Murmur, Instigate, CLAMOR!!

Gravatar I like Nick News so naturally the wingnuttosphere would find fault with it. Too much sanity and not nearly enough us against them I think.

Gravatar Margaret | Homepage | 11.12.07 - 12:33 pm

I like it too, Margaret. Plus it has Linda Ellerbee at its helm - enough for me.

Gravatar Cool article that I posted yesterday morning, in case you two missed it.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/ar...1/ MN3CT8RU1.DTL

Gravatar I hear it's also impossible to teleport a photon torpedo directly into American military bases and elementary schools.

Gravatar Oops, meant to post that in the previous thread, where Margaret linked to a post from Raw Story about how disappointed Fox personalities are that suitcase nukes are unlikely to exist.

Gravatar If suitcase bombs don't exist, then why does TSA ransack my luggage every single time I travel?

I thought those checked luggage inspections were RANDOM. I have a collection of love notes from TSA telling me that they inspected my bags-- it happens every single time I fly. (and I fly a lot).

Gravatar wordsmith hits another one out of the park!

do i have nick news ? can i make my kids watch it ? we have nick on two channels, east and west.

and word, warn your sister idahoans. larry craig isn't a danger to them, but the idaho legislature is up to NO good:
http://www.idahostatesman.com/ey...ory/ 205994.html

Gravatar LOL. Larry Craig. I was at this conference in Idaho last week. We had several Idahoan big wigs speaking. It was funny how they tried really hard to pretend that they have only one Senator!

Gravatar ellie! we travel too - the last two trips we were unscathed.

i pack so very carefully and organizedly, and tsa screws it up every time. sometimes we are getting 50% of our bags inspected.

Gravatar Jenn-- on two occasions, they have removed the lids and caps to all of my lotions, shampoo, etc., and not put them back on, nor put them back in the plastic bag that I carry that stuff in. When I've arrived at my destination, there is a soup of goop all over my clothes.

I think I'm on the suitacase nuke list.

Gravatar oh no ellie!

nick junior (blue's clues, dora & diego, etc.) is actually kind of progressive. teaching kids that they're important, how to think, stuff like that.

Gravatar Picking up where we left off yesterday morning. . .

Former Rep. John Sweeney was charged with aggravated DWI when he was pulled over by State Police early this morning on the Northway with a 23-year-old woman in his car, police told the Daily News.[..]

State Police had no comment when asked the identity of the passenger in Sweeney’s 2004 BMW sedan. Sweeney was also ticketed for driving erratically. A law enforcement source said Sweeney’s car had been swerving and the woman was seated partially on his lap when Trooper Phillip Dickson first spotted him.
http://www.crooksandliars.com/20...again/ #comments

Something tells me we were a little off when we speculated that this might have been a niece. . .

Gravatar tc, is that the republican personal snafu of the week ? ()

Gravatar Nice man swerved to avoid hitting a limping raccoon trying to cross the street, which is why his niece was in his lap.

Gravatar I stand corrected.

Gravatar Though it seems irresponsible of him not to have required her to wear a seatbelt. . .

Gravatar hey joe!
how's the house

my kitchen is still open to the garage. i am still managing dinner but the cooking is NOT fancy.

Gravatar Joe | 11.12.07 - 3:34 pm

OK!! Joe wins!!!!

I don't know what.....let me look around my apartment; I can find some trinket worth handing over for such an incredible 'headline.' And - tc has an excellent point about always wearing seatbelts. Perhaps the car was a classic back before seatbelts were IN cars.

Gravatar Jenn -
We're looking to write on that stupidity.

Gravatar i'm glad you're on top of that word.

the utah legislature causes me no end of pain and annoyance. although maybe next january they are opening the day AFTER mlk. maybe.

Gravatar Hey everybody! And Jenni, I've got some renovation stories of my own. I recently put a whirlpool bath in, which involved pretty much all of the trades - electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, even a bit of tiling (pending).

My whole plan of attack was based on the idea that I would do the work myself, at my own pace - which required that I put the new tub in a different location in the bathroom so I could continue to use the old one until the whirly was ready for use. This caused a lot of extra work and problems with the hookup complying with code, but not insurmountable.

Today I got serious about phase II -removing the old tub, and replacing the drywall, insulation and flooring around where it was. The whole area is infested with mould, mildew and dryrot - one of the reasons for wanting to do the work in the first place. This required sawing the tub in half, else there was no way to turn it and get it out of the room.

Suffice to say, that was a chore and a half with a reciprocal saw - and about as noisy as the deck of an aircraft carrier. I'm pooped, but the two halves of the tub are now out in the driveway, ready to be carted off. The bathroom is surreal, one corner of it shiny, clean and brand new, and the other looking like a bomb hit it.

Gravatar oh SBT!

a reciprocating saw is a handy destruction tool!

glad your paying attention to code.

my husband/remodeler is NOT :-(

Gravatar OMG - you shold have been there when we got the tub out of our basement.

Long story short, we hooked the tub to The Lesbian's jeep, and Mr. B literally rode the tub up out of the basement on skids to the back yard!

I'm looking for the pics (hard copy).

What a nightmare those days were....

