Murmur, Instigate, CLAMOR!!

Gravatar But, but, she has a vagina and makes policy decisions based on what she thinks god tells her. Her teenage daughter is pregnant, thus making her a hero to the right. That's all we need to know. /snark

Gravatar I've applied my rudimentary skills to add an image at the top of the post. And Karol, you don't want to get me going on the subject of people who claim to be 'just doing the will of God.' I'm currently reading The Handmaid's Tale. The best quote I can give you without risking a spoiler is this:

" There is more than one kind of freedom, said Aunt Lydia. Freedom to and freedom from. In the days of anarchy, it was freedom to. Now you are being given freedom from. Don't underestimate it. "

I'll stick with my freedom to, thank you very much. And cake, please.

Gravatar Maybe living next door to Siberia reinforces her idea that she doesn't have to answer questions because . . . well, all that Siberian cultural refusnik stuff and all . . . she's an underground KGB sovietskaya aparatchik. Da?

Gravatar Well, at least she's not skank. Not low enough on the totem pole for Bill Clinton to chase after....

Gravatar Maybe field-dressing a moose has given her the background that she needs to revitalize a moribund economy.

What's that you say? The object of field-dressing a moose ISN"T to bring the clumsy boreal ruminant back to life? <Emily Litella> Never mind then. </Emily Litella>

Gravatar Poor Busboy!

Hi all.

Will the Democrats have the necessary resolve to confront this self-proclaimed bitch and kick her to the trash?

Or not...

Gravatar Pile her on top of Hillary? Not a smart move....

Gravatar The dress would clash with the pantsuit.....

[-Gregory Lyons | 09.06.08 - 6:34 pm -]

I don't know Gregory. With even the Republicans running against the incredibly unpopular Republicans you'd think that the Democrats would clue in and at least follow suit. They might even point out to the public that even the Republicans don't want to be Republicans anymore. As I have done, as the New York Times has done, as Arianna Huffington has done, as The Daily Show has done...

The only people who aren't repudiating the Republican party seem to be the utterly and irrevocably disconnected - like Busboy.

Gravatar I don't think either party has the best interests of the people at heart. However, Obama, setting up his little "communist cells" as a community organizer is scary as hell. Investor's business daily finally blew the whistle on him and Michelle.

Gravatar Oh yes, be very very afraid of Obama.

Better yet, have a laugh at Bus(h)boy's expense.

It does of course ofren seem that the Democrats are paid to lose votes and elections to the Republicans, as Ralph Nader has often pointed out.

Gravatar Wachootalkinbout busboy? Communist cells? WTF is an international corporation if not a collective of capital organized in a totalitarian fashion? Have you bought into the idea that people with money are better than everyone else? Cause if you have I would submit that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to be American.

"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital.
Capital is only the fruit of labor,
and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed.
Labor is superior to capital,
and deserves much the higher consideration."

-- Abraham Lincoln

Is there some part of that that you don't understand? Because I'm willing to explain it to you.

Gravatar Don't you realize that for five and a half years John McCain didn't have the option of making a poor choice for running mate?

Gravatar Btw, I just watched the film version of The Handmaid's Tale. I'd say don't waste your time on it.

Gravatar [Yo SBT - the submit URL is busted to recommend on Reddit.]

Palin is just beyond the pale really. And the continuing use of music/intellectuall property without these artists permission is ghastly. Not the end of the world mind you, but it just goes to show that these peopl DO NOT MIND STEALING IN THE LEAST.

Gravatar Thanks UC, I forgot to enter the URL in the code. It's fine now.

Gravatar Palin also belonged to the America-hating Alaska first party (Alaska Independent Party?).

Somewhere, perhaps that interview a month or two ago where she said that when people ask her about her prospects of being the VP, no one could tell her what the VP does from day to day, she said that she'd have to see how being VP would benefit Alaska. In other words, she wasn't interested in the good of the nation, just the good of Alaska. (And just a select part of Alaska, obviously.)

Gravatar The object of field dressing a moose is to remove the shitty parts prior to consumption.

Ever READ that New Testament, Busboy? Jesus was the ultimate communist, in case you never noticed. "Go and sell all your riches and give them to the poor...."

As someone pointed out here the other night, Jesus was a community activist, Pilate was a governor.

Gravatar Oh, and Nosy wants a bumper sticker:

Put Lipstick on a Pit Bull and you Still Have a Dog.

Gravatar A letter from a Wasillan(?) about Sarah Palin:

http://www.thepresidentialcandid...e-kilkenny/741/

Gravatar Bear, I think the hate in your mind is screwing up your thought processes. At least you aren't promissing to move to another country if McCain/Palin wins...

Gravatar So when Jon Stewart had that list of McCain's class on last night's show, was that an authentic list? Does anyone know what the names of those ranked just above and below him were?

Gravatar And the continuing use of music/intellectuall property without these artists permission is ghastly. Not the end of the world mind you, but it just goes to show that these peopl DO NOT MIND STEALING IN THE LEAST.Unconventional Conventionist | Homepage | 09.06.08 - 7:22 pm | #

UC, anyone can use copywritten music as long as you pay the "scale" when the auditors come. It's part of the deal when the artists turn their music into the "public/private trough...

Gravatar Hate in whose mind? Want to tell me what Jesus said about riches over and over?

