Gravatar "...talking to editors at top moderate-to-conservative media."

I thought it was the librul meedia... not the 'moderate-to-conservative' media!!

Damn that libral media for calling that libral media a conservative media!

Gravatar Someone working for Scarborough doesn't surprise me in the least since he's always been sold as a rightie -- though by the promos, he seems more interested in grooms missing from cruise ships than political issues. I'm curious -- has anyone who lives in the D.C. area actually tried to look up the voter registrations for Matthews, Tim Russert and their ilk?

Gravatar "How to Reach Masses of Conservative Voters with Your Cause, Policy or Political Message."

I can boil it down: Pay $279, meet Joe and Chris' right hand man (pun intended), have Joe and Chris give you and your message favorable mention, uncritical interviews, and plenty of lip-service on their MSNBC shows.

Mail David.McCormick@nbcuni.com - he's the NBC News Ombsudsman.

Gravatar When he worked for Tweety on Harball, Mike Tirone was the executive producer in charge of guest booking.

What I'm hearing is, Tirone had the inside track of getting rightwingers to jump at the chance of sitting across the table from Matthews.

Gravatar What I'm hearing is, Tirone had the inside track of getting rightwingers to jump at the chance of sitting across the table from Matthews.

What's the goods on the people currently working behind the scenes on Matthews show? That would probably explain a lot about Matthews' recent monkey business.

Gravatar Hmmm, this is really scary. I think it's horrifying that employees of a network show parade their bias. This explains why people like Donna Brazil and DeeDee Myers are always on these shows.

Gravatar And does this guy donate to a political party as well. It would be even more interesting if he is taking the money from those speaking tours and redirecting it through personal donations to the republican party and Republican campaign.

Gravatar um, as much as i hate these clowns, forgive me if I miss the Antitrust law violation...

Gravatar STOP WATCHING HARDBALL!
This is how we win. Half of hardball watchers are Liberals watching to see if he finally comes around. He isn't. Mathews is so deep in the pockets of this administration that he is beyond reasonable expectation of salvation.
Don't forget...THE ASPENS ARE CONNECTED AT THE ROOT AND ALL TURN AT ONCE.
When this administration goes down, Mathews is revealed for the PAID SHRILL SHILL that he is and he no longer has a career pretending to be an actual journalist. Therefore, he will go down with the other aspens, connected in his corruption and deceit.
DON'T GIVE HARDBALL THE RATINGS. I know...it's like looking at a car-wreck, you just have to see it even though you expect it to be ugly. Resist this temptation, turn the channel and wait for Crooksandliars to show images of the car-wreck that is Chris Mathews.

Gravatar Sorry to take exception, but it is simply misleading in the extreme to say that "Chris Matthews has repeatedly compared Americans who are concerned about the war in Iraq to Osama bin Laden". That is in a class with the Bush administration's distortions and deceptive rhetoric about Iraq and 9/11 or Iraq and al Queda.

There are many honorable bases on which to bash Matthews, and I would agree with most of them. However, I have paid close attention to this particular matter and, as far as I can tell, Matthews opposed the Iraq war before it began and still thinks the war was a mistake. I have read your FAQ and the Outrageous Quotes, and I find nothing there to support this claim regarding "Americans who are concerned about the war in Iraq".

And while I applaud your bringing pressure to bear on Matthews and his producers and underwriters, I'm not sure I would want to see his show cancelled. I have many bones to pick with Trent Lott, but I would rather have him as Majority Leader than Frist, by a long shot. I've more careful now about what I wish for.

Other than this one point, please keep up the good struggle.

Gravatar make it stop -

Who is on Hardball more, DeeDee Myers or Patrick Buchanan?

The anwser is Patrick Buchanan.

Gravatar Disgusting. But I think the Sherman Act idea is a stretch and a little shrill.

Gravatar Has anyone considered a funds drive to pay for someone to sit in on the call and find out this guy's involvement?

Gravatar >Really, MSNBC serves "the Christian right" and "traditional business interests"?