Gravatar Jenn - As long as he had the sense to put jackposts under a temporary lintel before he cut a hole in the wall you should be all right. You don't want to let the ceiling sag and then build under it - I like things square, level and plumb. It makes later work a lot easier.

Gravatar A reciprocating saw in my hands evokes a Tim the Toolman moment of grunting like an ape. The damned things are heavy, powerful, and potentially dangerous.

Always wear eye protection.

Gravatar We had several discussions about the Idaho Legisture's BS on the northern idaho blog:

I make a rather snarky comment, here:

http://www.spokesmanreview.com/ b...9#2007119133239

and here:

"Divorce is just terrible," Rep. Dick Harwood, R-St. Maries, said. "It's one of Satan's best tools to kill America."

Just when you think an Idaho pol couldn't say anything even more stupid... there ya go.

The Idaho Legislature vs. Satan.
Good luck with that.

Gravatar no more home remodeling nightmares tonight! time for a glass of wine and monday night football. sick kid is sleeping and well kid is at science night with the dadster. yahoo!

Gravatar Green - Every time a Republican makes an idiotic statement like that, don't you wish the MSM would print a list of divorced Repukes along with the story?

Gravatar and husband remodeler pays attention to general safety most of the time.

his big recent injury was the wine glass breaking in his hand. healed but workout out the scar tissue now.

Gravatar OK, here's some -

i'm taking pix madly.

SadButTrue | Homepage | 11.12.07 - 7:30 pm | #

YES! In fact I be the rate of divorce is higher for repuke pols than for dems. We know that's true of the populations of the "blue states".

"Last month, the U.S. Senate was opened for the first time ever with a Hindu prayer. Although the event generated little outrage on Capitol Hill, Representative Bill Sali (R-Idaho) is one member of Congress who believes the prayer should have never been allowed.
"We have not only a Hindu prayer being offered in the Senate, we have a Muslim member of the House of Representatives now, Keith Ellison from Minnesota. Those are changes -- and they are not what was envisioned by the Founding Fathers," asserts Sali.
Sali says America was built on Christian principles that were derived from scripture. He also says the only way the United States has been allowed to exist in a world that is so hostile to Christian principles is through "the protective hand of God."

"You know, the Lord can cause the rain to fall on the just and the unjust alike," says the Idaho Republican.

According to Congressman Sali, the only way the U.S. can continue to survive is under that protective hand of God. He states when a Hindu prayer is offered, "that's a different god" and that it "creates problems for the longevity of this country."

I LOVE Idaho politics because it is SO MOCKABLE!

I wonder where their grapes were grown...

Are there NO wineries in Utah due to the Mormons?

Gravatar there's a winery down by arches NP i think. i am not sure that utah has the proper microclimate nor political climate.

the brewpubs do a rollicking business though. much to the legislatures' distress.

Gravatar and margaret: thanks to YOU for serving too!

Gravatar "Divorce is just terrible," Rep. Dick Harwood, R-St. Maries, said. "It's one of Satan's best tools to kill America."

Ithat's odd. I always thought it was the reciprocating saw that was satan's best tool. Or maybe a chainsaw.

Gravatar Well gee whiz, I just realized it is Veteran's Day! How did that happen?

Anyway, THANKS to all the vets out there.

Gravatar Is Satan on the no-fly list? Satan's picture should be posted at all the airports so that people know when to call security.

tireiron chef | 11.12.07 - 10:22 pm | #

Well there's only so much room on the no-fly list. If Satan were added, Ted Kennedy would have to come off it.

Gravatar Not necessarily. They could probably borrow a couple of Sharpies from FEMA and draw a little beard and moustache and some horns on Kennedy's picture.

Gravatar Hey, the Boss don't need no stinking airplane and if he did, he'd charter one!

oh LA, unrulies!

Gravatar a) Thank you, Vets.

b) Busy Weekend!

tireiron chef | Homepage | 11.13.07 - 7:45 am | #

lol! I misread that as 'your homepage has typos' so for ten minutes I've been scouring my blog looking for my glaring errors.

"link" homepage link.
doh!

btw, I just submitted a post to C&L about this nick video with a h/t back to "our angry friends". It'll probably be up on the site sometime later today.

I grabbed the video from the Nickelodeon site and mashed up the intro with the segment on Ava Lowery at the end to post at C&L. I'm also uploading the entire 20 min clip to google video. I'll post a link to that back here later if it ever finishes.

Gravatar It's early. But I'm out the door in a few minutes, once I tranfer my incriminating files to myself. . .

Gravatar Yeah, I have to transfer my incriminating files, too. Then I'm out the door.

It all begins again....

Gravatar JAB,

Gravatar justabill | Homepage | 11.13.07 - 8:33 am

What a guy!

Gravatar "Our Angry Friends..."

I like that.

heh heh.

Jumping on the road...

Gravatar Off topic, but remember that post I did about the local kid who had all those guns?

http://quakeragitator.wordpress....-home-cont-v-2/

It gets WORSE:

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/ f..._murderer_.html

Gravatar Just wait ... soon Nick News will be promoting the Gay Agenda and Falwell will return from the dead to throw Jesus bolts. I can't wait. Who wants to bring the popcorn?