Gravatar By the way, Busboy, your rhetorical tactic is called diversion, generally used when one doesn't have the facts to continue an argument to a successful conclusion. At that point their only recourse is to divert, generally to an ad-hominem attack on the other.

Right-wing tactics straight from the Karl Rove playbook.

Gravatar pusboy said,

Well, at least she's not skank. Not low enough on the totem pole for Bill Clinton to chase after....

Actually, Clinton didn't spend much time at the Springer studios, which is where you'll find St. Sarah's family.

Gravatar Good one JR!

I think BushBot might be a little testier than usual, since the Commies have taken over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The conservatorship that will result will leave major stockholders with very little, and the existing management will be given the heave-ho. They should count themselves lucky, in Japan they would have been invited to commit hari-kari.

Gravatar Be kind to Busboy, his world-view has been stood on end by McCains failures, the takeover of Freddie and Fannie, the fact that the bikini pics of Palin flying around the internet were faked....

Gravatar Non-sequitur mode: ON

Best comment I've seen elsewhere over the last couple of days: Sarah Palin is like Ann Coulter in a woman's body.

heh heh.

Gravatar [Well, at least she's not skank.]

Skankiness is relative. I think I heard that Donald Rumsfeld offered McCain this sage advice: "You don't always go to the White House with the skank you want. You go to the White House with the skank you've got."

Gravatar Ellie, wasn't that, "...the skank you can afford?"

Gravatar Something like that, Nosy. I was paraphrasing. Something I saw, you know, somewhere on the internets.

Gravatar Don't let the pics and video from today's Colorado Springs rally fool you: They're so red down there the Russians have tried to claim them. El Paso county, Colorado Springs, is GOPerville, USA.

I wonder if Pastor Ted was in the crowd? Dobson was, I'm certain....

Gravatar Nosy's correct. It doesn't get much redder than C-springs.

And with that, dear rulies, I bid all of you un buen noche.

Gravatar Night, Ellie!

Gravatar Hmm, stay home and start some much delayed cleaning, or put it off and go spend the night across town, where I am housesitting for someone?

I suppose John McCain earned me that choice. . .

Gravatar Okay, check out the caption for the picture here:

The Wasilla Bible Church sign sits by the road in front of the church in Wasilla, Alaska Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008. The Wasilla church where Democratic vice presidential candidate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, attends is promoting a program that promises to convert homosexuals to heterosexuals through the power of Jesus Christ and prayer. (AP Photo/Al Grillo)

Do local papers caption pictures, or does the AP do it? Is this like when Fox identifies Republican child molesters as Democrats?
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/ na...palin_gays.html

Gravatar Ah, that would be AP.

Gravatar CNN also sucks. Go to the link at the TPM page.

Gravatar [-tireiron chef | Homepage | 09.06.08 - 10:53 pm-]

The last two weeks of the campaign FOX "news" will consistently identify Obama and Biden as Republicans and McCain and Palin as Democrats. They're already well on their way to carrying out this plan.

Didn't you say a couple of days ago Nosy that the lawn signs in Texas don't even have the word Republican on them anywhere? Man, they are counting on an epic epidemic of amnesia in the American electorate.

Gravatar Sad, in Texas they do but not in Colorado. We're handing out a voter guide so our people can tell who's who.

Gravatar They know if she opens her mouth to a questioning reporter - the campaign is toast!

Gravatar In Washington state, many Repugs, including the guy running for governor, is identifying himself as a member of the "GOP Party."

Gravatar Hmm. That sentence sure went off-course. . .

Gravatar I would so love to be a reporter given the first interview with either McCain or Palin after the RNC. Especially McCain.
My first question:
"Senator, you droned on and on about how you were going to confront the Washington insiders if elected. You DO know that you are a Washington insider yourself, don't you?"

Gravatar OT, but Boeing workers are on strike.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/ bu...ngstrike06.html

Gravatar No, the first question is to ask him to compare Palin's breasts to Cindy's now and when Cindy was Palin's age.

Gravatar Oh, and use the word "tits" instead of "breasts."

I bet if someone asked him that in a crowd, his first reaction would be to smile. So make sure there are cameras.

Gravatar I hope those are firecrackers going off outside....

Gravatar They are. I wonder what the celebration is?

Gravatar Sad, I read the Hand Maiden's Tale many years ago. Scariest book I have ever read. Truly, it gave me nightmares for months.

Gravatar Chef, go straight for the gutter: Hooters. Or ask how influential Palin's rack, and not the one over the fireplace, was in her selection as VP candidate.

Gravatar Hi, Nosy, chef, Sad and Robert.

Gravatar Hi, K! How's it going?

Gravatar Go out and pick up a program called "Stumble". It points you to random websites according to a profile you put in. It's educational: I never imagined how much unadulterated crap there is in cyberspace.

Gravatar Unruly Alert !

Why isn't this more in the public? A quick check _ as good as the vetting of 'what's her name' _ appears this is factual.

32 videos? wow

Gravatar It's hotter than hell here in Fresno. I am ready for fall.

Gravatar We're getting nice fall weather. Predicted high tomorrow is 69°.

Gravatar I saw that video, Joe. It seems the vets are not all on board with McCain.

Gravatar It's still 95 degrees here.

Gravatar It got up to 103 today.

