Gravatar [grin] BOO! No Cookies now! Watching Debate!

Gravatar Deliciously unruly - and surprisingly low in calories!

Gravatar Jump !

Great post

Gravatar I wish I could watch the debate...

Gravatar Edwards is getting LOUD!

Kucinich and Edwards are the most unruly in my mob-brain.

Gravatar Go John, Go

Gravatar Has the phrase "sHrillary" been used? If not, I CLAIM DIBS!

Gravatar JenniLoon - Richardson just spoke our "Governor" theory!

Last Sentaor elected was JFK., etc.

Gravatar i have a new left-handed theory too, UC, but obama's blown that out of the water lately . . .

Gravatar This isn't a debate....this is a coordinated attack on sHillary Clinton. I got the stream fifteen minutes ago and I haven't heard a question asked that didn't question one of her positions or policies. I'm not the biggest fan of hers but that's what's going on. Pumpkinhead is really on the attack.

Gravatar THE GREAT PUMPKIN!

Nicely done, jump.

OT, I am laughing my ass off about this story, another one bites the dust...

Newly released police investigative reports allege a state representative dressed up as a woman and engaged in an oral sex act at a Spokane Valley adult bookstore before later rendezvousing at a downtown hotel for another sexual encounter with a man now under investigation for extortion.

The suspect in the investigation, identified in police and court documents as 26-year-old Cody Michael Castagna, of Medical Lake, told detectives he was offered $1,000 to have unprotected sex with State Rep. Richard Curtis, a Republican from La Center, which is near Vancouver.

Castagna, a part-time porn model, has been featured in explicit photo shoots posted on some members-only gay Web sites.
...
An employee at the porn store told detectives Curtis has been in the business three times in the last month and is called “the cross-dresser” by employees. The same employee said she was told by Curtis he is gay and likes to dress in women’s underwear.

During questioning by Spokane Police detectives, Castagna said he saw a man later identified as Curtis in Hollywood Boutique early last Friday “wearing long red women’s stockings and black sequined lingerie.” Castagna later told detectives he saw a 40-year-old man with a cane performing oral sex on the legislator, according to the police reports.

Gravatar This isn't a presidential debate, this is a sHillary debate....

Gravatar "Your party is fond of talking about potential swiftboating...." WTF? This is as bad as a FAUX "News" spomsored debate would have beem

Gravatar Okay what are you guys thinking about the questioning so far?

Gravatar Peg - I heard Obama say "The way to respond to swiftboating is to: a), b) c)

That being said, she is quite a focal point. The MSNBC site actually said she was preparing to fend off the ganging-up.

Gravatar Peg - they're note engaging Dodd and Kucinich enough.

The questions? Stupid and game planned.
The answers? Mostly the same, except for a few honies!

Gravatar Very impressive...and creative too. Thanks Jump! You are a cheer, dear.

Gravatar It seems to me that they are going out of their way to single her out.

Gravatar Awesome. Jump, the original was one of the best posts ever, and this one lives up to the first. I was going to ask you to crosspost it to IST, but I see that you did.

I'm listening to the debate because I have no MSNBC. The candidates are getting frisky. They sound like buttholes, but that's fine. I hope they tear each other apart and leave Dodd and Kucinich standing!

Gravatar Wait... Is that the same post as last year? I'm a dork. Thought it was a sequel.

Gravatar Great Halloween post.

LMAO!

Flat!

I can't watch those dumb debates. If anything beyond the ordinary happens it'll be on the 'tubes the next day.

In other good news:

BERKELEY, Calif. — A United Methodist transgender minister said Tuesday he was "happily surprised" by a church council ruling allowing him to stay on the job.

The church's top court, which considered the issue during a recent session in San Francisco, stopped short of addressing whether a change of gender violates the denomination's rules.

Instead, the judicial council referred to church policy that says a clergyperson in good standing can't be terminated unless there's been administrative or judicial action.

I know.

WTF is up with THAT?

Hilarious.

Truth is always stranger than fiction.

Gravatar This clever post deserves a treat!

Gravatar Hey UC.

This debate is killing me. This is precisely why these primaries need to be moved back. These guys aren't even close to being ready for the general election. Some of them are closer than others, but I really wish the voters had more time to wake up.

Gravatar That's not a debate. it's a pose-down, like at a body building contest. And the moderators are the pits.

These people make me ill...

