Good luck with the ants! I get them in my kitchen every spring. I squash them as quickly as I can then clean everything with 409 so the next batch can't find trails from the previous set of invaders.

Windex. I'm not kidding. Not only is it good for making zits disappear (name that movie) but spray it on the ants trail and where you think they are coming from and they will disappear.
I found this idea on the 'net. Tried it. It worked in my kitchen. I don't know why.

Ants, you have my sympathy. They come in when it rains outside, they come in when a hot spell reduces their access to water.
Terro didn't work for me. nor borax. haven't tried cukes. I'm really in ant management mode, I've given up on eliminating them. make sure none of the faucet drip, so there's no water for them. they come into my house through wooden beams of the ceiling. I clean up their trails with "blue juice" which is like windex, and spray aerosol bug spray at the top of the wall where they've been entering the house. but i know in a week they'll be entering again between two different boards.
With two fruit trees in the back yard, i figure there will always be ants nesting out there.

I think all of the suggestions are great! I am trying the natural ones first, then move on to the chemicals. I'll let everyone know what happens!

I used to live in Panama, we had awful ants - also in Denver. If you find their home, you can pour boiling water down the hole - very environmentally safe, and effective! You might have to do it a couple of times, depending on the type of ant and how labyrinthine their home is. Terrible thing to come home to, I'm so sorry!

I know you're not going to believe this but, in our house we use the ends of cucumbers. Just slice off the end leave where you think the ants are. There is a mild toxin in cukes that does not affect humans but, is deadly to ants. They have enough time to get to home base and die so,you probably won't see any dead bugs about. Also ants eat their dead and so the cycle begins and ends. You know I so want that over the river cake mix in my house. Good Luck

combat traps right in the path. They will really build up (meaning you will see more and think "hey!") but the next day they will be gone. The traps have food in them that they enjoy and take back to the hill and "...a buh bye".
Once they have gone chalk powder around the perimeter of the house. The chalk will work, however if your ants come via the floor board in the middle of the house, use the traps.

Down here in the south we swear by terro. You can see it at their website www.terro.com. It is good stuff and cleared out my ant infestation that I had before I went on vacation. I came home to no ants. You do have to put it out and let the ants come at it. It takes a few days, and and you have to leave the ants alone, but it works. Good luck!!

You have my sympathies, with your ant problem. When I lived in Southern California we spent a lot of time and energy battling ant invasions. (Seems like everyone had a theory about why they came in: If it was hot, they were entering in search of water; if it was wet outside, they were coming in to avoid the rain...) I felt uncomfortable using toxins around our home because we had dogs and cats that would come in contact with it, so we tried a different approach. We poured red chili pepper (the ground kind) along their entrance route, and it deterred them. Apparently they have an aversion to the stuff. I hope this is helpful!