Gravatar Nor is, apparently, most of the military on board with McCain (or the republicans any more). I read somewhere that donations from deployed soldiers are running about 6:1 for Obama with Democratic registration among them far outpacing Republican....

Seems the myth of Republican superiority on national defense is coming to an end as well.

Gravatar It's very warm, but not as hot as a month ago here. The earlier sunsets are somewhat depressing.

Hi Karol.

Gravatar What kind of security clearance do you get if you run for President or Vice-President?

Gravatar Well, Sarah can thank God she's white. Can you imagine how the democrat misogynists would be going after her if they had nominated Condi as VP?

Gravatar You can literally see everything. Although there are practical limits - they don't get to see "operational" type stuff.

Gravatar Busboy, we would be talking about her shoes, not her color. Get with it, buddy.

Gravatar This I would like:

As if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't have enough troubles with the state's $17.2 billion budget mess, now comes word that there may be a move afoot to recall him.

Well-placed Sacramento sources tell us the state's politically powerful and well-financed prison guards union has lawyers drawing up language for a recall initiative.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/ar.../ BAT312P1M6.DTL

Gravatar The weather was much color in Germany. It was hard to come back to this heat.

Gravatar Busboy, do you have ANY facts at your disposal?

Gravatar chef, I don't think California will do a recall on the governor. He hasn't been too bad since the bloody nose he got for the special election a couple years ago.

Gravatar In fact, Arnold is turning into a rather tolerable Republican. I wouldn't vote for him but from what we get here, he's not doing all that badly.

Gravatar Sorry, ms Karol; didn't know about the schooze.
California is a basket case financially. Arnold should allow the state to be incorporated into Mexico so that the debt obligations could be erased. Kind of a "chapter 7 secession declaration".

Gravatar Well Karol, maybe some sunshine needs to be allowed to shine on this.

After years of haggling, haranguing and hard, hard work, the Missing Service Personnel Act of 1996 became the law of the land. Unfortunately, before the ink on the paper had a chance to dry, Senator John McCain, the unrelenting MOC who will not permit any pro-issue, pro-family or pro-POW legislation to stand, turned Capitol Hill on its head while he stalked the hallways and pounded on doors. He proffered the McCain Amendment which castrated the MSPA 1996, leaving it in a shamble. Once again, we must ask ourselves, Whose Side Is This Guy On?

Gravatar Busboy, do you have ANY facts at your disposal?
Nosybear ACP Demon | Homepage | 09.07.08 - 12:04 am | #
You bet. What do you want backed up? Thought we were over that grade school crap...

Gravatar Better idea for California: Secede. Then the world's fourth-largest economy can join the ranks of the world's progressive states. I'd move there under those conditions....

Imagine California not having to live according to the same Federal laws as, say, Mississippi.

Gravatar " Sad, I read the Hand Maiden's Tale many years ago. Scariest book I have ever read. Truly, it gave me nightmares for months. "

[-Karol | 09.06.08 - 11:45 pm-]

With an ultra-fundamentalist in with a chance of becoming the President of the United States, it's a lot scarier. I find things that could happen a lot scarier than things that aren't going to. I didn't even find the Aliens series that frightening.

Oddly I've never read anything by Margaret Atwood, one of Canada's most prominent authors. Nor by her friend and fellow author Margaret Laurence, whose home was a block away from where I now live.

Gravatar You start... Wanna go two out of three on economics?

Gravatar The above is the Advocacy & Intelligence Index for POWs and MIAs archives.

They are def. not a political site and the article was from 1996.

Wow, John McCain was a traitor.

http://www.aiipowmia.com/

Gravatar Sad, I've read two of Atwood's works, "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Oryx and Crake." The latter is an allegory of a post-apocalyptic world and a pretty good read. No where near the same class as "Handmaid".

Gravatar I'll take Engineering for four hundred....

Gravatar California still has very conservative orange county. Maybe we can give Orange to Texas.

Gravatar Nah, K, give THEM to Mexico.

Gravatar Anyone who wants to know why feminists fight the Fundies, all they have to do is read Handmaiden.
Pretend feminists like Palin have their own part in the story.

Gravatar Bear, my post of 12:08 and yours of 12:10 were identical. We basically think alike on economic matters. If one of your previous posts was meant as a challenge? Then, I accept. I'm not an ideologue, just a wildcatter living by my wits. What's the first question?

Gravatar What's the historical effect of tax reductions on employment?

Gravatar When my taxes are reduced, I hire more people.

Gravatar Ya, Busboy, we seen the effects of trickle down under Bush. The companies are making record profits while people are losing their homes. Try again.

Gravatar Or better, define misogyny.

The problem is you write these sarcastic little hits with no facts to back them up. Tell me how Democrats are misogynist and, as you implied, are all Democrats misogynist? My experience has been that there's more misandry than misogyny in the Democratic party - see the PUMAs. Your quote:

"Can you imagine how the democrat misogynists would be going after her if they had nominated Condi as VP?"

Gravatar Busboy | 09.07.08 - 12:21 am | #

How many people work for you?

Gravatar we have seen.... I sound like my students. lol

Gravatar " When my taxes are reduced, I hire more people. "

[-Busboy | 09.07.08 - 12:21 am-]

People in China making contaminated toys don't count. What's really hit the US economy hard is the simultaneous application of Reagan's 'trickle down' theories (which didn't work anyway,) and globalization, which doesn't really make for freer trade as much as it allows the flow of capital to the least regulated labor markets.

