I'm turning on the beacon over the park.
I think they may have boarded up the bat cave but I check it out

The Beacon is already turned on ... The Cincinnati Beacon.
And I already have a cape!
Once again, I arrive before everyone else. I'm so cutting edge!

Wow-I thought Cincinnati was safe? This guy sure has experienced a lot of crime. It seems the more time you spend downtown the higher chance you have of being a crime victim.

Failing statistics? Coming from the guy who seems convinced that every restaurant opening is proof that downtown is experiencing some sort of renaissance, that sure brings to mind the whole pot-kettle-black thing.
Personally, I was surprised to see Brian applaud Tarbell's actions. Why do you suddenly hate black people Brian? The poor guy was just asking for some money, right?
Sarcasm aside, either Tarbell is the unluckiest person in Cincinnati and a complete anamoly or there would seem to be some element of truth to what Anon said.

Tarbell cant get a cape because he would be banned from the Charter Party just like the Dean. Remember, no capes allowed!

"anamoly"? What would that be? Oh, an "anomaly". Check your spelling. Then I might take you seriously, troll.
And Anonymous, you might remember the difference between Pendleton and Downtown. If you even read the article, you would see that they are different neighborhoods. But, when you're a troll, it doesn't make any difference, does it?

Tarbell must be one of the most unlucky people alive. Here's a man who lives in a city as safe as Cincinnati, yet he keeps getting victimized by the few criminals in town.

If Mt. Washington is a burb, then why wasn't it listed in the CincyBusiness magazines recent rating of the top Burbs?
People really need to understand the difference in neighborhood vrs burb.

Brian,
Mt Washington is a neighborhood that is suburban in character. It's was built as a suburb of the city that happened to get incorporated into the city in the first decade of the 20th century.
What's interesting is that you complain about suburban mentality, yet you live in a place that is not all that different than Anderson Township.

Every neighborhood outside of the CBD and OTR were at one time burbs. Sorry to people out there, but Mt. Washington is not a suburban area. Is it right next door to one, sure. Is it conservative, sure. Is it cul de sac hell, no.

Dude, that's the burbs.

Yeah seriously, Mt. Washington and Mt. Lookout are as good as suburbs. I don't see how a resident of either can criticize those who live in an official suburb.

so there is probably some magical point in the past where communities developed before are "good" and ones after are "hell"..I wonder when the point is.
What about Deer Park, 'Downtown' Montgomery, Silverton...all platted in roughly the same era as Mt Washington? They are not in the City

"Yeah seriously, Mt. Washington and Mt. Lookout are as good as suburbs."
So, places like Mount Lookout and Mount Washington count as suburbs because they're "good" even though they're in the city geographically, while the parts of Cincinnati that have crime problems and major issues are defined as being part of the city? An interesting thought. Useless, but interesting.
I think that's what this all boils down to. The suburbanite commenters want to say that such and such is really a suburb because it is nice. That and we have another troll infestation. Don't feed the trolls, Brian.

There's a fine line here, to be sure. Mt Washington isn't full of ticky tack houses and cul de sac's, sure. But it's also got plenty of streets with no sidewalks, which isn't exactly urban.
I'm not disputng that it's a neighborhood of the city. But it's been harmed by auto oriented development. I think it's among the least urban neighborhoods in the city.
What if Wyoming was annexed tomorrow? Would you think of it as a suburb? What about Silverton or Finneytown?

Matt, the fact that you wrote it is what invalidates your post. Seriously, nothing you've ever written has helped a conversation.
I think there are two reasons that people dislike the suburbs. OK, three.
The first, which is ethical, is that Republican rule (including Clinton) has eviscerated federal funding of state and local economies (except, of course, for pork, which is now all that remains. Thanks, small government!) such that, in a municipal sense, it's every city for itself. So, paying city taxes is very important to the continued functioning of city services. City services are good to have, so as more people and corporations move to outside municipalities, the lower quality of life is in Cincinnati. Thus, there's some resentment here--whether or not it's justified is debatable, but not with trolls--much less fucktard trolls like Matt.
The second reason is aesthetic. The post-industrial (post-industrious?) style of architecture and urban planning, beginning in the '80s, looks like a-ha-ha-ha-hass. Here I'm referring to bix box architecture, which is really only useful at all in terms of branding and retail. Branding, obviously, has a tendency to eat your soul, and retail is an insufficient basis for a national economy in so far as it produces very little actual capital. Some of us, consciously or otherwise, recognise this coincidence, and as such feel existential nausea in the presence of large-scale development from that era (in which we still are). SO, on an aesthetic level we hate being in these areas, and there's nothing you can do to change it, because it's preconscious aesthetic notions of authenticity that's at play.
Thirdly, white people are really, really annoying. Sure, some of my best friends are white, but you never know when you approach a random white guy whether or not he might be Bob Buford.

My point wan't to criticize Brian for living in Mt. Washington - I think it is a great place.
Awhile back he tried to school me on what "urban" is and so on like he does. I've lived in several urban hoods all over Cincy...Walnut Hills, Pendleton, Northside, you get the pic.
My urban experience is much different that your speculation on the urban experience.
PS: Luke, your posts are always too long to read, but the last paragraph caught my eye. What's with the racist garbage? All races can be annoying at any given moment.