Gravatar That's it - I'm agitating for Bill to get his own login at C&L - he's been 'guest blogger' there long enough, I think he's earned it. Besides, it doesn't hurt to have friends, angry or otherwise, at the big blogs.

Not that Blue Gal hasn't already done a fine job of raising our profile via the Open Threads - for which we are eternally grateful.

Gravatar SBT,

justabill is already doing his own posts at C&L... And exceptionally well, I might add.

Gravatar I KNOW I saw one!

Later...

Jump to the Left | Homepage | 11.13.07 - 3:03 pm | #

Why thank you Jump. and yes, I'm the FNG on the C&L team. I do have a login but all of our posts still go through the gatekeepers John and 'Nicole.' Mostly Nicole. She's pretty amazing all she does. I believe she's taking most of the day off as I haven't heard from her yet today. We already had a day worth of stuff ready to go from last night and John has been on top of any breaking stuff so I don't know when my post might get posted.

I don't think it's one that will fall through the cracks though. That Nick vid was pretty awesome in its own right, Ava's always been a good friend of the site and anything that drives the wingers nuts is C&L's bread and butter.

Gravatar justabill | Homepage | 11.13.07 - 3:55 pm

You're talking about the Nick video with this post here, correct? That video was awesome - truly - and awesome isn't a word I throw around. That's the kid my daughter was although not so ambitious. We've had discussions about stuff since she was small. She's 30 now with her own daughter.

Gravatar ooh, maybe i should check out c&l a bit more regularly. ha, after the big trip.

good and happy tuesday to all of you out there!

yesterday's coughing, laying around kid became today's sick kid. oh well, more time at home, less time for errands.

Wordsmith@Work! | Homepage | 11.13.07 - 4:03 pm | #

Yes, that's the video I'm talking about. I couldn't agree more. I've got a post in the works at C&L that should go up sometime soon enough, with a h/t back to you for pointing me to it. I tried to upload the entire clip to google video last night but it didn't want to ever finish uploading using their web-based-uploader so i'm resending it using the desktop program now. I also did a 6 min mashup for the post at C&L.

Gravatar Well, you seem to know your way around quite well for the FNG...

Hi, Jenn!
I'm ready for another 3-day!
woohoo!

Gravatar Well, after several tries google video doesn't want to let the full Nick News video get posted. It keeps saying the upload "failed" for whatever reason.

Here's a 6 min mashup excerpt from it similar to the one I made up for C&L.

Nice. She's really something. Yeah, that is the video that really got them frothing.

And she speaks freakin clearly. And I love the Margaret Meade quote. Perfect fit.

Gravatar I got this message on my blog this morning:

Thanks. I was getting a little tired of being called a traitor. And I was getting especially tired of these kids being called traitors.

Sincerely,

Linda Ellerbee

Gravatar Wordsmith: I left a link to your post at watergatesummer who linked to C&L (generally, not a specific post) and mentioned that Ellerbee dropped in to say thanks.

http://watergatesummer.blogspot.com/

Good job on this post.

Gravatar Thanks, mirth.

What a nice-looking blog that is. I love women's blogs!

Gravatar I hope you'll accept my humble apologies in return for not seeing any humor in that comment.

justabill | Homepage | 11.14.07 - 7:30 pm | #

Whew, Bill! You don't know how badly I felt.

UC just asked and I was telling him I forget how stark words appear on line (the page), and how well all of us here at the unruly place know each other. I mean, we don't go around calling each other names or the like. But we do mess with each other - with the what the fuck is this.

No, I'm truly sorry, Bill. It's not your fault nor your responsibility. I should've added a snark line or something to better indicate I was simply messing around.

There's also no need for you to offer an apology.

Trust me, I'll be more mindful in the future. I just don't want the others here to accept any consequences for my stupidity.

Gravatar bill,

Snark and wry humor can be hard to get across in print sometimes. As sad as it is when the intent of such communications gets confused, it is even worse when it doesn't get sorted out.

Nice to get the intent sorted out.

Thanks much for that.

Gravatar And I just have to ask, bill, when you gonna get to be a law??

Gravatar For what it's worth:

I don't know any of you very well (except that you are all f'n fab), so I didn't have much to judge Wordsmith's C&L comment. I laughed when I read it, thinking it was a delicious snark...and we all know the monitors there are veddy triggerhappy.

I stick my nose in to say this:

This has been a good day for Wordsmith. She wrote a great post, Ellerbee dropped in to thank her for it, and it got picked up on a big blog.

Let's let her have the pleasure of these accomplishments.

Peace

Gravatar I agree with you, mirth, as I so often do.

Gravatar Jump to the Left | Homepage | 11.14.07 - 7:46 pm

Thanks Bill for coming back to discuss.

One of the reasons those of us who are here do understand each other is because we've sorted thru all kinds of little snarky shit - plus we have smileys!

Gravatar Mirth -

Peace to you and that wonderful avatar.....and engima from Watergate Summer stopped by!

I love the internets.

Gravatar Smileys do help.
I miss the angry red faced guy though...

Gravatar I saw that, Wordsmith.