Gravatar Busboy, perhaps, but in the overall economy reducing taxes takes away jobs. Here's how it works:

The Government takes in money in the form of taxes. In traditional economy, this is seen as a drag on the economy but what should be accounted for is the fact that all of the money taken in is given back out. Roads get built, and schools. Those people in turn need Starbucks and lunches....

Reducing taxes generally doesn't reduce the size of the Federal bureaucracy, only the projects. Instead of building roads, the road builders are unemployed, forcing layoffs at Starbucks....

Taxes do not place a drag on the economy, they redirect income. While I have mixed feelings on business taxes, our competitors have shown that tax rates much higher than ours have little effect on employment, innovation, or economic growth.

Gravatar Current project: about 1 mil capital expenditure. About 20 people employed for a month. That's just a guess. Don't know what the "ripple effect" is.

Gravatar Speaking of housing, I am going to my realtor's tomorrow morning to sign a contract that came in on my big house. I only lost 300,000 on it. And, after a year, I'm hoping the contract goes through.
I am loving this economy.

Gravatar Busboy | 09.07.08 - 12:27 am | #

Ok

How many people did you employ in 2000?

Gravatar Dang, you have a lot of free time for a tycoon. And "just a guess" how many employees you have? Doesn't sound like any business owner I know. Want to give me a name of the business so I can Google it?

Gravatar How many people did you employ in 2000?
-Joe, Inc. | 09.07.08 - 12:28 am | #

None, except myself and wife. Total salaries $4000.00. The oil biz was in the pits and we were hunting for grocery money.

Gravatar Sorry about my previous comment Busboy. Maybe YOU use the money from tax cuts to hire Americans, but that hasn't been the way the multinationals have been playing the game. And remember, when you reduce taxes on multinationals you're reducing taxes on their foreign stockholders as well as people in the US. It doesn't seem that smart to me for the US govt to be handing even more money to the House of Saud in the form of tax breaks.

[-Nosybear ACP Demon | Homepage | 09.07.08 - 12:26 am-]

Good point. The money is going to be spent somewhere, it's really a matter of whether you want elected officials spending it on the general welfare or boardroom dwellers spending it on narrow self-interest.

Gravatar Karol, I feel your pain. We built our house in 1978 and it was worth less in 1996 then we paid for it. We stayed here because there was nowhere better to go. Hope you've got your finances figured out.

Gravatar Why is it so much more effective in America to depict Big Government as a threat than Big Business? At least you have some opportunity to direct and monitor the behaviour of the former. You can't do squat about things that business does that you don't like.

Gravatar Okay, you haven't been in business that long.

I would argue that company which were in business and received the largest tax breaks ever _ and much to Nosy's chagrin I'm a living corporation _ in fact did not use those credits to hire additional Americans. For my proof, just look at the jobs report for this period in 2000 and the latest reported period, ummm just the other day when the market tanked.

So, being as intelligent as you are, why don't you just come in from the darkness and enjoy the party. No one wants to be outside and alone.

Gravatar I am fine, Busboy. Thank you. I am one of the fortunate ones. I could take the hit without going completely under. I feel for those that have to file for bankruptcy. It's bad here.

Gravatar Joe, nothing against it! In the current regulatory environment, it's probably the smart thing to be.

Sad, it comes from classical economics. In that science, Government is seen as the big bad guy, siphoning off money and placing regulations on the free market. Problem is the free market isn't and never was - it fails under lack of competition or necessity - you have to have medical treatment, you won't defer it until prices go down and you won't avoid getting it, for example. That's a market failure. Another is information asymmetry, when one side of a transaction has information the other doesn't....

Markets fail so often they're almost useless as an indicator yet we still go on as if the "free market" could somehow regulate everything.

Gravatar Karol, my sympathies.... Canvassing, it's amazing to me how many houses are standing empty and the Denver market hasn't been hit all that hard.

Gravatar My company has been in business since 1974, Joe. It has provided jobs for thousands of people. There are ups and downs in every business cycle. We're up now. We will be down again. I remember when the windfall profit tax went into effect and taxed all oil revenues over 15 dollars a barrel at 85%. We totally ceased all operations. Planted a huge garden. Got one of the kids into college, the rest had to borrow all the money.

Gravatar Nosy, it's amazing out here. The few people actually looking to buy are coming in hundreds of thousands under the mortgage. It's painful. I am just happy that I had my own house before I got married. I had renters in it.

Gravatar Busboy, you're a geologist aren't you? The 80s were rough on geologists in Colorado when I was living there.

Gravatar Busboy | 09.07.08 - 12:43 am | #

Thousands of direct jobs or indirect jobs?

Gravatar I got mine before the great Denver run-up. Prices were high then but not so terribly high. So I'm still in the black as far as the house goes. I have no sympathy for those who used their houses as ATMs, nor do I have sympathy for those who went out and got loans they couldn't afford knowingly. The ones I pity are the marginal homeowners who saw a dream and went for it, only to have the market go sour and the prices adjust to the point they couldn't pay for it. I realize it's "part of the cycle" but it's painful to see a house that's turned three times in the past year because families can't afford to live there.

