"And we need somebody who’s got the heart—the empathy—to recognize what it’s like to be a young teenage mom. The empathy to understand what it’s like to be poor or African-American or gay or disabled or old—and that’s the criteria by which I’ll be selecting my judges. Alright?"
-Barack Obama

How splendid. Not only is Obama a "metaphysical force" with a "Tongue dipped in Unvarnished Truth," but he will appoint mind-readers to the Supreme Court. Now they'll be looking for emotional penumbras as well as constitutional ones.

"Thanks to all of you....and for men, who have enough sense to realize you are helping them"

Uttered without a trace of irony.

"Okay, so now for the last one is the teens. We talked a lot about teens and with—basically the loss of sex education in this country. Planned Parenthood Peer Educators have become like the Underground Railroad of Sex Education [laughter]. They’re the front lines giving kids information they can’t get anywhere else."
- Barack Obama

Equating slavery with randy teens is an odd comparison, no?
Anyone who thinks that teens have no access to sex info besides Planned Parenthood isn't living in American society.

"I am an original co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act which will provide money for comprehensive and medically accurate, age-appropriate sex education in the schools."

I wonder who determines what is "age-appropriate."

"At a time when a real war is being fought abroad they would have us fight cultural wars here at home. But I am absolutely convinced that culture wars are so nineties; their days are growing dark, it is time to turn the page. We want a new day here in America. We’re tired about arguing about the same ole’ stuff. [Applause] And I am convinced we can win that argument. If the argument is narrow, then oftentimes we lose. But if you ask everybody—you ask the most conservative person—do they want their daughters to have the same chances as men?, most will answer in the affirmative. The vast majority will answer in the affirmative."
- Barack Obama

Notice how the issue of gender equality is made synonymous with abortion? It's convenient that those who stand to lose the most from a cultural change want to pretend that there is no culture war. Is Obama assuming that when the war abroad is ended the cultural conflicts won't remain?

Here is a similar speech From Hilary.

One day, future generations will look back on us today, as they do today at the proponents of slavery and Nazism, and wonder how it was that we could allow such widespread slaughter, under our very noses...and what will be our answer? Millions are killed every year by abortion; and for what? 'Freedom'? 'Choice'?

Barack Obama, it seems, though, is quite happy about the whole thing. Apparently, just as for him rhetoric trumps substance, so too does rhetoric trump human life. What a messed-up world we live in...

I love Obama criticizing Justice Kennedy for not having enough evidence for something that Kennedy thought was "self-evident"

Above, John pointed out the quote that first struck me:

"Thanks to all of you at Planned Parenthood for all the work that you are doing for women all across the country and for families all across the country—and for men, who have enough sense to realize you are helping them, all across the country."

Yes, PP does help men. Men who want to keep out of jail for having unlawful sex with a minor. Because, as has been well-documented, PP instructs their customers - sorry, I mean patients - to lie about their situation so they can juke around laws in certain states & get an abortion.

Perverse. Thanks, Barack. You're helping to vicitimze women.

Congrats!

"[T]hat’s the criteria by which I’ll be selecting my judges. Alright?"

"My judges"? Since when are the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court supposed to be the personal property of and beholden to the will of the president who nominates them? The reason the Supremes were originally given lifetime appointments was to free them from special-interest pressure in interpreting the Constitution. Now they are not only Our Ruling Oligarchy but they are to be but marionettes dancing on the strings pulled by the president who selects them.

[rant]

Not to get hopelessly off-topic, but I used to think there never was a U.S. Civil War, only a War for Southern Independence. Now I know better: There has indeed been a U.S. Civil War, but it has been a long and bloodless one. It started in April 1865, but it has been fought ever since then by political factions, special interest groups, and federal functionaries vying for control of the reins of the federal government. And We the People of the several states have been at the dubious mercy of whichever group or person has had control of the reins at any one time.

[/rant]

uick P.S.: To be fair to Obama, he could be talking about all federal judges and not just the Supremes. Even so, the rest of the comments I made in response to his remark still apply.

Oops, that was supposed to be "quick," not "uick"....

I wonder who determines what is "age-appropriate."

100% guarantee that it does not mean parents in any way, shape, or form.

Shame on Obama. He's making Moloch proud.

Amy - that's why, as another poster said, his name should be Moloch Obama!

You all (or y'all) need to get involved in politics and do it right quickly.

All the energy put into calling Obama Moloch could be used in a campaign to try and persuade him of why the unborn deserve legal protection. He's not a demon; he's a man capable of reason. Work to convince him in a spirit of charity and hospitality.

