Cincinnati Blog

Ahh so you must of past by me. I was on the square with my family with our camping chairs watching Ralph Macchio kick some Cobra Kai butt. It was our second time at Movie on the Square night. Goodtimes...

Here is the schedule for up and coming Movie on the Square nights:

July 14: “Ice Age” and “Jurassic Park”

July 21: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”

July 28: “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Planes Trains and Automobiles”

August 4: “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Star Wars”

August 11: “Shrek” and “The Princess Bride”

August 18: “Men in Black” and “Remember the Titans”

August 25: “Nacho Libre” and “Dodgeball”

September 1: “Finding Nemo” and “Jaws”

Gravatar As an enthusiastic patron of downtown I can't help but notice how much good press the move back downtown is creating by these establishments this past year and most notably the last few months. We can only hope that the residential side is received as well when it comes along and the current rentals/condos, etc. are not forgotten along the way. I feel there is a very positive tone being set that is key for future investment by business and citezens. Now if we could get BG to take down the link that so contrastingly states 'riots not included' at the top of this very encouraging blogspace, it's starting to kill my buzz from all of this energy for downtown.

Gravatar In my never ending desire to bring doom and gloom to the internet, I must point out that more than 2/3 of this improvement is places where you can stuff junk into your mouth.
None of these places have more than a few high paying jobs - the vast majority being low paying and frequently part time jobs that may or may not provide benefits.

Gravatar Wouldn't it be cool if Movie on the Square night featured movies made in Cincinnati? Dare to dream.

Gravatar Just watch out for your 15 year old neighbor shooting his dope dealeer...

Gravatar Anon,

Seriously, have you ever been in Downtown Cincinnati? Again, I mean ever? You really have no clue what you are talking about.

Gravatar That movie thing sounds cool I'll have to try it.

Gravatar Now if we could only get Susan of 3CDC who sells the beer during movie night to carry Christian Moerlein or Sam Adams. Money talks so they carry Bud products.

Beers are $3
Sodas are $2.50
Popcorn is $2
Candy is $1
Blow Pops are $.50

Gravatar Eep I agree but it might be hard to play Rain Man on the square. Charlie Babbitt drops the f-bomb a lot.

Gravatar They should show "Airborne" EVERY Friday... Free beers if you wear your Rollerblades!

Gravatar AIRBORNE!!!!

Gravatar Anon,

You miss the irony of Griff's post. Downtown is such a small area of Cincy and as such not really representative of the surrounding areas. No 15yr olds don't shoot others downtown, that largely happens 1.5 miles away.

What is ironic about it is how suburbanites visiting downtown from West Chester can be insulated able to ignore the idioditic animalistic behavior of those in nearby communities (Walnut Hills, Avondale, Bond Hill, need I go on?) and we can pretend like everything is alright while we spend $10 at potbelly getting a meal we could have for half the price at a mom n' pop store.

Take care of the crime and more than just downtown will evolve. Make criminals disappear for so long that only their families will remember them. Not just so long that they returned to the streets with enhanced "cred" for doing time.

Gravatar Love the movies, great to see downtown on the way back to being a destination.

FYI, my 'hood (Northside) is much more dangerous than that small area called "downtown." I go downtown to get away from my crime driven neighbors.

Many make the mistake of including OTR/Pendleton in "downtown."

Gravatar I really like Cadillac Ranch. Finally something has taken the place of Caddy's-Flannigans.

So what? If you are concerned about high paying jobs then start a company, open the office in downtown and offer large salaries. People who make money like to spend money in these kinds of developments. Companies concerned about rentention and recruiting love to have establishments near their offices.
Who are you Bad Luck Schelprock?