'Cept Dennis. Let him have the mike.

Gravatar No kidding; that's for both of youz, QD and SA.

Gravatar Wow! The Methodists allowed a transgendered preacher to keep a pastor's post? Man, that is surprising. I left the UMC in the 1970s after my old congregation drove a female asst. pastor right outta the pulpit.

Gravatar Kucinich Edwards Clinton Obama ....so far

Gravatar I loved the part where they were all chest thumping over who would be the toughest in dealing with Iran. Dennis was the only one who said that pre-emptive war is illegal, that PLANNING such a war is illegal.

I love him. Too bad he'll be gone by the NJ primary.

Gravatar Obama seems to get dimmer by the second.

Gravatar Speaking of dimmer, I have to go to bed. 5:00 am is right around the corner.

Happy All Hallow's Eve, y'all.

Gravatar Is Gravel really not there? Why? I like that old coot.

Gravatar He didn't have money (contributions) since he had no polling numbers... sad.

Gravatar I agree. Edwards, Dodd and Kucinich are doing okay, but the rest are just making sounds with their mouths. This could close the gap a bit between top and bottom, but no one is listening.

Gravatar my son's favorite picture is the big green pumpkin eating the little orange baby pumpkin.

he hopes we have a nice pumpkin patch next year.

Gravatar One thing my ear has noticed tho; Edwards is really doing his "Trial Lawyers CLosing Remarks" job on Hillary. In terms of a National Forensic League debate, he is wiping Hillary.

She however is wiping everybody that's not Dodd, Kucinich or Edwards.

Biden gets points from me though.

Just my $.02

Gravatar Porch Time! BRB...

Gravatar Night Dave. I give full marks to Clinton for staying composed under withering assault. I give Kucinich full marks for substance and I give Biden full marks for humor. I give Edwards awards for economic balance and Dodd on opposing Bush. We have a strong field. I wish they were all Progressive but the netroots has made a difference I think

Gravatar Good god, Russert just asked Kucinich about UFOs!

Gravatar Is there also a pumpkin somewhere pushing a peach pie off a table?

Gravatar Dodd's for Decriminalization!

Gravatar Wow. UFOs and HAloween questions. Real hard hitting crap there NBC.

Gravatar Edwards screwed the pooch on the decriminalization question. Even sHillary didn't raise her hand when asked who didn't agree with Dodd.

Gravatar Ta ta - must go hang with MR. B for a while now...

Gravatar And then he tried to put it back down and realized he was busted. Edwards takes a downturn in my book while everybody else gains a space

Gravatar Obama scored with the "life on Earth" comment. Glad to see so many candidates okay with weed decrim. Edwards won't make that mistake again. I think he just wasn't ready.

Gravatar Also, it seemed pretty clear that Edwards has never smoked dope.

Gravatar Night all. Off to bed.

Gravatar what was the decrim question - on drugs ?

Gravatar sweet dreams, agent.

i like margaret's book.

Gravatar It was on pot alone jenn. Edwards flubbed it hugely....and my eyes were focused dead on sHillary and her hands never twitched.

Gravatar well, i've never smoked pot (asthmatic) and i think i could answer the question intelligently. poor john e, he's had a learning curve on a few issues.

Gravatar Here's what the AP's reporting:

Curtis is married and has children, according to his legislative Web site. Elected to the state House of Representatives in 2004, he has voted against gay rights legislation.
...
In his only public comments, Curtis told The Columbian newspaper of Vancouver, Wash., that he did not solicit anyone for sex.

"I committed no crime," Curtis told the newspaper Monday. "I did not solicit sex. I was trying to help somebody out."

Curtis, a former firefighter, declared, "I am not gay."

In his initial statement to police, Curtis denied offering money for sex, and denied having sex at all. He told officers he believed he had been slipped "some type of drug" because he did not have a clear recollection of events.
...
State Republican leaders have declined comment on the case.
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/ lo..._Extortion.html

Gravatar I don't know jenn but I find it troubling on another level. Short of a bonafide miracle, his wife is going to die of cancer. This year, next year, even further down the road the sad truth is that she is going to die of cancer in the near future. Pot could help manage the pain both physical and emotional. He'd better wise up and I'm not trying to be mean or cold hearted but I was also disturbed by his answer on that level.

Gravatar For reasons I shall not discuss, I have poured a tall shot of tequila and will be drinking it shortly.

