If your symptoms included a hot sensation especially on your ears, perhaps the item you had was fortified with vitamin B3 (niacin)which causes people sometimes to break out red and hot on their face, neck and hands and itch. Check the label of whatever you had that day.

I had a similar reaction in the past after taking a multivitamin (I don't take those anymore) and everyday I took them I was fine and then one day boom! same thing as you described. I concluded that there must have been an unequal(greater) dose of B3 added then normal.
