From a circulation stampoint, the most likely to read this stuff by far is reading it via internet. I would focus this on the net too.

Focus sure, but a near blackout in print? Hell, it makes good copy to have "kids" hanging out having fun looking funky with big ass shades on.

No that would put a positive spin on the city which would effect their result as usual.
They would rather compare a unigov city-county like Lexington with over 200 sq miles of land to a land locked city of 78 sq miles like Cincinnati.

Calling Lexington a city is a joke. It is barely 3 blocks. Another week in Cincinnati, another day of the Enquirer spreading bias journalism to the metro. No wonder why people lack pride in this city. You would think the Editor of the Enquirer was in bed with that Cincy Nation rag.

From the Enquirer: (Spencer relied mainly on word of mouth and the Internet to promote the festival, and the national media also took notice. Rolling Stone, Spin, USA Today pop culture blog Pop Candy (http://blogs.usatoday.com/popcandy) and influential music criticism Web site Pitchfork (www.pitchforkmedia.com) all mentioned the festival).
Uhhh...CityBeat was the local print media sponsor and provided substantial event coverage. How convenient for the Enquirer to overlook this fact.

I think the Enquirer quote was refering to national press for the event. But even that is a little questionable -- the mentions from Rolling Stone, Spin and USA Today were all on those publications' Web sites, not print versions.
But I wouldn't be shocked if the Enquirer's minimal coverage was sour grapes over CityBeat sponsoring and not their little fake "AltWeekly." They would have had a hard time running photos of the performers, what with those giant CityBeat banners behind them all. Nick didn't seem to concerned about print coverage, concentrating on the online stuff, so them not getting a phone call or press release could also have something to do with their light press for the event.
Local TV news seeemd to completely ignore the festival (probably for that latter reason as well). I thought at least Channel 19 would say that's "what's hot."

If there was a shooting at Des., local t.v. would've been all over it.
Congrats to Nick for drawing 7,000 to the region!

We're not that petty, yo. (And just for the record, we don't call ourselves an "alt weekly.")

most writers are pretty lazy, they regurgitate press releases in the form of "news", so if he didn't do much by way of press releases, people shouldn't be surprised if he wasn't covered.

Kari,
Can you get Cin to please bring back the "How to Dress" guides for local concerts? Without one, I went to Desdemona in khakis and a pink Izod. I felt like such a tool! If I had Cin's guide, I would have known to wear my ironic t-shirt and retro Pumas.
Cin also didn't tell me which Desdemona band had the cutest members. I actually accidentally saw a band with a fat guy because of that oversight! Get it together!

You are right...you're not a fake alt weekly.
Your homogenized corporate "product" is a Gannett Young Reader Publication.
Thanks for the correction.

Very mature. Seems that being truly "alternative" apparently involves being a jerk.
You guys seem to live your life by some sort of self-righteous, black-and-white code to the point where you've lost your grip on reality and have become the a-holes you thought you were fighting against.
Nice work. I'm gonna go to Starbucks now just to spite you...

If being "alternative" involves telling it like it is and being true to oneself, then I'm "cool wit dat" - yo.
If that makes me a "jerk" in your eyes (words) then so be it. Those who know me feel quite the opposite. It's a free world man - so knock yourself out at Starbucks. Me - I'll continue to give my support to independent, locally owned businesses...the true backbone of any healthy community.
Later.