Gravatar Greetings jump.

And I know.

Gravatar Please read these sentences.

Our Founders established a government that honors and protects liberty of religious practice for persons of all faiths.

For more than two centuries, brave men and women have died to defend this freedom.

Consequently, highlighting one ceremonial day after another seems not only redundant but also patronizing to the practitioners of the faith traditions followed in our great, free Republic."

It's part of an explanation of a vote in the House by one of our reps.

Okay - it seems to me that first sentence and the third sentences are contradictory to each other.

Gravatar word, on what topic was the vote ?

i would like it if congress had no religious commentary, but as long as the senate has a chaplain, i am open to them having a variety of prayerful offerings.

Gravatar Jenn -

Crap.... without going and looking, it was recognizing some Hindu holiday or something.

Gravatar hey jump, my son loved the pumpkin story!

Gravatar Hi, Green,
It just keeps getting better....

I'm drinking now!

Gravatar oh the hindu prayer was the one that was so rudely interrupted earlier this summer.

Gravatar Here:

a resolution recognizing the Hindu festival of Diwali (which also recognized the religious diversity in the U.S., India and around the world)

Gravatar Ya know - some of these pumpkin pics are just a tad disconcerting......

.....uncomfortable - squirmy type uncomfortable.

Gravatar the house has an endless stream of resolutions for an endless variety of issues, holidays, etc. they could get some real work done if they banned those resolutions. it shows up in the roll call vote.

Gravatar oh son wanted an explanation about how some of the pumpkins were carved, too. he really really liked it.

Gravatar It seems the first sentence and the third sentences contradictory.

If sentence number 1 is true, then how it is redundant (?), let alone patronizing to recognize different faith traditions IF our founders (as claimed by this rep) ‘established a gov’t that honors and protects liberty of religious practice for persons of ALL FAITHS.’

Follow my thinking?

Gravatar My mom sent the pics to me, word. I decided to make a story out of them. I'm a lot more uncomfortable with that asshole, George Bush and his war criminal friends.

A crane fishtailed on the 405 this evening, hitting an overpass, bursting into flames, killing the driver.

War Protests: Why No Coverage?
10/30/07, by The Christian Science Monitor, by Jerry Lanson

Coordinated antiwar protests in at least 11 American cities this weekend raised anew an interesting question about the nature of news coverage: Are the media ignoring rallies against the Iraq war because of their low turnout or is the turnout dampened by the lack of news coverage?

I find it unsettling that I even have to consider the question. (MORE...)

Now, for some really disturbing news, has anyone heard of the bush/Calderon little Plan Mexico? Here's a hint:

According to the terms of the security aid package, there is virtually no difference between an international terrorist, a migrant farmworker, a political protestor, and a drug trafficker. The most unexpected and pernicious feature of Plan Mexico is that it targets all these groups indiscriminately. Lumping together all “transnational threats” and stripping them of any social or historical context creates a broad definition of security in the region and justifies a blanket regional security strategy.

Read all about it here: http://www.fpif.org/fpiftxt/4684

Gravatar ellie - the language in recent laws has been moving toward this. i am thinking of the 'providing any aid to the enemy' in the security pkg for lebanon.

Gravatar I thought of that, too, jenn. When I read this particular gem, it tells me that we're headed for further militarization of our border states. It makes it much more convenient to have martial law, and it gets people comfortable with the idea.

Well, it isn't going to get this unruly mob comfortable with any such idea. Thank Dog and all the creatures for the unrulies here.

Gravatar this also points out the suspicious conditions under which this right wing nutter Calderon, obviously a dear friend of bush, was "elected" in Mexico. The people there protested the outcome of that close election, and it makes me wonder just how Calderon really did come into office?

Gravatar I had some small kiddies visiting and showed them the pumpkin patch, and they exploded with laughter.

The $CDN (aka 'loonie) is actually above $1.05 US right now PB, up from 85˘ as recently as just last March. Put another way, the $US was worth $1.17˝ back then, and has fallen to 95˘ WRT the loonie, a loss of nearly 20% of its value in only eight months, or a rate of nearly 30% per annum.

I believe the criterion for declaring hyperinflation is only 10% loss of value per annum. Mind you the loss is smaller WRT the Euro and British pound, but if you use a weighted index based on the relative amount of trade in the respective currencies, you have to take into account that Canada is America's largest trading partner, doing more business than all of Europe combined (the UK is counted separately for some reason.) Don't buy the GOP lie that the economy is just fine.

