For the record: cellulose is a polysaccharide, related to starches. Plastics are hydrocarbon polymers. Completely unrelated. Hydrogenated oils, while bad for you, are not plastics either, as they are not polymers.
Fructose is absorbed more slowly, and converted more slowly, than glucose or sucrose. It is NOT "quickly turned to fat," but in fact processed more SLOWLY.

What an awesome post! Good for you for not using that Cool Whip crap! Those people producing it should be sued for contributing to the nation's ill health since 1967! Outrageous!

You're welcome judfish. I think the problem with a lot of labeling issues is that the FDA is allowed to take money from lobbyists! It never helps to have the one entity that is supposed to protect the people taking money from the corporations who don't care. It is terrible.
Which brings me to the whole point of the article. We must, as individuals, be informed and education nabout the food we ingest. We cn no longer hope that "someone" is doing their job to protect us. They aren't and are earning fat dollars to look the other way. Unfortunately.
Thanks for stopping by!

Here is a copy of the Cuervo Margarita mix. It appears to have some of the same ingredients as Cool Whip.

I came across your interesting blog looking for an ingredient list for Cool Whip. I have celiac disease (wheat intolerance) and had a reaction from a meal I had on Cinco de Mayo. I had Cool Whip for dessert. One good thing about Cool Whip is that it doesn't appear to have any wheat in it. But here's something interesting. I think my reaction (a week's worth of fatigue, diarrhea and stomach cramps) was from the Jose Cuervo Margarita mix. It doesn't list wheat as an ingredient, but one of my celiac reference books says that one of the ingredients, CITRIC ACID, can be fermented from wheat. Funny, I always thought citric acid came from citrus fruits. Then I noticed the label said it had 0% juice. So here is another toxic (to me at least) product foisted on the unsuspecting public. I thought there was a law that they had to put a warning label on products that had the 8 food items that caused allergies. I'll include an image of the label if I can add it to this message. People need to be more aware. Thanks for the information you supplied.

a friend of mine made something called pistachio dip and brought it to work for us to try. i'm thinking pistachios - i love them. nuts are healthy. . . then i asked her what was in it and when she said cool whip i said no thanks i won't eat that. one of the other girls said 'why not?' and i said because of the ingredients. she looked at me like i was crazy. it's crazy that so many people don't read labels!

I LOVE YOUR BLOG! Did a search on "Cool Whip" b/c I was thinking about the nasty ingredients and I found you on accident...
Because of your post, I contacted Kraft Foods... I told them I used to LOVE Cool Whip... I'd freeze it and eat it right out of the container.
2 YEARS ago, I quit the WHIP. It's got all the stuff humans should avoid. Kraft needs to know that people actually 'read' labels.
THANKS For motivating me to action!
P.S. I'm also a SoCal girl.

That's pretty gross, and whipped cream IS better, but I could still eat a tub of it. :o)

Just wanted to mention one thing about the high fructose corn syrup. It turns on the body's mechanism that says, "You're hungry" so people eat more even though they are full. Aspartame does the same thing. Nasty stuff (along with Splenda.)

I can't stand cool whip, it has just always tasted plasticky to me. I guess that's what happens when you are raised on the good stuff!

That's what lactaid is for Melissa. I too am allergic to milk. I use lactaid in those instances. If I don't it's not pretty.

I agree; fresh whipped cream is better, but what would my sister, who is allergic to milk, do without cool whip? No banana cream pie, no chocolate cream pie... so sad.