Gravatar I don't think this is much of a spoiler for The Handmaid's Tale, but deep in the book, we find out that what happened was that the Congress and the President were all killed (Congress was machinegunned) and the blame was placed on Islamic fanatics. The assassinations led to the suspension of the Constitution.

Gravatar The '80s saw the oil shale boom go bust. It's starting to boom again and yet our state has mandated 20% renewable energy in the next few years. We learned. Conventioneers saw a large solar farm in front of DIA (and behind that hideous blue horse) that powers the airport. I believe energy independence lies in diversity of sources and conservation and that an additional 1% added to supply by drilling everywhere a dike will fit is not the way for us to go forward.

Gravatar When I bought the big house, it was just before the big land grab in California - Those who bought their houses when prices were high really got fucked.
From the time I bought the house, it went up three hundred thousand and down six.
Not all had seconds or thirds on their homes. I, too, don't have too much sympathy for them.

Gravatar Time for some William Gibson, then bed. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 69° so I hope to get in at least a 40-mile ride....

Night, Unrulies! Keep the barricades manned....

I'm not too concerned about spoiler alerts and such. My motives for reading go beyond just finding out what happens next. Besides so far as I've gotten into it The Handmaiden's Tale is a book of ideas more than events. Atwood's prose style is unique I must say, there's an elegant simplicity in the language. It's quite compelling.

There are bunches of books I've read more than once and I'm sure I didn't read them the second time to find out how they turned out. I've got a pretty good memory.

Gravatar hey peeps!
Some good insight into the workings of the criminal mind here:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ le...p_b_122736.html

"...My suspicion is that the McCain campaign doesn't really care that Palin undermines McCain's case for experience, because they're not planning to use that argument anymore.
The McCain campaign is going to trot Palin out whenever they need to make the case that they feel America's pain. They're going to contrast her story to Obama's, and even to Biden's (not the part about being a scrappy kid from Scranton, but the part about being in the Senate for a million years). They're going to have her stick relentlessly to her personal biography, and avoid at all costs any discussion of policy. And whenever any Democrat attacks her for being inexperienced, they're going to turn to working class voters and ask why all these Harvard-educated, pointy-headed know-it-alls think that they know better how to help working families than a woman who worked her way through a demanding career while raising five kids, stayed married to her hard-working husband, and was so successful that she became a governor and then a VP nominee.

We're best off not taking that bait."

Gravatar I should have posted the entire quote:

Gravatar SBT,

Gravatar Yes they are, my dear. They are lovely.

Gravatar [-Amerikagulag | 09.07.08 - 1:23 am-]

Arianna had a great essay today about how the Democrats would be better off just pretending that Palin doesn't exist, and concentrate on McCain.
McCain is Running on the Amnesia Platform...
I agree, belatedly. I've already written my last two posts about Caribou Barbie. Three if you count a shorty I put up at Suzie-Q.

Gravatar I cannot stand Sarah Palin because the republicans are trying to defy the rules of logic with her. She is feminist because she is a woman against the rights of women. Women for abolishing women's rights! CAN I GET AN AMEN, SISTER??!!

I can't stand that.

Bullshit, mooseshit, it stinks all the same.

Gravatar I love the language itself Jump. The vocabulary, the syntax, the grammar. Every author has their own approach and it's like a way to experience that person's mind at work. There are so many levels that you can read a good book that go beyond the characters and events of the narrative.

Gravatar Caribou ca-ca...

Gravatar Absolutely, SBT.

Don't mean to scare you; but, the Busboy agrees...

Gravatar Are you talking about mind writing again?

Gravatar I gotta say, Palin's become a distraction from the idiot and I'm sure he loves that rest from having to think.

Gravatar It's amazing to me how the Republicans can make black into white and white into black. Change worked for Obama so McCain is for change. Palin is an anti feminist, so she is a feminist. Obama does not have the experience, so Palin does. Amazing they aren't laughed out of the country.

Gravatar One wonders why the right hasn't jumped on Joe "I'm a zionist" Biden like the left has Moosehead Palin. Though I suspect I know the answer.

Gravatar SBT,
Heh heh heh.
I think it's possible. And, it feels good.

Actually, photography is like that for me. It lets me see things through someone else's lens, and it's very intimate. You see all sorts of things looking at what other people see. I never imagined until I experienced it, how much there was to see, to learn, to discover, seeing how another sees. It's very wonderful.

It connects us. I think there's something to connecting us. I don't know what, but I think it's there.

Gravatar Busboy, you're a geologist aren't you? The 80s were rough on geologists in Colorado when I was living there.
Karol | 09.07.08 - 12:50 am | #

Yeah, it was like the dust bowl. If you had a mortgage or any kind of debt, the banks or county or state took all your assets.

Gravatar Pitbulls have been banned in the province of Ontario, after several deaths of small children and many more people of all ages being severely injured. People who currently own the animals are allowed to keep them but they cannot breed them, and they are not allowed out of the owner's house without a muzzle.

On a personal note I dated this woman a couple times but not after the first time I went to her home and found out she owned a pit bull. It wasn't overtly agressive towards me or anything, but when I found out that it slept on her bed - - dealbreaker.

