Listening and reading the news this morning, I had a question:

What will happen when/if the inspectors don't find anything significant because there's nothing to find? Will those in our government who depend on there being somethings admit that there aren't? Or are they already too committed to the war drums to stop now?

#1 Why don't we look upon this time spent trying to find out at least some things about the goings on in Iraq for the sake of our guys if and when a war starts. Our intelligence is pretty bad as it is over there so hopefully it can use at least some of this effort so it won't be a total waste. Perhaps it can make future bombing more accurate or not involve a huge number of civilians. The more they know when war begins, the better.

#2 Even if considered successful to some degree, how long are these inspections supposed to go on? Are they gonna close up shop due to Saddam's "cooperation" after so long and not keep it going until his demise? There will have to be some sort of watchers there ad infinitum. If not, then it will just be a repeat of the past and we'll have to do it all over again.

There is a real possibility that there might not be a finding of "cheating" -- that is a violation of the UN resolutions by UNMOVIC.

Blix has a record.

The United States knows of, and has revealed, several pieces of evidence from satellites, defectors, transaction records, etc. to know that Iraq has committed violations. The need for inspections of to make the case in a more obvious way. For Iraq to attack aircraft patrolling the no-fly zone is a violation as well.

The thing to watch for is whether or not Saddam will let his nuke scientists and their families out of Iraq to be interviewd.
