....

... unless, lurking underneath all the lunacy, there lies a certain indisputable kernel of truth behind their perspective, easily drowned out and castigated on account of the way it's presented, but unignorable nonetheless?

charles:

The explanation is less Byzantinely Freudian than all that. Somebody pointed out they had taken a swipe at me today, so I blogged on it.

Sometimes a cigar is just a smoke, Charles.

It's probably a waste of mental energy to think too much about rad-trad mythology, but why does this site think B'nai B'rith is masonic?

Kevin,

It's all part of that World-Wide Jewish-Masonic Conspiracy thingy, don't ya know....?

In the words of C.S. Lewis, "If the Patagonians think [him] a dwarf, and the Pygmies a giant, perhaps [his] stature is, in fact, fairly unremarkable."

I've often wondered if Novus Ordo Watch is run by a slightly naughty seminarian, cleverly mocking the rad trads.

Mark, I have a question for you. Why do you mention the Norvus Ordo Watch people at all? These poor people should be ignored. Every time you post something about them you just give them publicity.

I think it's fairly obvious who the "brains" behind N.O. Watch is.

Anyway, isn't diversity grand? I see that N.O. Watch was also selected by the Library of Congress for "inclusion in the historic collection of Internet materials related to the death of Pope John Paul II and the election of a new Pope."

I ought to offer a Mass for this gang and send 'em a Mass card, too.

A good idea. However, I suspect the retort will be:

Novus Ordo "priest" offers "Mass" for N.O. Watch.

It's their problem if all they can think is that I am calling them to receive "Jesus".

I need to learn and apply more and more that priesthood does not equate simply serving the fan club.

Yes, it's a badge of honor, Mark. But I have been the subject of a three-part attack series in the REMNANT and a column in CATHOLIC FAMILY NEWS. See your NOW reference and raise you.

As one poster above asked, "Are these guys for real?" Mark, I'm with you: "May [our] every recption of the Eucharist fill [us] more and more with that Precious Jewish Blood." Shalom!

There must be many stories behind a hatred so palpable and sputtering as these pseudo-traditionalists rebels from Catholicism. It’s really not fair to call them radical traditionalists. It is certainly a misuse of the word radical.

One thing that the “Filth” (aka Catholic priest sex abuse crisis and episcopal cover-up) taught me is that very great sins inflict very great damage on some individuals resulting in very great hatred of the Church. In other cases very great weaknesses in the face of very great temptations results in very great and very ugly hatred of the Church and the things of God.

What terrible events transpired in the lives of these poor pseudo-traditionalists? Pray for them. Pray that they are delivered from the possession they are under.

Let's not forget that St. Peter himself was completely Jewish.