Gravatar Yes, Gulag,

I am sick to freakin death of hearing about such an unqualified candidate. So I blab on and on about it. I know. It's a sick irony. That kind of ill-prepared candidate doesn't deserve the time.

Gravatar SBT,
I once dated a guy who had a cat, and when he and I were "intimate", the cat would stalk me and take a good hard bite out of my toes. Multiple occasions. I hated that damn cat.

Gravatar It's the old Republican tactic of hip-mo-tizin' you. "Look, over here! Something shiny!"

Gravatar I 've had experiences with pitbulls and in the main, their untrustworthy and dangerous. Their mean streak comes from their territorial tendencies. Someone I know who raised them (not for fighting, but pulling) had 2. He said, you can come in my house anytime, just don't try to leave unless I give you the ok.

Gravatar [-Jump | Homepage | 09.07.08 - 1:39 am-]

Well you'll have to stop spreading pate on your toes.

Gravatar Thousands of direct jobs or indirect jobs?
-Joe, Inc. | 09.07.08 - 12:50 am | #

Mostly indirect, Joe. I'm not a big personality or anything; I just start the ball rolling. Sometimes it's a gutterball. Sometimes it turns into a big deal.

Gravatar It was all about breaking the steam roll from the Dem convention with Obama looking exceptionally electable. INTERRUPT THAT MEME, DAMMIT, AT ANY COST! EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO USE A WOMAN!!!!!

Gravatar I'm not a cat-person. Cats don't have owners, they have 'wait staff'.

Gravatar Did someone say fishheads?

Gravatar SBT,
The cat was a very insecure dominant, and well, she suffered mightily. Oh well...

Gravatar " Cats don't have owners, they have 'wait staff'. "

[-Amerikagulag | 09.07.08 - 1:42 am-]

Too true - but they can become quite fond of their household servants.

Gravatar "Yeah, it was like the dust bowl. If you had a mortgage or any kind of debt, the banks or county or state took all your assets."

Yes, Busboy, my daddy was five or six when they "Grape of Wrathed" their way to California.

Gravatar Jump
But it wasn't just an interruption. They did it deliberately and chose HER not in desperation, but for some other underhanded reason. It's just not apparent yet.

Gravatar Gulag,
This cat fancied herself as a person, and all the other cats as pets. She was a real piece of work, that one.

Hi, Chef!!

Gravatar I'm not a cat-person. Cats don't have owners, they have 'wait staff'.
Amerikagulag | 09.07.08 - 1:42 am | #

Hey!, Gulag, you just outed yourself. You quoted Rush Limbaugh! I thought "Operation Chaos" only assigned one agent to each liberal blog....

Gravatar Gulag,
I think she was a choice with multiple desirable outcomes for the wicked conmasters. Yes, interruption was but one positive outcome.

Gravatar quite fond of their household servants.
SadButTrue | Homepage | 09.07.08 - 1:44 am |

I would too, if someone were to tend to my every need and scoop my crap out of a box and I don't even have to tell them they're in danger when someone's breaking in! Nice work if you can get it.

I had 2 dogs one died of old age, the other was an unruly and unfortunately met an untimely death in the road outside. They're both buried out in the woods where they love to roam. No more animals for me.

Gravatar interruption was but one positive outcome.
Jump | Homepage | 09.07.08 - 1:46 am | #

My life experience is that interruption is not a good option when interfacing with women.... just sayin...

Gravatar Karol,
That "grapes of wrath" route was a hard trail. Really, really. What a story. What a reality. What a journey.

Gravatar Cats kill mice, and that's something.

And my cat is a real sweetheart of a guy.

Gravatar Busboy, I have NEVER listened to that fatass and I never will. It's bad enough to hear what comes out of the mouths of those who do. If he said it, you can bet it's plagiarized.

Gravatar My dad used to quote Rush. What a mess that was. Poor dad.

Gravatar Cats tend to kill for the sport. I'm not fond of that aspect of their personalities either. Though one outside is just fine to keep mice from getting in. When they're ferule, they tend to serve a purpose in keeping small vermin at bay.

Gravatar Bottom line is that Sarah Palin is an element in an overall Republican strategy that would have no chance of success without the co-operation of the Lamestream Media. None. They only pull this shit because they know they can.

She's refusing to give any interviews until a time suitable to her? The LaMe (my new abbreviation) should, if they had any journalistic integrity, simply refuse to cover the entire McCain/Palin campaign until she changes her mind. No coverage of them or their surrogates. Give the time thus freed up to Obama, Biden and the rest of the Democrats.

They'd come around in hours.

Gravatar Jump, my dad told me stories about the trip. There were ten kids - one stayed behind. All of them in one car. It broke down at the border of California and my grandfather had to prove he had a job waiting for him. That was American at that time.

Gravatar Yes, Busboy, my daddy was five or six when they "Grape of Wrathed" their way to California.
Karol | 09.07.08 - 1:44 am | #

Mom and dad do what they have to when the family's at stake. People are worried about climate change? Look at the dust bowl years and ask what you would do if that recurred.

Gravatar OMG, Karol.
You should write it up. Do the research and all. It's such a story, and at the very least would have tremendous meaning to your family. It's good to learn about the things we can't imagine.

Gravatar Sarah Palin is an element in an overall Republican strategy that would have no chance of success without the co-operation of the Lamestream Media. None.
~SBT

I agree with this assertion 100%.

