Or alternatively: The Oregonian is read by people who resent having had to join the Union in the first place.

I strongly disagree with #10.
It would imply that anyone still reads the Comical anymore. It has gotten so bad that I stopped reading even their food section, and I was the restaurant reviewer for the competition. I suppose that some people still read the Sunday Datebook, because it has every schedule you need to know in the Bay Area, but beyond that, I think they have even lost the fruit and nut constituency.

I loved this one! As much truth as wit, in my ever-so-humble estimation.
BTW, I read both the Boston Globe and the NYT regularly (and am a rabid devotee of the latter's crossword puzzles), so that should show you where I stand!
On the other hand, I also read the WSJ - but generally disregard the editorial pages ...
