There is another possibility in all of these "leaks." That possibility is to create deliberate confusion and to keep everyone guessing.
I personally doubt the story. Higher-ups in the military are not known for rebelling, until after they retire.
Company grade, field grade, and flag officers have all resigned as matters of conscience. Add to that congress, the press, and the population. Let's not forget coming elections.
They will resign, but not before talking to congress and the press. Frankly, I do believe this report. One more thing, they do rebel, usually not very public though. This will be an exception to that behavior.