The batshit crazy media is part of the dance.
/hurl

Gravatar Those people who say she has international policy experience because "Alaska is so close to Russia" sound like complete idiots on crack.

I'm sorry--no I'm not--idiots.

Gravatar Jump; I understand where you're coming from(not agreeing). Answer this: Where is Joe Biden? In rehab??

Gravatar John McCain is a vapid vacuous candidate with nothing going for him.

Gravatar If we had the same media that existed in Nixon's time Dubya would be serving a life sentence by now, and Cheney would be hiding in a spider-hole of undisclosed location. There would still be two political parties - the Democrats, but WAY to the left of where they are now and a new party somewhat to the left of the Democrats.

Gravatar John McCain and his desperate campaign...

He suffers so, with the desperation thing.

Gravatar Agree, SBT.
It rhymes.

Gravatar Jump? How come you're better at politics than Biden or Obama? What the hell are they afraid of? Why don't they attack?

Gravatar "....The batshit crazy media is part of the dance...."

They're the makeup artists for the theater. That big Saturday night playhouse more affectionately known as 'elections'.

People attend and are treated to an imaginary production with rehearsed lines and props. They're pulled into the seeming reality of it all. But eventually the curtain drops and they leave the theater, go back to reality and the actors return to the back rooms to remove their costumes and party amongst themselves. It's a production every 4 years and alternately every 2 years.

One of my favorite lines is, "Healthcare, Social Security, Jobs".

Gravatar Busboy,
I'm not in the mood to talk to you. OK? I'm just not. Have a great night. It's funny when we agree.

Gravatar Amerikagulag | 09.07.08 - 2:02 am | #

Gravatar Too funny, Sad

Gravatar If we had the same media as during Nixon's time, Bush would never have become President.

Gravatar OK, I have to go to bed. Sleepiness makes a persuasive argument...

Good night to All (even busboy).

Gravatar Hey, Jump. S'ok. If I didn't appreciate your insight? I wouldn't be here. I'm just a stranger in a strange land. Carry on as usual. I will; until banned....

Gravatar Good night, Jump. Until later.

Gravatar Goodnight Doc. Pleasure seeing you again.

Gravatar Busboy,
You are so scary when you agree with me.
Be nice; play fair; have fun.
See you later.

Gravatar

Dreamy.

Gravatar Me too. Sleepy time. Off to the blankets for me. Carry on unrulies.

Peace

Gravatar good night, gulag.

Gravatar Speaking of cartoons (blunt segue) I'd like to have a reverse caption contest - I can't draw worth crap but came up with an idea recently. It's a picture of a moose in drag with Rudy Giulliani in attendance. The captions for the frames are:

Caption #1: (Palin to Giulliani - "No, no, no - I said field dress, not cross dress.")

Caption #2 (Thompson to Giulliani - "OK, let's get liquored up and start PARTYING!")

Caption #3 (Bush to Giulliani - "OK, what's going on here? Laura says that she's missing six tubes of lipstick - - again. I thought we'd gotten rid of Gannon.")

Caption #4 (McCain to the Moose: "All right then Sarah, I'll explain my policies one more time.")

Gravatar ZZZzzzz...

Gravatar Good night, Sad and gulag

Gravatar time for me to step out, too. good night, karol.

Gravatar As George Carlin put it, the cell-phone that makes pancakes. Waffles with the optional software upgrade.

SadButTrue | Homepage | 09.06.08 - 2:11 pm | #

You have no idea how ironic that is to me, in current circumstances...
Fucking cellphones...

But I remember the old SNL skit with Dan Akroyd and Gilda Radner (genius) Curtain, circa 1976.

Shimmer

Wife.....Gilda Radner
Husband.....Dan Aykroyd
Spokesman.....Chevy Chase

[ open on suburban kitchen, Wife and Husband arguing ]

Wife: New Shimmer is a floor wax!

Husband: No, new Shimmer is a dessert topping!

Wife: It's a floor wax!

Husband: It's a dessert topping!

Wife: It's a floor wax, I'm telling you!

Husband: It's a dessert topping, you cow!

Spokesman: [ enters quickly ] Hey, hey, hey, calm down, you two. New Shimmer is both a floor wax and a dessert topping! Here, I'll spray some on your mop.. [ sprays Shimmer onto mop ] ..and some on your butterscotch pudding. [ sprays Shimmer onto pudding ]

[ Husband eats while Wife mops ]

continues...

Gravatar Husband: Mmmmm, tastes terrific!

Wife: And just look at that shine! But will it last?

Spokesman: Hey, outlasts every other leading floor wax, 2 to 1. It's durable, and it's scuff-resistant.

Husband: And it's delicious!

Spokesman: Sure is! Perks up anything from an ice cream sundae to a pumpkin pie!

Wife: Made from an exclusive non-yellowing formula.

Husband: I haven't even touched my pudding and I'm ready for more!

Wife: But what about black heel marks?

Spokesman: Dirt, grime, even black heel marks, wipe clean with a damp mop.

[ Husband accidentally sprays Shimmer onto the floor ]

Husband: Oh, sorry, honey, I'll clean that up!

Wife: Oh, no problem, sweetheart, not with new Shimmer!

