The real problem is that that thought (MAYBE torture will get us what we want) has been let loose on a population whose civic moral reasoning has been formed by a relentless search for self esteem, by applying the logic of human rights struggles to perverse sexual practices, and dark warning of the need to repress the christianconservative enemy in the name of tolerance and freedom.

Obviously, armed with those tools of peretrating clarity, we can anticipate an appropriate, subtle, and nuanced policy concerning the treatment of people who have been captured in the course of attempts to kill us.

Now that the old morality of negative thinking has been thrown off, vast new horizons open before us.