Y'know, I thought I remembered something from the good book on this:
No man may be a servant to two masters: for he will have hate for the one and love for the other; or he will keep to the one and have no respect for the other. You may not be servants of God and of wealth. (Luke 16:13)

Gravatar I have stopped watching Hardball.

Verizon has not stopped supporting Hardball so I have ordered Vonage and I will be stopping my service with Verizon.

Similarly, I am going to write my Toyota Dealership informing them that because Toyota continues to support Hardball I will be taking my oil changes and other service work on my two toyotas to someone else. Furthermore, in the future I will not be buying from Toyota until they stop supporting Chris Matthew's program.

Gravatar Damn. Are they scared.

Gravatar FWIW, I work for the company that is putting this event on and this is just an audio conference for PR people to learn how to best pitch the conservative media. Simple as that. We put them on every week with topics running the gamut.

Gravatar John in DC,

I too refuse to put MSNBC on particularly Hardball. I acutally check the guide to see if there is anything of importance thus not giving MSNBC my direct viewing.

As for verizon...yes they are gone from this household.

And as for Toyota...not buying another one.

Gravatar I'm sorry, but this isn't news. A Conservative producer of a Conservative show hosted by a Conservative former Senator talking to people (for a rather inflated price) about getting the Conservative message out shouldn't surprise anyone. And it's certainly not anything to aim your sights at MSNBC for.

Chris Matthews using his platform for slanderous personal attacks? Yes. Conservative producer talking to Conservatives about manipulating the media to spread their message? No.

Gravatar I just got a cool idea. In light of the McCain debacle,(and believe me, there have been many.)we should write letters to the NAACP to protest MSNBC's conservative agenda and how it tends to alienate minorites, gays, women and anyone else who thinks different than Chrissy Matthews.

Let's do it and see what happens.

Gravatar I agree, someone could get on the conference call and record it.

Gravatar We need to hear more about Chris Matthews brother who is running as a Republican candidate. There is our target.

Gravatar Update:

Went to said site.

The name of the MSNBC producer has been scrubbed from the list of official presenters.

Curious, isn't it?

Gravatar Hey. Matthews crushed Torie Clark on WMD tonight. I hold you responsible. Keep up the good work.

Gravatar QuentinCompson:

Referring to the "FAQ" page, Matthews has at least twice compared Michael Moore (an American who opposed the war) to Osama bin Laden [1/19/06 & 1/20/06]. He also compared members of the left to bin Laden [1/20/06]. He suggested that Al Qaeda (an organization headed by bin Laden) was rooting for Democrats (Americans) [7/8/04]. From the "Outrageous Quotes" page, he's also suggested that Al Qaeda was trying to get people (Americans) to vote Democratic [7/18/04].

Those are just the quotes documented on this site, not an exhaustive archive of everything he's said on the subject over the past four years.

That's at least four unique occassions on which Matthews has compared people against the war and/or Democrats to bin Laden/Al Qaeda. That's "repeatedly" by most definitions and hardly "in a class" with Bush's distortions about Al Qaeda and Iraq as you claim.

Perhaps you could spare some thought about why he's made those comparisons.

Gravatar Mike Tirone no longer on list of presenters. Guess MSNBC is reading this site.

Gravatar I just signed up with Verizon a few weeks ago. Now I'll have to cancel them ~ I have already cancelled Cable, six weeks ago, I have no interest in what any of them have to say anymore.

Why would they remove his name from their site? What a bunch of cowardly traitors to this country they are.

When all this is over, and history writes about this dark period, the Media will have a special place in the annals of history, and it will not be a good one.

I read recently that the US Media ranks #44 on a list of countries that have free press. In 2002, I believe, it was #13. They are making steady progress towards becoming a total propaganda machine.

Cancel them ~ it's the only way. Half their pretty small audience are not Conservatives. I will pass this along to my email list ~

I'm glad I now longer pay for this ~

Gravatar now if you would only get so worked up about university professors who indoctrinate students in their classrooms and then work for various organizations helping them with their causes.