[ Spokesman laughs continuously as he approaches the camera ]

Spokesman: New Shimmer, for the greatest shine you ever tasted!

[ fade ]

Why the fuck aren't these old SNL videos on YouTube, or the internets, a series of tubes.

Fucking GE, who owns NBC.

Gravatar Damn, can't sleep.

Okay, back to the topic, here's a question for Sarah Palin: Governor, are you still beating your children?

Gravatar Good morning, world!

Thot for the day:
The Nazis built their agenda on hate and said so.
The Republicans build their agenda on hate and deny it.

Think about it . . .

Gravatar McCandy's lover, AKA, her husband's former business partner, made an emergency appeal to the courts to have his divorce records sealed.

Word has it, he doesn't want the National Enquirer -- who has the same five reporters working in Alaska who uncovered the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter affair, to get their hands on the papers that show his ex-wife named Sarah Palin in the divorce as the reason her marriage unraveled.

Also, Hillary Clinton showed her true colors this weekend and refused to attack Palin. Nevermind that Palin named her as her hero and espouses a radical, rightwing orthodoxy that is 180 degree opposite of Hillary. Despite her fancy speech in Denver, it's fairly obvious that Hillary is gunning for Obama to lose.

All the better for her to run again in 2012.

Gravatar Good Morning

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Grandpa Munster is a traitor.
32 movies, Thrity, fucking, two movies against America, and he glossed this over with 4 words at the RNC? "And they broke me"
We need to put some sunshine on those movies. Why is the Vietnamese government got these movies under lock and key? Why was Grandpa Munster the first in line to promote trade with Viet Nam?
I'm outraged today and extremely unruly. 32
Gravatar [-green libertarian | Homepage | 09.07.08 - 4:53 am-]
And how about Quarry, the cereal that's made from stone? It wasn't grown, it was mined. And you could bet that your family would get their RDA of minerals.
Gravatar [Grandpa Munster is a traitor.]
Don't forget that for five and a half years John McCain didn't have the chance to be a traitor.
Oh, wait, sorry, I guess he did and was.
Gravatar Christian blogger The Forerunner prays for “John McCain’s salvation and speedy death” to bring on a President Palin.
Gravatar Christopher | Homepage | 09.07.08 - 10:15 am
Sorry to dissapoint you, but the problem is in the Obama/Biden camp management. Josh Marshall says it this way and I agree:
"Do we need to remind Joe Biden he was hired to take the gloves off.
Late Update: Am I actually seeing more examples of Obama hitting Palin than Biden? WTF, not Obama's job.
Latter Update: Also, time to start calling McCain the liar that he is. On taxes principally. He's lying about taxes. Can't be said enough, has to start now. "
By the logic you stated, Joe Biden is showing his true colors by words, rather than Clinton not saying anything. ANd I thought the statement she made: "...To update my remarks from the other day, No Way. Now how. No McCain-Palin" was quite clear and prettty much what the Obama campaign wanted her to say, and then shut up and dissappear.
There needs to be constant hammer swinging against the zombie lies:
-Palin promises tax reform, left debt
-Palin wants books banned
-Palin wants Creationism taught in schools
-McCain's 7 houses
-McCain cheated on his first wife
-McCain's role in Keating 5/Savings and loan bailout
-McCain = Bush
-McCain = flip-flopper
-Republicans are running against their own record of the last 8 years.
Ad infinitum. There's so much political material out there just begging to be used, but lying fallow.
This race is Obama's to lose, and he can't win it if he stays all goody two shoes.
Gravatar I was just about to post that link from Josh Marshall.
As for Clinton, I think she's campaigning for (with?) Obama in Florida this week.
Gravatar Seattle Times doing a story on Palin's first year as mayor.
Any chance we can see stories of McCain's role as one of the Keating boys?
http:// seattletimes.nwsource.com...1_palin070.html
Gravatar Hmm. The police chief Palin fired along with the librarian she had to rehire has more international experience than she does.
After he was fired, Stambaugh spent a year in Bosnia, training police officers under the auspices of the United Nations. He's now retired.
Gravatar Coming up in my next post:
From Information Clearinghouse: When Protest is Terrorism
Eight Minnesota would-be protesters charged with TERRORISM!!
I don't mind if you read ahead a little.
Gravatar Joe, add to your outrage: The techniques used to "break" McCain have been described by Bush as merely harsh interrogation tactics.
Gravatar Not harsh NosyBear - 'enhanced.' Like the new and improved formula for a laundry detergent.
OMG! Maybe they were force-feeding the poor buggers New Coke.
Anyway, ^^^NEW THREAD^^^
Gravatar Unconventional Conventionist,
You're headed the right way so let me give you a push.
Read Frank Rich's piece in Pravda today. He pretty much deconstructs the bullshit nature of the braindead media and their fear of being branded "sexists."
If this is allowed to stand, the election is over and Obama and Biden might as well go home.
I have a link to the Frank piece on my blog.
Gravatar Christopher:
You've got your URL field filled in wrong. http://fromtheleftBLOG.wordpress.com/
It should just be http://fromtheleft.wordpress.com
The former takes you to an administration page from wordpress that you and only you can start a new post from.
It's OK, I'll fix it in Haloscan - but just this once.
Gravatar Thanks for the heads up.
I haven't posted here in a long time.
BTW, someone left this little pip on my post.
