Gravatar Maybe I'm crazy, but I would think that spring buying season would start when the weather got warmer and people actually one of the go out and look at houses.

I was also thing that the spring weather would make the house is more appealing with flowers and such.

Gravatar If the spring market started when the weather got warmer my Realtor friends up in da UP of Michigan wouldn't get started until June! eh

Gravatar Yeah I don't think anyone is thinking housing that isn't in the housing industry right now. Besides, who cares when it starts...let's talk about where the best deals are to be had!

Gravatar Hey guy be sure to check out our Forum at http://www.illinoisrealestate.com/forum/. Phil lets start a thread on the best deals to be had.

Gravatar Hey Brian, each ensuing year since my first in 2000 the 'Spring Market' has seemed to arrive earlier and earlier--or in other words, was upon me before I expected it. I believe it begins for me though, when I become anxious to take my 'Spring Listings.' And this usually begins in mid to late February and runs through mid-June.

Gravatar I certainly noticed a real push right after the first of January lasting until around the 20th on the North Shore. Then as the Bears won their division and the weather got frigid everything slowed - I think the weather was the bigger deal. I heard an interesting thing recently and that is that company bonuses - big and small are typically handed out around the second week of February. It's an interesting thought and might be worth looking to see if it causes anything to happen. This was an expert who presented this at a seminar. He said he tells his sellers to wait to list until then. As far as the first comment about waiting for flowers to bloom in Chicago for a spring market to get started - you may be new to the area. Flowers don't bloom here until late May or early June when the grass starts to get green again. Can't wait for that!

Gravatar Here in Philadelphia, I always find that the spring market starts after the Super Bowl.
Almost like clock work.
What is interesting though, is when it ends. It used to be that the spring market would end at Memorial Day, then pick back up on Labor Day. In the past few years though, I have seen the market continue through Labor Day, then DIE in early September.
