Gravatar Congratulations, ChrissyJo... for finding out about aspartame... there is a support group, the Aspartame Victims Support Group on yahoo if you want some.

I don't think the headaches are from the caffeine withdrawal... that is the aspartame... on that list of 92 symptoms the FDA was forced to reveal, headache is No. 1.

When I drink soda I drink Whole Foods brand 365 Root Beer made with evaporated cane sugar.

Take a look at this private study done on aspartame... should kill the aspartame craving (the methanol in aspartame is highly addictive)

Gravatar Awesome for you! What made you decide? I am reading Skinny Bitch which has a fab chapter on sugar. I didn't drink coffee - which I used to have every morning - all week last week! I did a slow change: from black, to half soy milk/half coffee, to none.

Gravatar Wow thanks rightnote - I hadn't come across the fact that aspartame was addictive, too. That explains why the caffeinated tea didn't help. I've had headaches for the entire week!
Good Job Sally on giving up coffee. I keep hearing about the Skinny Bitch - I need to check that out some time.

Gravatar Wonderful choice Chrissy! Your body will thank you for it!

Did you read about the byproducts aspertame turns into inside of your body and the damage to that it induces not only on the liver and other organs but the brain too?
It may be tough for a few days, but stick with it. It is true aspertame should have never gone on the market and now the FDA knows pulling it out would cause a massive hysteria, not to mention law suits. If you notice what many products are doing is silently over the past years switching from aspertame to another sweetener called sucralose (not much better in my opinion)
Anyway - good job again and let your body detoxify from it...just think a few days of headaches and suffering but it is all worth it for the body!

Gravatar Well I have gone without the diet soda, amazingly. I didn't give up soda completely, I have had some regular sodas occassionally. The good news is that I don't feel dependent on soda anymore. When I did drink soda, I only drank about 1/4 of the can... I don't enjoy it as much as I did.

Gravatar Good for you Chrissy! It is a great step in the right direction and you are letting your body heal. The fact that you do not enjoy it as much anymore is also great news as I know there will come a day for you when you will think "soda? how did I ever drink that?"

Gravatar I sympathize with a policy for your food. And I support your site. If there is time, please come in my site. From Japan http://food-soybean.blogspot.com/

Gravatar Chrissy Jo,
Dark chocolate might help, or try green tea, or organic coffee. A little caffeine is not bad at all. One square of dark chocolate a day has great health benefits. See my article:

Gravatar Hello!

I'm really proud of you for kicking the soda habit! Soda is one of my guilty pleasures as well, so I can empathize with those trying to stop drinking it.

I'm going to try mixing natural sparkler water with fruit juice. That way I still get the "fizz" I like, but not the junk.

I came across your blog post while looking at my Blogrush wigit and seeing "Aspartame". I posted information for my readers about aspartame after my husband alerted me to a news radio talkshow he heard. I had no idea how serious the health risks may be to consumers who use Aspartame. There is a large controversy for both sides.

DEFINITELY a subject everyone should look into for themselves so they can be informed.

Here's to your success!! You CAN do it!!

From your friend over at Prospering With Fibromyalgia...

Gravatar Yes it is indeed very bad for our, but at the same time - this is very tasty.
