Cincinnati Blog

Thanks for exposing their hypocricy. Justin has this self-righteous, man of the people, independent/Green act. But tonight he's having a fundraiser at the elitist Club Bang with Nick Lachey. This fundraiser, incidentally, is being promoted on the Beacon along with the plug for Jeffre's website. Jasan Happ and Justin Jeffre are both incredible jokes. The only two people on this planet who take them seriosuly are themselves.

Not to worry, folks. JJ will be lucky to land in Nick Spencer territory (17th) the eve of Nov. 6.

I wonder how the Beacon is incorporated to accept those contributions they're been soliciting for a server. Is there a chance Jason and Justin could be breaking the law? Maybe, maybe not. I think it's important to note that Justin Jeffre, and not Jason Haap, owns the domain cincinnatibeacon.com.

Ooooh, thank you for pulling back the curtain on this crap!! When this Justin jazz first started up, I kept watching. And voila! Up pops a bit of political campaign wrongdoing.

I don't particularly care who owns that Beacon domain, but I'll be watching for Justie's campaign paperwork & going over it with a fine-toothed comb. I suggest other concerned individuals do the same thing & if something isn't sitting right with you, don't hesitate to call it to the attention of the City's Election Commission. Don't bother going to Justie & his entourage. All you'll receive is a bunch of smoke & mirrors sh&t.

They have their own rules & we're supposed to honor & obey them. Never mind what's already on the books. Besides, Justie doesn't have a prayer of breaking the top 15 in this city council race. Must be nice to have a pocketful of money to fritter away on folly.

What are you talking about? I am free to write about what I want. Or, do you think Greg Harris needs to record a contribution because I ran his article about the police?

In the September Print Beacon, I have articles by David Crowley, Brian Garry, and Sam Malone. Are you suggesting that those articles are "campaign contributions"? That is absurd, and you know it.

I did stories about Joan Kaup's web page, Greg Harris' web page, and John Eby's web page when they came out. Do you think those are campaign contributions?

Anon 6:30 -- I do not need to be incorporated for people to give me money of their own free will. Have you ever received a birthday gift? Did you incorporate?

Wow. The guy chastising Kroger for taking too much from the little man is saying that political speech should be absolutely free from all financial scrutiny. I suppose Jason Haap supports completely unregulated funding, such as handing Hillary Clinton a check for $500,000 with "birthday, " written in the memo line, or the RNC getting $10,000,000 to smear every anti-war person in this country.

The visual image of the campaign logo also means more than the stories about others' campaign sites. I fully expect jason to play ignorant to that fact, however.

Gravatar Haap is JJ's butt-boy. This guy is so pathetic that he flip-flops on Portune, Brinkman, Coast & more. He can be easily bought for a few beers, and will turn a blind eye to his own utter hypocracy.

Gravatar Whatever. Cincysue was leaving comments about how she didn't know Justin's stance on anything. (She was also claiming that Nick Lachey is a George W. Bush supporting Republican.)

So, I have a story that can lead her to Justin's policies, and this morning I have quotes from Lachey about how he has never supported Republicans.

But context is something the Cincinnati Blog crowd cannot comprehend.

Gravatar Jason,

This is funny how you are so self obsessed to make this all about you. I called upon Justin(NOT YOU!) to do the right thing and consider your political ad for him as an in kind contribution.

If WLWT listed Justin's campaign logo on its website, I would consider it the same issue.

What is funnier is that THE CONTEXT of the post is what makes this even more of an in kind contribution. Your inclusion of the grahic implies (if you view it in context) that this is an endorsement post or what I like to call and advertisement. Justin is affiliated with the Beacon. That makes it more of a reason for him to do the right thing and consider this type of action an in kind contribution.

Gravatar The fact is, Cincinnatibeacon better be incorporated as a for-profit business. If it's not incorporated at all, or if it's incorporated as a 501 C3, then little Jason owes some taxes.

Gravatar Brian, I don't care if you addressed Justin. I wrote the piece of my own free will.

I am free to use whatever graphic I wish to accompany a story.

I had a picture of Greg Harris. Is that a contribution? Or is it only a contribution if I include a logo?

Are links contributions?

And how much is using a logo as a graphic to accompany a story allegedly worth?

If I make a post using everyone's logo, do they all need to report my contribution?

Actually, I'm going to do that now.

Gravatar Information or Advertisements

Not finished yet, but I'm out of time until later. I'll try to get everyone online.

Gravatar Jason,

Thanks for lying about what I wrote. "Recently, Brian Griffin from the Cincinnati Blog has said that because I wrote a story that used Justin Jeffre’s campaign logo, that he needs to include it as a contribution on his campaign disclosure form."

Not correct. You wrote a promotion for Justin and Justin alone. You included his logo which on it includes advocation for his campaign. You and he are affiliated with your Beacon.

Also, I never said he "needs" to consider your advertisement an in kind contribution, instead, I said he should.

What is most incredibly hilarious is that fact that your ego is such that you created your new ruse of a post where you try to make this into just posting a logo.

Sorry Jason, smoke and mirrors are not going to hide your original post.

Gravatar You're 100% correct on this Brian, and I'm glad you're pointing it out. Of course, the underlying ethical problem over at the Beacon is that two of their writers are running for office. A legit media organization (which it purports to be) would bend over backwards to demonstrate that there is distance. And the writers in question certainly would take leaves of absence until after the election cycle is over.

I wouldn't have a problem with a blogger running for office, but they are pretending to be more than bloggers.

Gravatar Treat this one like it was N8, ignore the Dunce; cease the discussion. Jeffre finishes 16-18, and Haap is still broke and foolish.

Gravatar Ok, so I mentioned this the other day and nobody picked up on it. Justin Jeffre owns the domain name cincinnatibeacon.com. If Jason Haap is being paid out of Jeffre's meager campaign coffers, and is an employee or a consultant of the campaign, Jeffre needs to report endorsements, or advertising on cincinnatibeacon.com not as in-kind campaign contributions, but rather as expenditures. The fact that Jeffre is posting and advertising on another website he owns makes cincinnatibeacon.com a de facto campaign website.

Jeffre had better make this right before the next filing deadline, or you can almost guarantee someone like Nate will turn around and file a lawsuit.

Gravatar I almost wish now I didn't bring this up. It would have been a lot funnier to point out that Jeffre owns cincinnatibeacon.com after Jason issues the beacon's endorsements.

Gravatar Great point. I'll be sure to make them The Dean's endorsements.

I'm about to leave, wearing a Justin Jeffre t-shirt. And I realized that I'll be a walking advertisement for him. So, too, are everyone walking around with candidate t-shirts on.

I think we should all clock the number of hours we spend in public wearing shirts, so that each campaign can be appropriately charged.

Gravatar Jason Haap is a goddamn moron.

It doesn't matter if you make them "the Dean's endorsements," "Jason's endorsements," or "Your Mom's" endorsements. Justin Jeffre owns the domain cincinnatibeacon.com.

Gravatar Jason,

If you are going to pretend to be a journalist and Justin is going to play politics, you both might do well to understand the ethics and rules involved with each.

Gravatar I don't wanna. So there.

Gravatar Let's see, does Justin Jeffree have a snowball's chance in hell of being elected anything? And, other than the 50 people that look at these blogs, does anyone care what Jason Haap or Brian Griffin have to say about anything -- Now Stewey Griffin, that's another matter.

Gravatar anytime a blogger expresses an opinion on something he needs to report the in-kind campaign contribution on behalf of who he's helping.
