The IDF, and the neo-cons for that matter, need to realize that tanks are an obsolete garaguantuan war machine. Hezbollah, and the Anbar Province fighters, not the soviet evil empire, will be credited for signing off these monstruous heaps of scrap metal into the history books. Against the right kind of people these machines are neither intimidating nor fearsome, nor useful, they're simply stupid. Between a determined freedom fighter, and a pile of such junk, I'd put my money on the fighter.
The actual number of Israeli tanks crippled by Hizbullah is much higher than the number mentioned here. I have seen numbers as high as 200 tanks. The higher number makes sense, because if it were only 20 tanks, the Israelis would have reached the Litani and beyond in a week or two. But because of the much higher losses, they barely advanced 4-5 miles in almost 5 weeks!
It demonstrates, that power comes from money.
No money - see the Palestinians - no modern weaponry - no possibility
to withstand israels tanks.
(Although one has to admit, that there are no real military options
for the palestinians in their ghettos.)
If Hezbollah had some state of the art surface-to-air missiles,
the situation would have become worse for the invaders.

I thought the 1 in 10 number was impressive considering that Israel has the 4th best military in the world and they consider Hezbo to be "rag tag."
They're best in fighting arab armies...
Besides that joke - they did not deploy more then two brigades
initially and tried to occupy a territory that was prepared as a
battle ground by hezbollah for years.
It would have been tough for every army on the world to overrun
hezbollah, unless that army accepted high losses - which was
politically impossible for Olmert.
Is was less a military defeat - hezbollah does not control a strip
of Israel - than a political defeat.