Kyle -

I also have difficulty with those who refer to Obama as Moloch: he is, at best, a votary rather than the demon. At the same time, it is dangerous to imagine that all we need do is use our energy to "try and persuade him of why the unborn deserve legal protection." This is not just a difference of opinion. Though we must not call him evil, we also must not pretend that he is not engaged in choosing and doing real evil: He is engaged in killing infants in their mothers' wombs.

A dialogue over a nice cup of tea isn't what's needed but rather prayer, fasting, and engaging in political activity to defeat him which includes making certain others know about him by speaking the truth in love. Doing so never includes refusing to say that which is unpleasant or uncomfortable. We are not called to be nice.

The American Papist has a You Tube video that would also make Margaret Sanger very happy:

Drusilla,

Any success we have at establishing legal and political protections for the unborn will be fleeting unless we convince the bulk of the pro-choice movement of the correctness of our cause.

In addition to prayer, fasting, and political activity, dialogue over a nice cup of tea is exactly what we need!

Over 80% of Americans believe abortion should be legal under certain circumstances. You think we can keep abortion illegal given that statistic? I doubt it. What is needed is opening hearts and minds, and that means we do need to engage in discussion those in the pro-choice movement, particularly the leaders. Thing is, we also have to listen to them, for that is the only way they will listen to us.

I'm all in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade and outlawing abortion, but those will mean little in the long run if hearts and minds are not opened to the dignity of unborn life.

Calling pro-choice people Moloch or baby-killers is counter-productive; it closes them off to our message.

As long as Senator Obama insists on publicly extolling the glories of abortion and infanticide, I believe defenders of life are justified in striving to counter his evil message publicly. Editorial comments - "Moloch", etc. - are aimed not at the Senator, but at his audience: the people of the United States, who are constantly being told by the Senator that unless America continues to permit the destruction of children, then America will be destroying the lives of its women.

Some good news, though, folks. The reality is that if women who are faced with an unplanned pregnancy and are unsure what to do are supported by people who can and will help her in some way, they are much more likely to go ahead with the pregnancy. What that means is that you and I need to be prepared to provide support to such women, should the need arise. The more of us there are who will do this, the better. And that is one way we can make a difference.

Any success we have at establishing legal and political protections for the unborn will be fleeting unless we convince the bulk of the pro-choice movement of the correctness of our cause.

The slave-holders learned they could manage without slavery when their slaves were forcibly freed.

Yes, we need conversions, but conversions can come from legal victories as well as vice versa.

Mary nailed it!

Wow. Thanks Mark - this should be circulated among Catholics (and Orthodox, Evangelicals, etc.) who are enamored by all the "He'll bring folks together !" drivel. Makes for absolutely chilling reading in my book. Obama: the latest smiling face of the Brave New World ...

I wonder if he got any donations from scissor manufacturers?

He's not a demon; he's a man capable of reason. Work to convince him in a spirit of charity and hospitality.

Which is why, with regards to "LGBT" issues, he said he'd keep an "open ear" to those who "need to be convinced" of his positions (read: you and I who believe what the Church teaches regarding such matters).

I do not call Obama Moloch, but he *is* doing his darndest to make Moloch proud.

I know there is hope for everyone, but when someone tells me I "need to be convinced" that my beliefs are wrong, it raises red flags...and it's safe to assume Obama believes I "need to be convinced" about abortion, too. Because I'm just not PC enough for him.

Moloch Obama promised Planned Parenthood that he would ensure that the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) was passed. S 2020 FOCA of 2004 is evidently designed to provide that hospitals and pharmacies that refuse to provide abortions may be sued in civil court by the women who are refused. Catholic hospitals and pharmacies with consciences would then be sued literally out of existence.

Relevant Provisions:

4. (a) "It is the policy of the United States that every woman has the fundamental right to choose to bear a child, to terminate a pregnancy prior to fetal viability, or to terminate a pregnancy after fetal viability when necessary to protect the life or health of the woman. . . .

(c) CIVIL ACTION- An individual aggrieved by a violation of this section may obtain appropriate relief (including relief against a government) in a civil action."

Hello President Obama. (Or President Rodham Clinton, for that matter). . .

. . . Good-bye Catholic hospitals.

. . . Good-bye Catholic hospitals.

Good-bye Catholicism in general.

But he's for raising the minimum wage!!! That balances out his fanatical support for abortion, right? Right? Somebody ask Martin Sheen what we should do!

"Age-appropriate" sex-ed probably means something like this:
