Well - it would have to be a VERY big storm, even bigger, to kill the Wicked Witch of the East, because she didn't in fact die after all! I went to see "Wicked" at Christmas, and we found out that she was a: not all that wicked after all, and b: she didn't die but went underground so to speak!!!!! You see, you live and learn....

Sally - I've seen ads for that show. It sounds very interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing it next time I'm back in London (Along with all the other shows I want to see).
Tess - I've not seen any NS commercials for a while. The NS was really good when I first got it but it has not been so great the last few years... still, better then British Rail.
Im so glad you could see an upside to it Stu ;-$ We felt as though we were out at sea here and I actually felt quite seasick. My dog was absolutely terrified though..

The storm hit England yesterday as well.I was lucky enough to go down with a tummy bug so I had a good excuse not to go out. Glad you survived.Mind you our greenhouse didn't.

Very funny story.
It was kind of like that here a few days ago. It only took me two minutes to blow down the street to the grocery store (about 6 blocks, across a busy highway), but 10 minutes to walk back! It was all worth it though, because I bought cookies
we survived by spending the afternoon in a spa. driving back took about an hour, rather than the usual 15 minutes, no accidents and one tree on the ring which two police cars seemed to be looking after - by staring at it in their cars.
as we're borrowing marianne's diddy little car, it did wave around about but the damn winds DID NOT DAMAGE THOSE FARKING SATTELITE DISHES.
but they've ruined my spelling even further.

Dragonlady - The greenhouse must be in Croydon by now. I remember how that thing was in just a mild breeze.
Emiel - It was a nightmare. I got the metro part of the way then had to stand around for an hour waiting for a bus. The traffic was non-moving and then I had to wait another hour freezing at a bus station for another bus that would take me the rest of the way. A lot of people started walking. I was tempted by a near by hotel.
Ash - Anything is worth cookies.
Zoe - I get the feeling you really hate that SATTELITE DISH :p

Hi Stu, yes we were on board in the harbour. I wsa out for some of the day as I was working, but when I went home, it was pretty wild...even getting on board was a nerve wracking exercise in making sure I stayed on the dreaded gangplank...lol...the idea of walking the plank suddenly became very real 
I did infact get blown over earlier in the week, for i am but a small person. I have had to break into a jog a few times to avoid falling again.
I guess this just teaches me why it might be a good idea to watch the weather report every now and again. I had no idea about the storm and decided that thursday would be the perfect day to drive to Amsterdam and back in the morning to sort out some business at the consulate.
The drive there wasn't too bad but the return journey left me quite shaken after almost being blown over the guardrail on the highway a couple of times!
... and I swear I saw a cow blow past at one point! :D

Me and my better half was very lucky indeed. We flew off to Norway the day before the storm hit Holland and yes, you guessed it, the big european winter-storm came as snow there so ended up spending 4 days in winter wonder-land. Lucky us! But I do feel for you, being stuck in the country of wind-mills and flying cows during the worst storm since 1913... All the best!

I didn't have an umbrella!! Wind and rain do not equal umbrella in my way of thinking.
I've never understood the mysterious umbrella. I have owned one or two in my lifetime but they are objects that completely stupify me. I always open it facing the wrong way and invariably either get my eyes almost taken out or start lifting off the ground.
I can't hold onto an umbrella and ride my bicycle (a must when living in clog-land).
The frigging things constantly flap and steer a course for the nearest source of water (which is kind of defeating the point, isn't it?) and they drip all over everything when I finally reach my destination.
I'd rather just get soaked and towel myself off in said destinations hallway and then enjoy the added bonus of sympathy and attention and cups of coffee with digestive biccies which I get as a result of looking like a drowned cat
I know what you both mean. Although my issue with umbrella is forgetfulness. If it starts raining when I'm at home I've accidentally left my umbrella at the office. If it starts raining when I'm at the office I've accidentally left my umbrella at home.
Tell me about it. Okay, Belgium wasn't as bad as Holland, but still. On the birght side...SNOW by the end of the week!!!!!!!
