Nice photos chronicler. Your lighting is pretty good. I miss the tan too.
I haven't found the big ones yet by I hope my quest will be over by the time the sun sets tonight.
If you go to the baking aisle they have semi-sweet mini baking m & ms. I like to munch on those occassionally.

The giants are a bit crunchy if you ask me. The shards of crunchy candy coating do have a tendency to fly everywhere if you're biting one with your front teeth to get a look at the chocolate to peanut ratio.
I'm a melt in your mouth eater. I let them melt a bit then enjoy the chocolate with a bit of candy coating. The megas take a bit longer to melt away the coating. The choking hazard is a concern for me also.
I almost bought some minis the other day to check their size against the others, then decided against it becaue there really is no comparison. They are so mini that if the megas were made to the same ration we'd have a lot larger megas. Maybe, just maybe they'd look like the ones on the commercial.

Grommie, they are sort of the same size as regular peanut M&Ms. I wanted to see how much bigger megas were, so went looking for a bag, but the 7-11 was out of regular so I ended up with peanut megas... which didn't really feel any bigger than regular peanuts.

I miss the tan ones as well. After watching all of the commercials hyping up the new GIANT M&M's I was so excited at first thinking hmm these might be as big as candy bars and that seemed exciting. When I got the bag home, well, let's just say I wasn't impressed and the peanut ones are a little scary when you bite down on them. I was afraid I would either chip a tooth or they would shoot down my throat. So needless to say they are big enough to cause worry but to small to run in the streets screaming about. Once they started messing around with the colors I think the taste has changed. I always wonder why mess with something that "works".
That is all I have to say on this subject.

Don't they kind of look like the same size as regular peanut mm's? Gimme the regular old size. My favorite new color is white.

I went to the store to buy giant m&ms an was so unimpressed that I did not buy them. They are hardly any bigger and the colors are yucky.
I bought the Star Wars m&ms that came out a few months ago and was really grossed out by the horrid colors and did not even eat them. And this is coming from an incurable chockaholic who can't keep a morsel of chocolate in the house without eating it right away...

I miss the tan ones too! Why did they taste so much better? Muted m&m colors-bah! Bring back the orange! That said, I really liked the Megas. We had a bag at work and they were gone in about an hour. I guess it didn't help that everyone's boyfriend stopped by that day...

Wow! I didn't realize they were that much bigger. I've been looking for Mega M&Ms here in Hawaii, but I haven't found them.

I just saw an ad for these on tv last night. I was wondering how "giant" they were. Thanks for the pictures (worth 1000 words) and thanks Megan for the link.

Heh... well, I can't speak for the giant peanut M&Ms, but I know the giant chocolate M&Ms came in the muted color scheme initially because they were a Shrek II tie-in. So - lots of beige, brown, pale green, etc.

I have to admit, this tendancy on the mnms company to mess with the sizes of mnms kind of scares me. We had regular and then mini and then giant...what next? MnMs the size of cars? Houses? Or the opposite? What will we do if we have MnMs the size of nats? O the humanity!

I noticed that too Miriam. The coating seems to be a bit on the thick side.
Don't worry kitchenmage, they're advertising them on tv here now. They'll be available in a local grocery store up there soon!

The problem with the big m&ms is that when you bite them the larger shards of candy coating get stuck in your throat. This never happened to me with the regular sized ones.

This is so funny! My coworkers brought M&m's to work the other day, and they weren't the regular ones we're used to , but like your site describes they were the MEGA m&m's. And I must admit, minus the mutant colors (colors that reminded me of a rock garden), I LOVED the extra large ones. Wish I had some right now!!