I seem to remember something about a Geo. Lakoff...teaches at a university, gives speeches before radical left groups.

I guess he should be boycotted.

Gravatar "The name of the MSNBC producer has been scrubbed from the list of official presenters." -- yeah, but will he still go?

I bet we could get $279 together in about 2 minutes to send someone under cover to this conference.

You'll have to be a wonder-bread white milquetoast guy with tape on his glasses. John?

Gravatar Why would anyone pay to know what makes a conservative growl, froth at the mouth and gnash teeth??? I thought everyone knew the words "Clinton", "abortion" and "gay" would guarantee a exorcist-required maniacal conservative turnout at the polls???

Gravatar I can always tell people who watch Bill O'Reilly, but never went to college. I remember college and no one ever indoctrinated me on politics. What a bunch of crap. This is one of those fake issues, by fake conservative journalists made up to incited the 75 % of America who don't go to college. They know most of America doesn't go to college (and is therefore easy to stir up as well) and they know they know our liberal politicians are so poor at calling them on their lies that they can get away with these fantasy scenerios, so they just make crap up knowing you'll believe them. I went to college. I worked at a college for 8 years afterwards and I never even cared about politics back then. I voted and that was that. No one was radicalized. They had other focuses. Research or whatever their career was in or going to be. Don't be a dupe.

Gravatar Sign it.

Gravatar You might want to tell people you have a petition on your homepage, Eric.

Gravatar It would be so disappointing for MSNBC if Dear Leader were unable to reward them with the telecom laws and tax breaks they want due to 60% of the country getting fed up and sweeping His Party out of office in November.

Just sayin'!

Gravatar I guess it takes a lot more than just drinking the Kool-Aid these days

Gravatar Um, would it be considered unacceptable for-profit shilling to point out that a switch to Working Assets would be your best move for landline or cellular service if you're going to dump Verizon?

I work there - it's a good place. We donate millions to progressive nonprofits, have quite significant Citizen Action letter and online activism programs, and a 100% rating from buy blue.

Gravatar darrelplant, I of course agree that Matthews insulted Michael Moore and members of the left and Democrats, no question. As I plainly said I read all that.

If it were said that "Chris Matthews has repeatedly compared some Americans who are concerned about the war in Iraq to Osama bin Laden", then I would be fine with that - but it loses some of its zing, doesn't it? And it actually means something different from what is written above, the thing to which I object. As written, it implies that Matthews has it in for Americans concerned about the war, and that is a deception and distortion, and disinformation just like the Iraq and 9/11 and WMD disinformation. Matthews was and is not only concerned about the war in Iraq, he did and does oppose that war as unnecessary and unwise. By your interpretation and this claim, he would be comparing himself to OBL. That's baloney.

This is a bogus assertion. It does not belong in a "What's this all about?" box front and center. It would be better to replace it with something that is true and which thereby does not commit the sin against which it preaches, that's all.

Gravatar I think we should all register for MSNBC's audio conference on February 16 so progressives can finally "reach masses of conservative voters" with our cause, policy, and political message. Indeed, the time has come to help humanity evolve.

Gravatar Anonymous | 02.09.06 - 3:32 pm

You can tell all of that by a comment. Amazing.

Maybe you can tell me what I had for breakfast or better yet, what numbers will come out in the PowerBall Saturday night.

Gravatar CONGRATULATIONS to Michelle Malkin who will received the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute's Woman of the Year Award.

NOT COLLEGE! BE AFRAID! IF YOU SEND THEM TO COLLEGE, LEFTIES WILL MAKE YOUR KIDS SMART AND DISCERNING! THEY WILL DEVELOP HORRIBLE CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS THAT MAKE THEM SEE THROUGH THE BULLSHIT PROPAGANDA! USE UP THEIR COLLEGE FUNDS WHILE YOU STILL CAN SAVE THEM FROM LEARNING TO THINK OR THEY WILL DISCOVER THEIR PARENTS ARE SPOONFED VEGGIES! BE AFRAID! YOUR KIDS MIGHT NOT WALK IN LOCKSTEP WITH YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR, GEORGE W. BUSH!

