Anti-Catholicism is the last acceptable prejudice. |
I don't think Catholics realize how bad the situation is out there, especially in some circles. One internet site apparently started a story about the Supreme Court's recent abortion decision by dredging up the old canard about "taking marching orders from Rome." This was a favorite slander used against Catholics by the Know-Nothing and KKK anti-Catholic bigots. |
It's quite remarkable seeing all these so-called liberals screaming bloody murder, and issuing anti-Catholic slander, because women aren't able to have their mostly-born children's brains sucked out any more. It really puts politics in perspective. |

God Bless Bill Donohue! |
Ah, but has Rosie used the phrase: "Mackerel snappin ho's"? |
John, |
He's a raving loon who makes the Church look like it's run by halfwit bullyboys. He's also obscenely politically partisan - look at his kid-glove treatment of Hannity over the Enteneuer episode. If we want to combat anti-Catholicism, let's not have "representatives" who make reasonable people want to hurl. |
Like I say. He often doesn't know what he's talking about. But the best way to make him go away is to be louder for the Church than he is. |
Yes, because the best way to combat secularism is to engage in an all-Catholic battle of the bigmouths. Thanks, but no thanks. The Church needs better defenders, not louder ones. We have reason on our side. We don't need to resort to Mussulman hysterics. |
Two wrongs don't make one right. The fact that Bill O'Reilly is so popular is a real disgrace. |
I'm pretty much with Quod on this point. I heard that Donohue debated Christopher Hitchens and that Hitchens was the more polite and docile of the two. Afterwards, Catholics were coming up to Hitchens to apologize. I mean... Christopher Hitchens!! In-cre-di-ble. |
I know. He's an ignorant blowhard as often as not. I still can't help feeling affection for him. |
I have to say a wor din defense of Bill Donohue. He is taking on a thankless task that few others are willing to bother with. Yes, some of the issues are not that important; to me they may seem nitpicking (but then they said that to Rudy Guiliani about the squeegee men and other "lifestyle" crimes, but he was right - stop the little things and you create a culture where it is easier to stop big crimes). |