Gravatar I don't buy anything GOP, Sad. I try to buy American, but alas, all I can find is cheap shit manufactured in China.

Gravatar And as appropriate a comment as I've seen Ellie. It's buying all that shit from China that's driving the erosion of the $US in the first place. Never mind the huge federal deficit Bu$hCo™ are running up running their illegal wars, the American public is running a trade deficit of $700,000,000,000 a year. Putting this more bluntly, it's like every man, woman and child in the country spent more than $2,000 than they earned last year. Your international credit card is maxed out, and for the first time since WWII the average American's personal savings is a negative number.

Sad, but true.

Gravatar Exactly, Sad. We've sold our souls to the Chinese. I don't know how we are going to remove ourselves from this mess. Average Joe and Jane Doe don't have a clue, and we keep digging, digging, digging.

My mother was no international affairs expert or economist, but she always, always said that this country would be brought down by China, either militarily or economically. How did she know this? (she died in 1995)

Gravatar Thanks for all the kind words, friends.

Enjoy the day.

Peace in the Pumpkin Patch!

Gravatar Jump posted a flash animated video on her Democracy Rocks site some time ago, which pointed out such disconcerting facts as, "the top 25% of Chinese people (in IQ) exceeds the entire population of the US in number." *

I looked for that a while ago and couldn't find it because I couldn't remember the post title. Maybe Jump can help, or even cross-post it here sometime. It's a real eye opener.

* - (as far as I can remember. May deviate in detail.)

Gravatar I'll look and will post, sbt. I remember it.

Gravatar Scarier than a goblin for hallowe'en, if you ask me Jump. The truth may not be stranger than fiction but it is scarier, simply because it's true. Didj you see the Bill Maher piece at HuffPo where he proposed dressing as a melting polar ice cap for Hallowe'en, because the idea is so scary?

Or how about this one?

Gravatar Sad.
But.
True.

Scary, indeed.

Gravatar Oh dear.

Gravatar I bought no candy for the trick or treaters and they can be happy with little bags of popcorn because am too cheap.

Gravatar I love the subtle little joke buried in the last two frames of that cartoon. I missed it the first time.

Gravatar Fred Thompson hates gays, loves torture.

Thompson, during his first public visit to the Bay Area, also spoke on the volatile issue of whether the use of waterboarding to gain information from terrorists amounted to torture. The former Tennessee senator didn't support the practice outright, instead, he said he would "do what I think is in the best interest of my country" regarding approving waterboarding as commander in chief. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/ar...T43AG.DTL& tsp=1

Gravatar That was me. Also, apparently Thompson doesn't know what the fawk he's talking about.

Thompson noted the United States does not support torture and abides by international law, then indicated he would not be opposed to waterboarding if national security was at stake.

Gravatar A la gauche!

Gravatar Found it, SBT. Will post tomorrow. Have a plan...

Gravatar chef!

Gravatar I got the joke.

Sad but true.

One year
the kids showed up before I had a chance to buy candy, so I gave them some almost rotten apples I found in the bottom of the fridge. They never came back. I guess they thought I was about the cheapest old hag on the block!

Subtle though, eh?

Just to be explicit for anyone who is wondering what I'm on about:

"Hmmmm.. that was a pretty good answer."

What's scarier - the voting machines or the fact that 'most people don't care about this stuff?'

Great cartoon. It makes you think.

Gravatar Via TPM.

Senate Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) announced Wednesday he would not support the nomination of Michael Mukasey for Attorney General because of Mukasey’s refusal to declare the "waterboarding" interrogation technique as torture.
...
The uproar has left the nomination—once considered to be a sure thing—in serious jeopardy. Durbin said he was unsure if Mukasey had enough votes to even pass out of the committee.

Gravatar Off to massacre a couple of pumpkins. Back for a few minutes this evening, my friends.

Gravatar Did I mention that they're innocent pumpkins, who have never harmed anyone, as far as we know?

Gravatar Later, chef.

Have some fun, eh?

Gravatar

Gravatar i voted today
i received my flu shot, and my son got his too.

i feel so virtuous, i will eat some chocolate

Gravatar Absolutely, positively the best analogy of the Bush dictatorship I've seen. This is an instant classic, Jump. Orwell with vegetables. Magnifique!
