I think this is a great initiative but there are many other agencies trying to help. The Freestore is very well-known but others don't have a such a high profile and are also struggling with resources to help with food and other emergency needs. See www.greatercincinnatifdn.org/safetynet for a list.

You can comment without leaving an email at my site. I just moderate, which means they are not instant.
Stop spreading lies! Sore losers!

It's utterly sad that with the need we have this year, political ideologies have to compete for who can give the most. What the hell will that prove?
Screw the stupid competition and just give already.Just link to their website or drop it off in person.
That's what I did.
I think this battle of the blogs is an embarrassment. I know the intentions are good, but I think it comes off looking VERY petty.

Marcella...
This really isn't about political ideology. I think it was raised for the first time by Alex T., but his point was just to remind the people that read his blog (usually conservatives) that conservatives have a good track record for charitable contribution.
I think the only point of ANY of the bloggers who have posted is to raise money. There's no prize for first place; the whole "bragging rights" thing is just an incentive for bloggers to keep the issue on the front burner.
If it wasn't clear enough, my post about being the "underdog" was tongue-in-cheek. I don't care who "wins"--I'm just trying to come up with any reason for a reader to decide to hit the Freestore link and give some money. Heck, if someone was willing to donate enough money, I'd do a dance on Fountain Square.
So I understand your point. But really, I think everyone's heart is in the right spot here. Yes, if you're a regular reader of one of the blogs, you're going to get tired of reading about this every few days or so. But lots of people only look in once a week or so, and don't scroll too far down, so I wanted to keep posting on this.

Maybe I wasn't clear.
It may not be about ideology here on this blog, but check out the crackpots on the Enquirer page. They are turning into right and left and who's more charitable.
It's disgusting to me.
Many in our community are in dire straights right now and people are griping about T what's his name, whining about Pepper, etc.
Meanwhile someone else is just trying to figure out how far they can get $20 to stretch on Thursday while some (not all) talk bragging rights. That part of it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I just hope that people keep in mind the bigger picture. (and the fact that this problem won't end on Thursday or 12/25).

Since I had so few bloggers take me up on my challenge, I am adding another $20 donation to the Cincinnati Blog if Donald dances on Fountain Square ($20 to the Beacon if Dean joins him). But there have to be witnesses and the dance has to last at least as long as it takes to get 10 strange looks from others.

Donald, please contact me as soon as possible to arrange for the dance. If Bearman throws in another $10, I say we slow dance together. And for another $20, we put a video of it on YouTube.

I'll throw in $20, too. I just want to be there when this dance happens... I mean, it sounds like it would be a sight to see.
In regards to the question of competition for the "Battle of the Blogs," the ultimate goal is to encourage people to make an investment in helping the community.
Like other financial campaigns that happen in Greater Cincinnati, if we have to incite a staged competition to get others to contribute, then so be it.
Regardless of the motivation for the donation, the real winners are the people who will benefit from the contributions to Freestore.
