Those look fantastic! I bought a heart-shaped waffle iron a couple of years ago and the accompanying book from Williams-Sonoma. The best recipe was one for gingerbread waffles. MMMMM Perfect with vanilla ice cream.

I forgot to tell you the best part - when we were cleaning up, my sister wrote "YUM" with a pink marker in big letters on the printout of the recipe.

Heather, it's a lways surprising how dense they are, because of the waffle thing. I like that they can be made small. And, yes, the one pan, and waffle iron clean up is th ebest part!

They were good. The weird thing was the first bite, when I was expecting something light, like a waffle, because it *looked* like a waffle, but these are a lot denser. But once I thought of it as a brownie it was a tasty treat. We loved how simple (and relatively mess-free) they are to make. My sister dusted hers with powdered sugar and I ate mine plain. Next time we'll have to try other toppings. (The ice cream sandwich idea sounds great!) And next time we'll try adding some vanilla and maybe increase the cocoa powder like you suggest.

KM - thanks goodness no! They are wonderful for trapping all kinds of wonderful things! The great thing is that they are rich enough to only need to eat one. It makes them easy to portion control a sweet!

Gak! Can you gain weight through the Internet? I'm thinking that all those little butter/syrup trapping nooks and crannies did a nice job of holding little pockets of buttercream.