Gravatar MSNBC also broadcasts Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Two bad shows shouldn't necessarily mean you stop watching the whole network.

Now, I don't watch MSNBC for anything OTHER than Countdown, but I don't miss an episode of that...

Gravatar On the 8th, when this was cross-posted in an OT at dKos, I read it and sent a letter to David McCormick, Exec Producer, Broadcast Standards at NBC News. Excerpt from my letter to him:

==========
I am astounded to
hear that Mike Tirone, Senior Producer, MSNBC’s “Scarborough
Country” is participating in an audio conference on February 16
entitled "How to Reach Masses of Conservative Voters with Your
Cause, Policy or Political Message."

Does it strike you as a conflict of interest that an MSNBC
insider with access to Chris Matthews and Joe Scarborough is
presenting on a concall designed to spread the word of how
conservatives can get their political issues in front of the
public? As in Hardball and Scarborough Country?

Here is a link to the events website:
http://www.infocomgroup.net/politicspr/

Please comment on NBC's position on this obvious conflict of
interest.
==========

Late yesterday, 4 days after the event, I got a personal reply from Mr. McCormick. Excerpt of his response:

==========
To set the record straight, Mike Tirone is not participating in
the audio conference which you have referenced...Thank you for taking the time to write.
David McCormick
Executive Producer
Broadcast Standards
NBC News
==========

Someone noted upthread here that Mike Tirone's name was scrubbed on the 8th, the same day as this post. As another commented upthread, I hope he was actually removed, and not in name only. Here is my reply today to Mr. McCormick:

==========
Mr. McCormick-

Thanks for your personal reply. I appreciate your taking time out to address my concerns. I note that Mr. Tirone has been removed from the roster for this event, which is already in the past. He was listed at the time I wrote the note to you, which should also be in the setting straight of the record. Was he removed at the behest of NBC?

Does NBC, MSNBC or the governing corporate entity in this case have a policy regarding employees of the news and information divisions, whether in an official or non-official capacity, participating in events geared toward political advocacy? NBC owes its viewers and readers an explanation as to how this conflict of interest was actually resolved.
==========

Anyone interested in pushing the matter back for a more detailed explanation:
David.McCormick@nbcuni.com

Gravatar So, Verizon gone down in flames at the hands of this brutal boycott?

Truly, this is inspiring stuff. It takes a special level of denial to claim that a speechwriter for Jimmy Carter and aide to Tip O'Neill is actually a Republican shill.

BWA HA HA HA!

As a VZW employee, we won't miss the customers who don't pay their bills as it is, anyway.

-=Mike

Gravatar This was February 16th. What took us so long in finding out about this?

Gravatar Any of you all seen this brand new story on Rawstory.com?

http://rawstory.com/news/2006/ Re..._star_0309.html

Chris Matthews is getting huge speaking fees to speak to Conservative groups in his spare time. No democratic or progressive groups on the list.
.

Gravatar Chris Matthews is the best commentator on TV. You people must have been watching Fox and all their evil, biased, mistake-laden talkers (not deserving of "news commentator" status). Bill O'Reilly screws up and contradicts himself practically every time he's on the air. Do some studying and educate yourselves. Buy the way, how's Bush working for you? Are you in his 33% support group? Good. You are getting what you deserve.

Gravatar I will have to stop watching 'Morning Joe' if you can't stop Joe from being so rude to Miki-this morning when she was trying to talk about the climate he and the camera man were both impossible-this is why we should have a female president so maybe women would be treated with ' some ' respect

Gravatar Hi. I would also like to comment on Pearle Vision. I have slight problems with eyesight and decided to apply for help until it is too late. I went to Pearle Vision, a chain of eyeglasses stores, to buy eyeglasses for protection against computer. It is a great company. It is not only about the USA, the Pearle chain has about thousand of stores in Europe in such countries as the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Poland, Belgium and other. I learned about it from this great site www.pissedconsumer.com.
