Applauding peace-loving Muslims intent on promoting a culture of life is both patriotic and Christian. Don't let the wing nuts tell you otherwise.

No doubt when these good Muslims have done their duty of jihad and have introduced sharia to the UK (as a recent poll indicated 40% of Muslims in the UK wish for) when they become the majority in several years, they will be equally ecumenical to Christians... NOT.
But hey, at least they'll outlaw abortion. God can draw good out of even the worst situations.

Muslim leaders in San Fran also spoke up a couple years back against that city's plan to institute gay marriage.
Painting Muslims with a broad brush has its limitations. A month or so ago, the Economist had an interesting article about a Sufi Muslim sect out of Senegal called Mourides. I recall that this branch is very different from the brand of Islam promoted by the wealthy, US ally called Saudi Arabia.

Mark,
Maybe it's time you did a book on evangilizing muslims. What you have here is a good example of what a priest you know recommended --if you want to evangilize people don't start by telling them what terrible sinners they are. Tell them where they are being holy. It's God's will that we should oppose abortion. Therefore we should gladly join with muslims to oppose it. It's a way of telling them when they are being holy.

Dear dpt,
There is boutique Islam (as the Economist highlighted) and then there is Islam: the real, get down and back to the origins, faithful to the traditional religion.
I don't think Mark wants anyone here applauding the protestantization of Islam (as he would not Catholicism). To find good in the existence and propogation of Islamic sects is not consistent thinking for an orthodox Catholic.
Please have Mark explain to you that protestantization is bad no matter what ground it roots its bad seed in.
Islam has a history of sucking the life out its sects - just ask Avicenna and Averroes.
