Why do police write parking tickets and such...aren't they wasting their time?

Yes, the "rule of law" is what runs this country, but I like the law of the people, not the "law" of Simon Leis.

A better question is why aren't the Democrats fielding a candidate? (There was no selection for a Democrat sheriff on this past ballot). Bottom line is that Leis stays in power & does anything he wants because he constantly runs unopposed.

I'm not supporting or bashing Leis here, just being objective. When I interviewed Leis last November he said "If you don't like a certain law go have the legisture change the law." He said his duty and his job is to enforce the laws in the books. Isn't that the job of the sheriff? For the rest of the interview, go to QueenCityForum.com

So, Steve, Si Leis believes that, say, those who were fighting to overturn the poll tax should have take it to their county commissions and state legislatures?
Yeah, that would have been really effective.
Principled civil disobedience has long played a role in the history of the US. I don't see what happened in SF, New Paltz, or Portland any differently.
Though I can guarantee you if Luken had done it, Leis and Allen (the Tweedledum and Tweedledumber of local fascist theocratic politics) would have hit him with much much harder charges than any of the other leaders around the nation.
God, I wish the Dems would grow a spine and run against these charlatans.

It would be nice if any of those morons would get the law right. I guess petitioning the court for an order such as a writ of mandamus isn't as exciting as locking someone up for doin' the butt sex.

The police don't write parking tickets- Parking Enforcement employees do. They work for the Department of Parking Facilities in the Division of Public Services.
Parking Facilities is self-funding; "revenue" from meters, lots, garages and fines pay for the operating expenses & capital improvements of the Department.
Thanks!
