Hell, the chimp admits that he's "playing for time" so the next president will have to deal with Iraq. He has even strongly implied that he wants to make it so the next president pretty much has to stay in Iraq. This man is without a doubt, the most loathsome, irresponsible, intellectually lazy, vapid, bigoted, weak minded, morally bankrupt, cartoon of a president ever created. bin Laden isn't his problem, the economy, dead Iraqis, hunger, children, homelessness, the uninsured et al are none of Bush's problem. As you said, he has always been free to make a mess and somebody smarter and more capable would come along and clean it up and I don't see this as any different, except for the fact that he can order the use of nukes. Only a fool would hand a loaded weapon to an idiot. That's why I say that if I had my way, everybody who voted for the chimp in 04 wouldn't ever be allowed to vote again. I can forgive 2000 (barely) but by 04 everybody knew what he was about or they didn't know and acted irresponsibly with their vote. Either way, they have demonstrated very eloquently that they can't be trusted to use good judgement when voting.

Apparently, it starts with "murmuring" when there are no comments, and when there are two then it's "rebels clamoring." You'd think something else would happen further down the line. . .

Yeah, its not Frist around here, it's INSTIGATOR!
Haloscan is set to display 'Murmuring' when there are no comments yet, then Instigator for the first comment and (#) Rebels Clamoring thereafter.
And Margaret I'm with you on the idea that those who voted for Bush in '04 should lose their franchise. Or maybe the vote should require an IQ test, and a sobriety test at the polling station. Bush is not just the worst. President. Ever. anymore in my opinion. He's the worst AMERICAN ever, comparable to the likes of Benedict Arnold, or the worst mass murderers. Jeffery Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Son of Sam? Mere pikers compared to Bush. Those who contributed to his reign have a terrible responsibility.
I disagree on the idea of 'the next president will have to deal with Iraq.' I don't think Bush vastly expanded executive powers in order to peacefully hand them over to a successor. I think there's a good chance he's going to create a 'crisis' much worse than 9/11 and suspend the elections. He's following the classic playbook of a tinpot dictator to the letter. As I have put in the banner,
"George Orwell wrote NIneteen Eighty-Four as a warning
George Bush reads it like it was a manual of operations."

Isn't it interesting what the wingers get upest about? "Phony soldiers" and 12 year old kids and lapel pins.... Yet, a couple of weeks ago, Senator Clinton called Cheney "Darth Vader", (she was wrong BTW, his name is "Darth Cheney") and nobody from the reichwing nuttosphere batted an eyelash. Today, former president Carter really laid in to Cheney and not a peep from the right wing war mongers. I mean, is that truth so self evident that even the wingnuts tacitly acknowledge that the man is pure evil?

Here's another one I hope you'll like, PB.
"HOPE has two children. The first is ANGER at the way things are. The second is COURAGE to DO SOMETHING about it." -- St. Augustine
Posts like this can help with the first child, anger. How can anyone NOT be angry at everything that's going on? The courage to act must come from within.

Yeah Dave, that bites. I saw the story on CNN just after I finished this post. Along with the erosion of the things that make society civilized (a fair court system, social justice, habeas, etc., etc... ... ) comes the erosion of the society itself. You can't live in a house with no roof and not expect to get rained on. Bu$hCo is tearing down the structure brick by brick.
Pretty hard to see the bit of god within someone who would do that. This reminds me of the Germantown incident last year. I know this kind of thing hits you particularly hard. I feel for you.

Anyone out there with the slightest doubt left that Bush is a war criminal? Watch this exchange that took place at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies The Johns Hopkins University Washington, D.C. on April 10, 2006
The student questioner (whom I have thus far been unable to identify) brings up an essential point, and comes to an obvious conclusion: "I would submit to you ... that this is one case where privatization is not a solution." This is not so much a slam dunk as it is a no-look behind-the-back buzzer-beater from center court that catches nothing but net.
One thing I missed when I first saw this - she had already managed to pose this question to SecDef Rumsfeld prior to positively hoisting Bush on it. Not too shabby for a first year student!
This entire exchange strongly supports the premise that Bush is a war criminal. Not having an answer to this question back then shows Bush to be reckless and incompetent. To still lack any answer now makes him an accomplice in a very large number of murder cases.
You might say that this is 'old news' but I find that it is often the item that has been tossed down the memory hole that adds perspective to current events.

