The British version is better, if only because it's much pithier.

Hey! The Oregonian's not just for wrapping fish in...

...it makes good floor covering for training puppies or painting cabinets.

Or alternatively: The Oregonian is read by people who resent having had to join the Union in the first place.

So there.

... and the original encourages people to view the rest of "Yes, Minister".

("Not since the Watergate Tapes have the workings of government been so illumined.")

I strongly disagree with #10.

It would imply that anyone still reads the Comical anymore. It has gotten so bad that I stopped reading even their food section, and I was the restaurant reviewer for the competition. I suppose that some people still read the Sunday Datebook, because it has every schedule you need to know in the Bay Area, but beyond that, I think they have even lost the fruit and nut constituency.

I loved this one! As much truth as wit, in my ever-so-humble estimation.

BTW, I read both the Boston Globe and the NYT regularly (and am a rabid devotee of the latter's crossword puzzles), so that should show you where I stand!

On the other hand, I also read the WSJ - but generally disregard the editorial pages ...
