The Metro here in DC is full of people wearing scarlet letters. There are one thousand stocks on the Mall for publicly punishing sabbath violators. Drug store managers are paraded backwards down Constitution Avenue on donkeys for selling contraceptives. They are forced to wear dunce caps.

It's terrible.

I find the thought of torturing reprehensible, especially when as an intelligence officer (years ago), we were taught that a little kindness goes a long way in opening peoples mouths. If only the politicians would study reality instead of TV.

Funny how most pro-aborts are anti-death penalty. They'll defend scum of the earth criminals but not innocent unborn children....something wrong there...

By "scum of the earth" you mean those people who are also sons and daughters of God, and are also made in the image of, right?

It would do us well to safeguard the right to life wherever we can. There may be some cases where it is sadly necessary to take it, but as John Paul II observed, the times for a death penalty in today's society should be rare indeed. You can look up exactly how it put it in your Catechism.

"Scum of the earth" - unrepentant criminals convicted of heinous of crimes. I should have been clearer of my use of phrase. I applaud any prison conversions, but it is mysterious how so many people will defend and justify some of these criminals and their crimes.
