I think the review in First Things was by a Protestant. Not totally positive, but well-reasoned and fair. Raised some legitimate criticisms. (I'm Catholic and a PBXVI fan, btw.) |

Well, this Evangelical is in the midst of the book and has found it very good so far. I suppose it's possible that the main character dies at the end, but they'll probably find a way to bring him back for a sequel (they're a bit squirrelly on the date for this sequel, though) |

I'm still Anglican, and I love it (haven't finished it yet). Read the review in First Things, and thought it was more than a bit harsh - in the "I don't like the book because I wouldn't have written it that way" vein. |

Yeah, I wondered why the First Things review was looking so hard for things to criticize... then I saw at the end that the writer of the review has his own book coming out on the same subject and thought "That's why." |
