Gravatar Does anyone want to know why there are so many civilian deaths in Lebanon?

This is why:

“Hezbollah is everywhere, but they are very hard to find,” he said. “They work in small units or two or three men. They wear civilian clothes. You don’t see them. You just see their fire.”

If your army is in the midst of civilians, EXPECT this type of result.
.

Gravatar Long before Mossadegh, Diem or Ohlmert

G.W. Bushs evangelical fascism is neither an abberation of american policy,
nor is it new. Killing the natives in the name of God and the civilisation
for the sake of americas big business has a very long tradition - see the
Phillipines:

President McKinley famously wrote of the war of choice he started against
Spain over Cuba in 1898:

"The truth is, I didn't want the Philippines and when they came to us as a
gift from the gods, I did not know what to do with them . . . I am not ashamed
to tell you, gentlemen, that I went down on my knees and prayed Almighty God
for light and guidance . . . And one night late it came to me this way.."
(after describing reasons of honour, trade, and security): "there was nothing
left for us to do but to take them all, and to educate the Filipinos, and
uplift and civilize and Christianize them, and by God's grace do the very best
we could by them . . . And then I went to bed, and went to sleep and slept
soundly."

Then the bigots started to "uplift" the Philippines by massmurder, as they
did and do in Iraq - more than hundred years later:

American torture and scorched-earth campaigns

In 1908, Manuel Arellano Remondo, in a book entitled General Geography of
the Philippine Islands, wrote: "The population decreased due to the wars,
in the five-year period from 1895 to 1900, since, at the start of the first
insurrection, the population was estimated at 9,000,000, and at present
(190, the inhabitants of the Archipelago do not exceed 8,000,000 in number."

U.S. attacks into the countryside often included scorched earth campaigns
where entire villages were burned and destroyed, torture (water cure) and
the concentration of civilians into "protected zones" (concentration camps).
Many of the civilian casualties resulted from disease and famine. Reports
of the execution of U.S. soldiers taken prisoner by the Filipinos led to
savage reprisals by American forces. Many American officers and soldiers
called war a "nigger killing business".

The paralelles in the history of the US and Israel are baffling.
Both were founded by the deportation or extinction of the native population,
both consider themselves beeing chosen people and both never had any scruples
to rob, deport or murder - blessed by their juggernauts.