OK, I found a transcript from that video I posted above, and some more background. Bush's first response to the question:
"..I don't mean to be dodging the question, although it's kind of convenient in this case.." heh heh
The facts:
The Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act doesn't apply to these employees, (because they were hired by the interior department to dodge the law that applies to the DOD) some of whom were notorious in the recent torture scandal. Thanks to an order by Paul Bremer, civilian employees were granted immunity to Iraqi law. This order was extended by Bremer's last act in office- until a new government is elected in January.
This post, from Dogspot and earlier links from the same site tell the sordid tale. The fact that Bush tried to turn this into a joke tells you exactly what a sick psychopathic personality we're dealing with.

I'm not the only one to pick up on the significance of this year and a half old story to this week's Blackwater news. HuffPo's Michael Shaw put This article up on Yahoo news yesterday.
If this isn't pitchfork and torches material, I don't know what is. But I've said that many times before, and the American public just goes back to watching [insert title of vapid TV program here].

Really the only two Mormons I know anything about are Mitt Romney and Utah Senator Orrin Hatch. Suffice to say I hate the latter even worse than Bush himself (though not quite as much as Cheney, who really is Satan's own love child.) So thus far the LDS church has not made a favorable impression. Not to mention their doctrine is utterly loony-toons.

I just read that Army captains and majors are being offered up to $35,000 immediate cash bonuses to continue in service. I knew there were giving tons to new recruits, but I didn't know that there were 18,000 elligible for this. Jesus. And they don't think the military is stretched? Talk about fiscal irresponsibility.
And now it looks like Blackwater will escape prosecution completely, since Iraqi investigations into the incident would be "considered suspect" and that trying the bastards in Iraqi courts would strip them of rights afforded them here. What rights? 100,000 mercenaries running around, with no fear of being held accountable for any attrocities.
I am going to just quit reading the news. My blood pressure must be through the roof, and that was only two stories!

We're all experiencing rage overload. We are watching the destruction of our government and way of life.
I stick with Thucydides, who said something to the effect that when a tyrant destroys our liberties, we reserve our greatest anger for those who could have helped, but did nothing.

Thucydides may have been one of the first, but by no means was he the last to have that thought.
"The penalty good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men." -- Plato
"The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis." -- Dante Alighieri
"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." -- Martin Luther King
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." -- Edmund Burke
"A society of sheep will in time beget a government of wolves." -- Bertrand de Juvenal
"When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." -- Edmund Burke
"When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I did not speak out;
I was not a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out." -- Pastor Martin Niemoller
"You can only protect your liberties in this world by protecting the other man's freedom." -- Clarence Darrow
"We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately." -- Benjamin Franklin
"A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on the installment plan." -- Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." -- Martin Luther King, Jr.
"There are risks and costs to action. But they are far less than the long range risks of comfortable inaction." -- John F. Kennedy
And the exact quote you mention:
"When one is deprived of ones liberty, one is right in blaming not so much the man who puts the shackles on as the one who had the power to prevent him, but did not use it." -- Thucydides
And I believe it was Jean Paul Sartre who said 'Il faut agir.' - One must ACT. All the philosophy in the world stands for nothing if it doesn't lead to real consequences in the real world. The evil-doers somehow never have any trouble putting boots on the ground.

Tyranny and the dumb shits who buy into the shit.
I got a response to something I wrote long ago about a guy who was on his fourth (and fucking final) tour, was killed a month before coming home. Someone wrote last night that this kid died to "keep me free" and I was wrong to say he died for nothing.
So I blasted the fucker. Go read. First off - I never said the kid died for nothing. I wouldn't say that. I said - go read.
I'm so fucking pissed.
AND then my daughter got rammed by an uninsured driver from fucking Oregon. Couldn't be from Idaho. Just learned today that the insurance we both carry (at full coverage) covering uninsured motorists pertains to MEDICAL, not fucking property damage. If my daughter hadn't swerved and slammed on the brakes, the truck would've sustained heavy damage BUT her insurance would have then covered it. However that was a head-on thing. Even at 35mph, who wants to do that?!? As it was, our baby didn't even anything had happened becuase the truck really barely moved. And no, it's not a big truck; it's a 4-runner.
Let's see - is there anything else?
